Introduction/Definition/etc

A bicycle cargo trailer

that you

(on yours, not mine,

as read I, as I'm not selling,

just documenting some stuff)

can detach and pull around manually

without a bike,

but some limitations at that,

and other stuff,

see below

(on AllenSportsCZ2CargoTrailer2019

Page) for more...

Body

Original Text

So checking a store,

and had need for

some carrying around more stuff,

as mostly i bicycle,

aka mobility aid, as disabled,

and sometimes it's more

than easily carried,

like getting groceries,

or an AldiCantFind2019

or books, etc...

I've tried others,

BOBYakCargoTrailer2019

is high end, and around $200+ normally,

this was $40,

last one on discount sale,

pre season, in a box,

and well, i bought it,

glad i did, at that price,

despite the Red color,

and some other issues...

Assembly

Assembly was outside the store,

luckily someone seemed to drop/

leave a nail clipper in my box,

at about $1 it's how you can open

ZipTies, and good to have,

might even be allowed in schools,

etc limited access places,

without being considered a weapon,

box cutter, knife, etc...

Doing that away from people

might be good, curious onlookers,

kids, doing the horns/whistles while

trying to learn, and multitasking

is a b****/b*****, etc...

Like the proverbial advanced class

when a kid (or anyone?)

is learning to ride, talking to them,

and be careful,

you they/the environment

must not be too distracting,

as down they may go,

but later on, old hat, as they say,

and chattering away while riding,

whether you/me/we are all listening

or not, mostly try to see if they are

having fun (yet) kinda like

are we there yet?,

but less annoying

as they are getting themselves there

pedaling/ helping out/ being active

exercising, not just face down

in a video game,

etc too...

Detaching/ UnCoupling

Detaching isn't too bad,

though a locking mechanism would help,

the arm to the bike

rotates/pivots at the point

of the cargo trailer part,

with a screw in knob

for putting it up more,

but for me, a little short/

small, telescoping might help

some, not sure how I'd extend it,

so short hauls between spaces,

only, anything longer distance

and would probably hit my heels,

and other issues...

Both bike and trailer

and detaching for in

and out of elevators,

with the bike/mobility aid

and it's generally too big,

for regular size elevators,

even the

PedalCarts2015

seems to fit, when it gets thru

door frames, and turning

is articulated on the

PedalCarts2015

Not sure, off the top of my head

with

PedalCartAlternatives2016

YMMV, etc...

The Road Kicks Up Debris

Sand, gravel, water, mud,

muck, etc

so the trailer which is rather low,

and not protected like a rain screen

on a kid trailer...

I don't have fenders

on the main beater bike,

which can add weight

besides mess..

Bungee Cord Mesh

The cargo bungee cord mesh is OK,

though a little difficult to fasten,

and it takes some practice loading...

I've started crosshatching

the bags in it, things will

shake rattle and roll loose,

if not closed securely,

clipping the handles of the bag

thru the mess clips may help,

and forward (start up),

backward (emergency stops?),

or side to side (turns) motions are

something to think ahead about...

Minimal Tongue Weight is Needed

Tongue weight is the downward force

on the connection to the host/ bigger

bike... Too low and rattling,

too high and detrimental (sp?) to the

towing bike/vehicle

(term generally used in car trailers)

Basically, riding empty is a problem,

it bounces more than I'd like...

Water (gallon to 5?)

or standard stuff to put in there,

say the water proof/ resistant

cargo box, might help,

afaict, I've not tried yet...

Riding Differently: Heavier, Wider, Longer, Etc

Pulling something behind,

especially wider than you are,

takes some practice,

so like fixie/single speed

you are changing your riding habits,

or need to,

so takes some getting used to,

or get hung up on something/one...

