ColumbiaPikeBluesFestival2012

Introduction/Definition/etc

Recurring annually, last year's comments were

not found, maybe combined on another page?

Anyways, a quick placeholder for another year's

experience...

Body

At Columbia Pike nad Walter Reed Drive (down big hill

several blocks away a biker was killed on Mothers Day

the other year...)..

Comparing against the TinnerHillorgBluesFestival

which I liked, with Chuck Brown at the State Theatre

and TinnerHillBluesFestival2012 which I didn't like as

much in the park and heat, frustrated and still angered

by NoPlaceForBikesAtDMV2012  earlier that day...

Anyways, Columbia Pike Blues Festival was similar

this year as previously.  It's free on the hot asphalt

road, less bugs, ants and stuff, but more food vendors

than Tinner, so larger selection, though prices are

generally high, for those in my income bracket (read bad)

there were community based groups or health oriented

(read hospitals, etc) offering small waters for free,

having spent so much elsewhere, and previously,

I could not spend much, and didn't...

Concert was free, I arrived late after doing other things,

but with the mid day heat, probably better that way

for me...

Performer came out of the stage onto the audience

and walked/ played right next to me as I was fiddling

in my bags, had had camera out and was not prepared

so, missed all the close up shots...  Jimmy Hendrix,

Freebird, and other non blues but popular items are

played after some more esoteric (not to blues people,

but I'm a noob),the performer said he was practicing

while growing up, and can play just about anything,

he did it well, but too short a time, this festival

is short blocks of many artists, and I didn't see his

stuff for sale, like CDs and things, I'd bought many

a previous year...  The Lead had a group of people

on stage with him, and some interesting conversational

styles, and banter back and forth with the band...

Video and Stills

Captured a little in images and video, but not much at all,

not sure the policy, I see lots taking photos and video,

with big honking professional and expensive equipment,

and know it's well covered by mainstream press,

so why bother except for my unique views on things?

But my photos, and stuff may make it up here

eventually, so if you care, check back sometimes...

Conclusion

Summary of experience or similar

Good, better than Tinner this year, for me,

a free concert, and well, maybe the county

does One Thing right once a year for the

Columbia Pike area, my issues with the

trolley that will likely kill bikers

(of both motored and pedaling varieties),

and ArlBAC20120507 remain...
