(there wasn't an option for that on Zoom from Chat,
but there is/ are on DysCord and other ways,
YouTube Live
and will see what Jitsi has...)
Overlaid the Chat and Transcript areas on the screen
was a problem, frequently observed with Zoom,
and workaround may be pop out a chat window
but minimize and/or move out of the way to ignore,
scan occasionally when speaking and
tech/ host others try to follow as best we can,
keeping meetings small, adjusts the amount of
drinking from a FireHose problems,
so the organization of the event makes a difference
Combined with the software tools chosen...
Small workshops, and bottom up,
what task the groups take on,
is there a recommendation from a small group
for the large group? Like committees,
we had the word Caucus thrown around
but too political for moi...
Anyways, I'm for asynchronous communication
instead of Meetings, Meetings, Meetings,
synchronous,
and didn't respond to the non Floss software option,
Time Zones are a mystery for me,
I've gotten used to GMT,
for some Cons,
but will need time to adjust to PDT
or Mexico times, etc...
Anyways, i had a bad reaction at first,
then reread the message, and then
decided to response this way,
then the time came out...
So for me, it's late night, and i'm
up odd hours, sleep differences,
etc...
So currently a deadline that day,
not sure what energies I'll have that
night, or other demands put upon me
from that deadline...
So here goes:
I'm guessing people may want to keep
EveryWhere or what I call AnyWhere
OnLine separate. I haven't been to
Mexico and likely can't go, especially in
June, so not sure what on site tech
support people are expecting,
or just send money....
As mentioned before a big fat pipe,
reliable high speed connections are
going to be required, (plus backups)
are we going to local hotel/ free wifi,
what data plans do smartphones have
can we buy data plan cards quickly
if overloaded the pip into the site?
How many connections are around?
near the windows or down in a garage/
bunker/ basement type where can't get outside
to get signal, how reliable is signal? etc
and how to do hybrid,
I've called it a Nexican standoff,

which some ways is stereotypical and some ways
accurate, but keeping one language+
on internet, and one on site,
and what all to try to translate,
similar if done in Europe, or
Canada with bilingual French, etc
One of the reasons i'm suggesting
smaller Jitsi rooms and off zoom,
besides open source and pay
what you can/ nonprofit model,
some people have tried it,
those with really good connections,
multiple devices might be able to
monitor/ watch a Zoom and a Jitsi
on the same device/ internet connection
and some reliability issues, a hybrid
platform makes sense, and you've
tried it with Zoom + DysCord
so that works for some, but maybe not all,
low end devices, smart phones,
low bandwidth connections slow
internet, overloaded people on site
all connecting to the WiFi if the
projector doesn't work, want
a connection to a translation
say a French person goes to
Mexico and tries to get in somewhere
and only Spanish and English
and their English is better than
Spanish and can follow online,
leave the one site in person and
go back to hotel/ b&b, warm showers/
host lodging because the facility
chosen has bandwidth issues?a
and how far away are those?
hour(s) in the heat or next door
hotel conference area to public wifi?
I guess all i've got to compare with
locally is YouthBikeSummit in 2017?
in South Arlington , VA the other year,
but that wasn't online, some recording
of sessions, and that like WoodStock1969+
may be the saving grace(s) of online,
the recordings of sessions, and translations
could be worked afterwards instead
of expecting all of them in real time...
I'm not multilingual and some may say
my Englush not so good, either, so,
my 0.02 Cents/ Pesos/Frankcs, idk
There may be a we owe others
for something feeling, and some
backlash of was in Mexico last time
so host rules and most people there
voted for it to be similar places,
other things move around, host
places bid in a public process,
i wasn't there for that,
but the split with Internet,
and redoing last year's cancelled
in person may be the good parts
of getting a recorded/ internet
and keeping that separate may still
be desirable, for many...
The camps of language may happen
as well, i'm only English but studied
French in high school, mostly GRAPHICS/diagrams
for translation like i tried with scoring
DysCord posts, i need reminders if i
bothered to try to read a flood of timed
reading after the fact, and keeping up
with all the text is a challenge for me,
as a dyslexic, disabled, etc...
Language fairness is also not flooding
people with text, graphics help,
the diagrams in DIY for example,
links to those, and how to save / harvest
and redistribute to people...
Some people posted their talk on YouTube,
and people i guess had that right,
as an attendee i'd not want to be on it,
zoom recording may do separate channels
and how much processing power one
has to post process all the Zoom or
other conferencing software videos,
i guess the people are finding out now,
trying to play catchup with EveryWhere Zoom,
making that easy and automated
will help later on, describing the system
and software(s) and tools, etc,
who did that and how may make volunteering
easier for next time...
(NB: All Chat seems to have been stripped out,
so how someone would be included that way?)
The survey results for this year i've not seen,
i did complete one, but not seen what others
said and how that's anonymized etc i'm not sure...
My concerns of open source, are strong,
almost religion like, so offering a tool
and only thing on the menu
i'll likely have to decline to participate,
which i did for the survey,
my time and sleep schedule
asynchronous is about the only option,
i may be awake for 2 hours
but too talkative write like this
after up all night, etc...
Daylight here, turning vampire,
and aborting before too long winded,
smartphones i'm brief but terse,
geeks may parse it better...
Punting for now, tried smart compose
and keyboard on web gMail, so will see
if the quality gets better...