Needs a Flag

I'm not sure how it would mount,

as so low,  and some soft fabric type sides,

but letting others know it's

there, and the

Stepping

One of my first longer trips with it

and someone in a store back by the milk

isle stepped/ leaned/ fell part way down

into/on it,

While not looking where she was going,

and it's low,

i later hear from security there

that she does stuff like that,

maybe trying to meet people,

and/or harassment,

as a nasty staff person earlier in the day

basically asked

how to destroy my nice new trailer,

after someone else tried to

sell it out from under me,

just after i bought it,

and i think he was arrested,

his two gang like buddies,

who may have gotten him stoned/wasted/drunk,

vaped/ etc may have gotten away,

and punking his teacher,

whomever was on cell/smart phone,

while making false claims over

airwaves/ the FCC regulated wires,

makes it a federal charge,

even if he's a minor...

Similar attacks have happened,

if i bring a cart in,

so there is not a lot of protection

even in broad daylight,

and supposedly

secure/ safe/ government buildings

got gang like crowding

and exclusionary plus discriminatory

tactics...

Supplies

Not a lot of standardization on this stuff,

each company makes special stuff,

and you have to go back to the company,

usually at outrageous prices,

slow turn around, online and/or phone

only support/ purchasing...

Tires and tubes are odd sizes

like RideGenesisH1CommuterEBike2017

small wheel sizes are not that common

and maybe stroller size,

as about that, larger than most

MetaMobilityDevices2019

so will need to hunt those down,

and limit use until I have them...

The tube valve stems are angled too,

as smaller sizes and difficult to get into,

I have previously found an extender,

but would i remember it

when/if needed?

Removable Foot Needs Padding/ AntiScrape

While the handle contains a foam cover,

good for cold days I guess,

more comfortable,

the cargo trailer also contains

a removable foot

to keep it from going too low,

and when handle is up

but that can scrape / scratch?

any flooring that is not carpet, etc,

so might need to do something with that

like hack some thing up?

Duct tape might stick on other stuff,

toilet roll tube might get wet and soggy,

affecting other stuff around it,

when not in use,

other options probably exist,

but need to be looked into...

old used inner tube!

Modified Text

What's Missing?

easily found online

manual

parts

supplies

What Can Be Found?

people reselling?

I'm guessing eBay

CraigsList and other questionably

legal means of selling other people's

stuff/ i.e. accepting/ selling stolen property,

is a problem...

What Can Not Be Found?

Parts, supplies, information, support

How To Analyze?

Lenses

Commuter

Multimodal is a problem,

on and off,

say to take on a bus,

rail, elevators, etc

If just a little,

a backpack might be easier,

but that is high center of gravity,

not to mention shoulders, back, etc...

Noob

Riding differently, noob bikers,

and add complexity of dealing with this

too, may be too much for some people,

others just a complicating factor,

or mood, energy, weather, etc dependent

Say a new touring person

buys it on the way to or from a tour,

and not been doing riding with it,

basically practicing ahead of time,

like a loaded bike is entirely different

animal, afaict, your habits or riding

when tired, distracted, not paying attention,

etc are different...

Experienced

In general, an experienced person

could do just about anything,

including stairs, curbs, ramps, turns, etc

but the underneath clearance height

(say 26 inch towing bike

and 12-14 inch trailer wheels,

which get stuck in grates,

pot holes, lines and grooves

cut in pavement,

etc

Plus a bigger (double?) turning radius

may be a problem with this...

Besides jackknifing (sp?)

Think tractor trailers...

Assumptions

Two wheel trailers

like kid trailers

which have a second wheel,

adding redundancy,

say a flat, lose traction,

or are limited in not being pickup like

flat beds for objects/ stuff that is not

a small kid type shape and weight...

Weight limits of 70 pounds are typical

of trailers like this...

Weather conditions make a difference,

on wet, is different, visibility,

night time, etc...

A reflector may exist, already,

but do you have

an extra light for it?

What color? Red? Yellow?

Flashing?

What about side?

Reflectors on/in the trailer wheels?

A little bit of flapping that a flag

does may be an auditory warning/

heads up too?

But also may annoy dogs, who generally

have different (higher) pitch range

than humans...

The trailer's box is/was a good test,

the box this came in

was difficult

to get back, by bike...

Theoretically,

without folding up the box,

more, origami like?

and not being able to return

once the original packaging is modified/

damaged

or store it in a box,

is a problem, imnsho...

