ARECOpens

Introduction/Definition/etc

Arlington Recovery and Empowerment Center opened it's doors in early May,

and having missed the opening celebration, Jerry stopped by one early afternoon

in mid to late May and talked with some people there, got some pictures

(given to the organizers, officers and staff, and perhaps best to be replaced with better

pictures, as while I've been published, I'm not a pro and they didn't turn out

as well as hoped...)

They have a brochure for the center, a small library of recovery publications,

and some initial activities including WRAP, iirc.  Your participation is requested

in welcoming Arlington to the regional and state drop in center community...

It is Jerry's opinion that visiting the center and cross fertilization

(the right word? pollenation?) will help the center grow into what we all want,

what it will and we can become...

Welcome AREC and congratuations, starting a center is a long and difficult

task (imagine trying to get a group of c/s/x, much less anyone else,

to agree upon anything, much less mission, policy and procedures, incorporation,

hiring, decor, etc), and kudos on opening your doors...

Clicking on above title link will give contact info like address, etc.

but I can't seem to find the hours quickly while catching up before going

to VOCALCon2009...

We are empowered to serve our recovery needs and the community at large.

Consumers who wish to learn the Recovery orientation

Our goal is to create a warm accessible, welcoming, safe place where we can share our knowledge and skills gained through lived experience.

Core beliefs:

  1. Recovery is a real and reachable goal for people labeled with mental illness.
  2. Peer-to-peer support is a vital part of the recovery process.  It inspires people to have hope and feel empowered while building a natural base of support in the community.
  3. Consumer/Survivor voices are essential to designing, developing and delivering responsive mental health care.
  4. As citizens of a democracy, we accept responsibility for our behavior and asset our right to be recognized for our skills, strengths and abilities.
  5. We encourage community integration by promoting hope, learning and personal empowerment.

We hope you  will join us.

We are empowered to serve.

The Arlington Recovery and Empowerment Center is a safe place where we share goals and knowledge, conquer fears, celebrate successes and become an active member of a self help program.  Through peer-to-peer support we help individuals with mental health challenges reach their personal goals and full potential.  Our mission is to promote full integration into the community.

Conclusion

Sharing the brochure, as I said I would,  the best way possible, to refer people to at VOCALCon2009.

Discussion

A place for feedback on the page presented:

  1. You might consider adding AREC to the national directory on http://www.cdsdirectory.org/database/cds.php and publiciizing more on VOCAL and other sites.
  2. Longer and evening/ weekend hours might help as well.
