Introduction/Definition/etc

By now most people I already know, have heard

I got a motorcycle, but not the gory details...

Body

So Father dies, leaves me a little, I buy a motorcycle, had one before,

and liked having one, but not big enough, get something quickly,

and start riding it, said I would take a safety class again when available

in the spring, mean time, drop the bike a couple of times, in the parking

lot with the new disc lock, forgot it was on there, Then bought a reminder

coil thingie, and another time in the gravel parking lot, on ice,

and once skidding to a quick stop on crossing paint strips,

even on the dry, it was slippery, and using too much front brake,

had just done a lot of stop and go, and well, the light changed,

so it was go, then it quickly wasn't,  Saddle bag on my ankle,

and well, call the ambulance, and get it x-rayed to be sure,

expensive and annoying, but not really hurt...

Take the safety class, a 3 wheel class, and learn about

Can Am Spyders (2 wheels up front, and one big one

in the back, some electronics to control 3 wheel drive,

like 4 wheel drive, and well, not really a motorcycle,

because you don't really lean, and get safety

recertified, as had done beginner and advanced class

years ago, and they timed out, for insurance purposes,

and refresher, though took the long version instead

of the quick one day, starting again from scratch,

even though had been riding, years ago and for months

by the time class started in spring/ summer.

Come home one weekend, and the motorcycle is down

in the parking lot.  Contact police, file an insurance claim,

have them visit and notice a bent frame in the back,

besides the scratches (paint equivalent/ cosmetic).

Insurance totals it (monetary value, depreciation)

but still rideable, according to the mechanic,

the wheel well area is a little off, but doesn't

effect handling, but DMV now wants the title

to put Salvage on it, and registration, so

like when the bike was being looked at,

in a 4 Wheel Penalty Box, what I called the

rental car, as 2 wheels were in the shop,

not 4 wheels, but renting a motorcycle doesn't

happen very much and when it does it's

> $100 / day for people touring mostly...

Except no 4 wheels rentals, back to two on the bicycle,

and now the warm season again.  Heat advisories,

got used to going out of town, and already spent

the insurance money, trust people said to spend down,

so I did, and well too good at it, get a letter upon

return from VOCALCon2011  plus a couple more

weeks in the shop for repairs on the clutch cable

which mysteriously broke (luckily when not in South West

Virginia, hundreds of miles away, but locally at

Stars, Stripes and Spokes, a local motorcycle event at

RFK when Rolling Thunder was in town,

No they don't have parts, would think so, but more

accessories, lights, leathers, helmets, gloves, trinkets,

and normal carnival fare: food, beer/ soda, ice cream,

fried dough?, ad nausium, and even a clutch plate booth,

but no cables, and while bicycling is good for me,

lots of endorphins and exercise, it's slow and painful

by comparison to a motorized escape pod...

So for those that are looking at transportation options,

most people think Motorcycles, and Bicycles are just

accessories/ toys compared to real transportation (read cars)

and not taken seriously.  Many commuters use them all year round,

some have 3 wheels/ side cars and stay upright

better in more slippery and get appropriate accessories/

foul weather gear for longer season riding,

I'm really just looking at 3 wheels for the extra stuff

I usually carry, the saddle bags don't hold much

by comparison, the bicycle with trailer holds much more,

but can't tear down the bike trailer for rail and bus /

much less commuter rail, so stuck biking

all of the distances with bicycle instead of multi modal

transportation...

Insurance doesn't now cover anything comprehensive

on the bike, after totaling / salvage and it's feeling like

I can't have nice things, the world is out to get me,

laughing all the way, the police didn't find who did it,

and well, most people hate me anyways,

but damaging / vandalizing stuff is illegal,

not to mention immoral.