It looked a little like an advertising type thing,

but was not,

mostly width and

up was the only option,

mesh and against the back wheel,

other issues existed starting out

in first ride(s)/use, besides a difficult

urban type predatory environment...

Time Limits

Maybe a discontinued model

as not seen on their website,

for manuals, parts, etc...

Some small trailer parts

seen online,

were appearing similar,

but without dimensions and specs

even that is questionable...

Book(Let?) Data

ISBN None?

Paper Un Bound

8 1/2 x 11 type notebook paper size sheets

fold over, iirc...

CopyRight ?

None seen...

4? Pages

No index

Links

AllenSportsUSA.com

?

The support email address

might be good to document here,

even for my reference...

and keeping the receipt

for any warranty claims...

AllenRacks.com

(maybe what all they are more known for?)

Product Not found,

but searching

Allen Sports CZ2 bike trailer

hits lots of sellers/

resellers like AmazonVille2018 ...

Typical needle in a haystack

type problems with the internet...

Conclusion

Summary of experience or similar

Glad I have it,

like some other trailers

it folds down/

comes apart,

and doesn't take up

too much space,

though not a lot of capacity either...

The BOB

(use link, once created)

BOBYakCargoTrailer2019

has a wet sack/ dry bag

and flag, etc,

i guess much of the extra cost,

besides metal instead of plastic,

alloy/ steel, spoked wheels,

vs plastic solid,

iirc

and other design issues...

A kid  trailer may be an option

for some people,

but the shape of what you normally

want to carry

may make a difference,

say extra large toilet paper (24 pack?)

or paper towel (18+) packages,

and boxes bigger than small grocery bags,

would be a problem, imnsho...

The weight involved,

packing and distributing the weight,

say part in panniers and a trailer

for what may be a weeks worth

of groceries,

maybe difficult,

depending on size of person,

bike, and trailer...

Hills too, and width you need to

fit thru, loaded, and unloaded,

coupled and uncoupled...

A cargo trailer, flatish, but wheels

up over the platform,

limit the available cargo width,

unlike a flatbed

completely over top the wheels,

instead of on the sides limit/ rub/ hit...

Weight limitations and you would

need to guestimate

probably leave the liquids,

and some other stuff behind,

like don't buy drinks: sodas, water,

etc...

Make more frequent trips/stops,

say twice a week

shopping instead of

once a week, or month...

Laundry, say you were using

this trailer to carry laundry

to a coin operated laundromats,

ala

LaundroMats2017

would limit how many,

and bedding like sleeping bags,

folded over, smaller and/or compressed,

pillows, big stuffed animals,

etc...

A plastic storage box may be a good idea

for debris flying up, rain, etc...

The Aldi $10 one, i probably should

have tried to see if it would fit,

width wise,

but didn't have the money,

time, crowds, etc...

Some people carry a milk crate

on top of their back rack,

doing the box carry along

all the time

may be like that,

but wind resistance is an issue,

afaict, and milk crates,

wind/ water/ etc go thru,

are structural, exoskeleton like,

bounding a thing, but still need

plastic/ reusable bags, etc.

to keep stuff / water/ debris,

etc out,

a back rack, some have a sold part

that keep a water stream

(usually fairly dirty)

from going up your back,

others are not, like my touring rack,

goes down to the wheel thru,

but double decker height(s)

and can see the tread,

so looking for a hole, stone, etc,

is possible from the top,

instead of leaning over for the side,

needing a stand, etc...

But a plastic bag or something is required

every time it rains, so it stays there

bottom layer and as a spare...

YMMV...

Discussion

A place for feedback on the page presented

What do you use to carry stuff around in?

Besides a car/bus/ozone depletion units?

Shopping cart, luggage cart,

back pack(s),

duffel/duffle (sp??) bag,

hand cart work for that?

What attachments work for you?

Off the skewer?

or a seat post mount like some kit

TrailaBikes?

What does that do to center of gravity?

adjustability (sp?)?

forces when pushing/ pedal assist, etc?
