BioLogicReeCharge2012

Introduction/Definition/etc

Been looking for some way to power devices

like headlights, netbook, assistive tech/ GPS, etc,

as touring and commuting is longer than most

battery life, especially with heavy use,

long commutes and/ or remote touring

I eventually researched and found eWorks,

a $300+ solution, but never got it...

Near Winter Holidays, I found ThinkBioLogic.com

and eventually got a new local bike store in Falls Church

( BikeNetic.com ), to become a dealer of it,

after all the big bike shops (Performance, REI,

Revolution, ProShops, etc) didn't know what it was,

and wouldn't even special order it.

Body

Some difficulty getting it quickly, happened well after

the change of the season/ Day Light Savings Time,

and then one of the parts was the wrong type,

but they overnighted it after seemingly losing the order,

for weeks, then I self installed, and it isn't charging from the dynohub,

probably the wrong wire directions I stripped a

long wire (usually wires are to too short,

on the odd special dynohub connector plug,

this wire length too long, instructions are lacking,

I guess there are different varieties, the headlights company

I went back and forth with Customer Service wouldn't make it easy

said too many combinations, probably requiring professional installation

like Car Stereos, but long wires might be able to go to the trunk,

as it were, to hide the toys...),

Instructions don't list the case power button, AFAICT/IIRC

or I read it wrong, the normal iPhone power is up top,

this one on the bottom and not a button like thing

more like a wire outlet, it's in input selector

but that and the rubber type covered plugs USB

Micro and Mini, one input the other output,

and you can charge at home, the built in LiPo

Lithium Polymer battery plus really hard case is

reason enough not to have returned it initially,

but then the plug broke, so not sure it's worth the

$100 for the case, ~$25 for the conditioner to the dynohub,

and  ~$25 for the special reecharge bracket

plus tax and you need the dynohub wheel which most

don't have,  there is a case available at REI that is

BioLogic, but not the ReeCharge, so YMMV,

and it's all iPhone, just noticed they do a case

for Android, but it may not be dynohub nor

LiPo version yet...

I've got other plans, including solar,

but need to get the base stuff working,

being out and lost and out of power are bad combinations,

in many parts of town, suburbs and rurally on tour,

some adventure in those maps, but calling for help,

looking up accommodations, where to stop, eat,

use a bathroom, where was that country store?

Really rural and you don't even have cell towers,

even along the C&O Canal to Cumberland...

It gets dangerous, possibly annoying and lethal

to be fiddling with devices while driving and/or biking,

distracted driving laws haven't been applied much to

bikes, AFAIK as this stuff is not very popular, Yes,

but most pedestrians these days seem to have their eyes

and ears busy on everything but where they are going...

Part of why I though it was not found more in the States,

big companies are a target for liability on it,

small companies difficult to break in to the market

with all the very big telecom and electronics /

computer companies like Apple, Google, Motorola,

much less prolific Wireless Cell Companies,

wonder when Cricket will have a prepaid smart one?

Conclusion

Summary of experience or similar

Would be nice if it worked...

Probably some the installer, but will see...

Service and repair?

When will it be Ubiquitous?
