Introduction/Definition/etc

Stand Up for Mental Health appeared at the newly rennovated TC Williams High School

('Remember the Titans' movie subject) and across the King Street from David O'Brien's

funeral home reception and a Radio$hack electronics addicts store...

To a mostly filled auditorium, with tables of Mental Health Month intormation outside

in the entranceway/ foyer, the Alexandria CSBExec Mike Gilmore?, David Granirer

and some videotaped and probably terrified live local people trained by him

presented a form of stand up comedy like his book

"The Happy Neurotic: How Fear and Angst Can Lead to Happiness and Success"

(ISBN 189462275-8 $15 warwickgp.com sold on site afterwards taking the last of my cash,

as well as Videos available, which I could not afford, even after $3.02 million out,

so poor personally...)

Remembering David O'Brien liked to open stuff up with a joke, it was perhaps fitting,

though a little painful to have humor at a site so close to the funeral home, in a site

also so rich with so much memories of civil rights, way back in the 60's?

and still continuing, it seems to this day, conflicts, but with Obama, maybe

reparations are on the way?  First Stimulus Funding, next catch up on the

historical debts???

Anyway, some politics and personal pain / grieving aside, the counselor Granirer

had the audience laughing and probably crying too,   Click on the title link to hear more...

Body

A few totally slanted and misrepresenting excerpts from the book,

"Several years ago I was walking down the street and tripped and broke my elbow.  Now you're probably thinking, "This guy can't even walk down the street without seriously injuring himself, and I'm supposed to take his advice on how to live my life?"

Then again, you're the one who was foolish enough to buy my book.  Wasn't the nerdy picture on the cover enough of a warning?  Besides you'll never get the money back now, so you may as well shut up and listen.  And here's a life lesson for you.   To write and market a book, you don't have to be smart.  You just have to have a big mouth and an insatiable need for attention."  pgs. 18-19

and pg 26,

"How many Jewish mothers does it take to change a light bulb?"

"Don't bother, I'll just sit here in the dark."

Sure, blame the mothers for all the failings of the kids... ;-/

Thoughts of 'Schizophrenogenic mothers' resurface their ugly little heads?

But also early in the book is an good humored but ruthless attack on the positive

pop feel good think positive psychology approach.

And then digresses into heavy inner child, how you grew up type stuff,

which I almost didn't make it through, and I'm still only in just the first couple

chapters...  But I've taken on the write 5 jokes per day assignment,  SO BE WARNED,

he's armed with bad jokes and ready to unleash himself, the seriously deranged

unfunny red haired (no relation to Carrot Top, and it's balding and grey now anyway)

fashionista nightmare, former homeless PITA, upon any unsuspecting

bystander, at bus stops like Forrest Gump, in ER waiting rooms, and whereever...

Except when he wants to be left alone, using the bathroom, trying to sleep,

terrified like Mavis (early in the book), etc..

Conclusion

On the Required Evaluation form, suggested that we bring him back, and if Stimulus money heads this way, maybe we sponsor a comedy training, as what better place than the homes of the worst crazy shooters in college history...

Oh, and use your own money instead...

Standup isn't addicting, is it? ;-/

BTW, Patch Adams just had a 64th Birthday,  seriously...   Now get back to work...

Nah, I'm going to run away from home instead...
