5xA or dub it, Straight As
or Prom/Graduation ceremony,

formally Autreat's Amazing Annual

Adulthood Acclamation

MC'ed by one of the BMOC
(Big Men On Campus)

while the Autreat.com website says

you won't see superstars, (

http://autreat.com/autreat.html#WORKSHOPS
"focus on celebrities")
there are several, or at least attempts at such,
probably just personality issues, some I find
repulsive, others innocuous and caring
perhaps that is why it bothers me,
like mainstream society with homelessness,
where homelessness it could happen to them,
but with Autism/ Aspergers you're basically
born that way, with possible modification,
behavioral interventions the professionals
and parents wish [/ demand / force ] upon you,

some including introducing [whip] worms, etc.

and other stuff (similar to insulin shock and

other basically inhumane tortures),
each time pseudoscience was mentioned
I heard it as suicide science, a pronunciation
or interpretation issue, I'm not sure,
but in the depression community, it is
basically the same thing...

FWIW, I'd seen assisted suicide on PBS
and not to be too depressing, but
someone terminal with ALS (Lou Gehrig's
disease) decided he wanted to control
the end game, knew he was terminal
and a place in Germany or such
headed by a lawyer makes it possible,
whereas the Autie and Aspie community
riling against Low Functioning and High
Functioning labels (most would consider HFA
the elite and no you're not one of them,
except in some social situations...)

The blind may lead the blind and
the one eye man may be king,
but the adaptations and community
among those at Autreat, watching
people talking on the way to and
from lecture, leaving my dorm room
window open to get some fresh air,
hearing comments like "a fly on the wall",
(note unattributed, but feeling left out/ excluded)

only occasionally participating myself,

many times remembering both grade and high school
cafeterias, likely where the trauma happens,

or recess, the red haired kid,
one of the only or few here,
people came up to interact with
me and while they knew they were <blink>loud</blink>,

didn't realize an entourage would follow them,

making it unmanageable for me,

[perhaps think of football offense metaphor

Piling On, after the person is tackled,

10 people jump on the pile and 2000 lbs

literally crushing/ killing the tackled player]
or someone else who wanted to see / try
the OLPC XO, but I wasn't connecting online
there requires an email approved and password,

just for a browser, like any other machine,

see it for what it is, the sexy or cute hardware,

packaging like any other machine, the OS and

interface different, even the challenge of
opening the [machine] box,

most go for the hinge,

thinking it's a tab or latch,
but [by analogy] first you open your ears,
enabling you to come out and interact,

input like the HandWave machine shown in the
MIT Media Lab [/Affective Computing]

(One Laptop Per Child  XO is a

spawned project from that,
but not mentioned, though in the background
in a slide or two), it seemed like
a sales presentation / experiment,

here is the project [stimulus]

what is your feedback? [response]

But my learning of the MIT Media Lab

is it's Lifelong Kindergarden
and a play room, called "The Cube",

where machines are available,

projects proposed and presented,

and people direct,

like self directed in the disability community,

you go to that location,
either in person or online and
interact as you wish, the [project using] aversion
sounds to desensitize you say to
say vacuums, really for me some
of the big shots / BMOC voices,

I sat through lecture, raised the Green card

which was go faster, and end on time,

like a lot of college and life experience,

just get it over with,

it's a requirement and you are there for their ego,
instead of what you want,
sometimes it's fun,

sometimes it's interesting,

many times it's not,

and see who you meet along the way,

the M.R.S., or M.R. degree,
or Doc, little Prof,

many of us started out as,

amazingly collecting information

and being a 'know it all'
on one of a few limited subjects
doesn't make you popular,

or at least me, I couldn't do the book learning,
and while I interact with others and
learn from them, the social barriers,
going to a college, remote and with it's
mores (social rules), seemingly rich and different,
my parents coming from a small town like this,

getting a degree, moving on for advanced degrees,

but ultimately coming back, my father in ashes,
this time a small baggie,
(I didn't want to ruin my sisters urn,
likely breaking it in transit),
he sat beside me along the drive,
though I didn't talk to him,

but would have liked to,

seeing how things have changed,

the interstates and bypasses,
effecting if a town gets traffic (read business),
or gives people the option to come
and interact with the locals,
much like the disabled, in wheel chairs,

and/or off on the side,
they are in the class and community too,

likely in small numbers,

but many may find, reading this,

or hearing from support group lists about it,
a place people consider home,
a mecca, if you will,

where they are like others,

want to hear lectures,
interact when they want,

play with books, gadgets,

arts and crafts
(I've never made a t shirt and

skipped the required CEU coursework

for my special and memorial interests ),
but if you will excuse me,
I've got to get some exercise
to deal with the social stuff,
bike in the early morning valley fog,
and hopefully come out the other side,
buy my merchandise ("the beginners kit" tm,
5 or so Autreat t shirts,

each edition unique, some odd,

and my custom ones,
when besides the support groups and
maybe back at Autreat,

would I wear them???
either way, I collect, think about,
and now wondering how to tweak
the printed ones (my Bike Film Festival t-shirt
started cracking, wonder if I can patch
that like a tire patch kit? 8-/ )
or design a template, transfer it,
beyond the stuff I finally got
making basic letters, instead
of the keyboard, cursif
more shop class letters,
and an aesthetic I still don't
really get...

Perhaps I was distracted by the teacher,

and here also the first time college students,
now almost young enough to be my kids,
we old people remember being that age

and probably why we don't fit on campus,

unless a prof, or a reunion, or Homecoming,
we've already lived through dorm beds,

bad institutional food, paying fees,

learning some budgeting

(well, this campus could use a

Debtor's Anonymous
as well as Adult Child Alanon meeting,

Alcoholics Anonymous,
while the first is not the only 12 step program,

the underground NA, was the only one I easily found,
Overeaters, is the big one,
many look like they could use it,

but I may only be the one behaviorally,

and somewhat out as a person who started
but did not complete the CSAC

(Certified Substance Abuse Counselor)

after a Bachelors combining
Computer Science and Clinical Psychology

in a individualized adult learning program,

requiring a capstone thesis project

pulling it all together, mine a computer
game written in Java (a new language
they weren't yet teaching in 1998)
in my school, nor Linux, which came out
in 1993, but I'd been doing Clinical
experiences, and as you might have felt,

I've gone on too long,
on my special interests,
while ignoring you,

the reader...
Which is what communication

is supposed to be about,

the other, not just the presenter/ speaker/ writer
spouting opinions and quick judgements
onto the unsuspecting and

largely unimpressed audiences...

But that, apparently,

is what friends do for each other...
