Introduction/Definition/etc

 

So briefly,

made SomeThing(s) which are not easily

categorized and/or labelled

at least by me,

so putting it up,

plus some FreeWriting on other stuff

going on...

 

Body

 

So had some flour to use up,

been around for a while, not the last i have

just that packaging,

so finish that, of unknown amounts

say 300-500 g flour

and Masa, which is a staple for me,

and 200-350 g finish that up too,

so knownish amounts

but what next?

 

had eggs (donated is Medium),

and using 3-4 of those

to match the amount of flour/ masa combination

and where to go from there?

 

had 1% milk, getting old

but hadn't made ice cream/ milk in a while,

but low on supplies for that, special m* sugar

too, so rationing, and planning, not something i'm

used to doing with food,

have it, do something with it,

and vegetables and stuff gets thrown out,

older carrots, darkish outside, but peel, and eat,

i'm not much on washing stuff,

requires special vegetable wash

and that was expensive last i checked,

and i don't have it,

brushes for potatoes, but not used yet,

and potatoes are piling up,

some sprouted in the bottom of the fridge and thrown out

washing stuff to eat not rinsing for the dishwasher and

get somewhat sterilized what way

(teen advertisement my mother washes dishes before the dishwasher,

what's the point of dishwasher?

well, gets big particles off,

and cleaner over all,

though mothers doing the dishes instead of kids/teens

and attitude misses the point of helping out in the kitchen

and being a good competent, helpful not bratty/bitchy kid

not that all are, but likely many are, and even with new

(to them) hormones, not a lot of sympathy/ very small violins only

 

holding a jug of water,

and questionable tap,

so might be safer just peeling it off,

and cutting off ends, bruises, holes, etc

 

the ceramic peeler putting away from the side

and takes getting used to, seems like handle is more

pull in towards you instead of a whittling stock type thing

(maybe more on that later, my first ceramic stuff)

 

So save the milk for an ice milk?

plan to do ice cream/milk/ sherbet

something dessertish sweet weekly?

as opposed  to daily and/or more?

in summer time, now that it's officially fall...

and leaves down, pumpkin and other stuff

being sold/marketed heavily

since it's at the crossroads,

though it is well off the street, back in the back

like a shopping mall subdivided, and up the hill

at a light and up road, then lots of parking

and from one direction outbound

first seeing behind Dunkin Donuts,

then KFC (closed early am when i went there),

started looking for it, online before even opened,

gMaps/ StreetView data was old and had BabysRUs

photos still up, which isn't the case, year+ old info,

so lots of problems with gDrug

and recently went to see about the other closed places

SafeWay mentioned across Col Pike,

HHGregg gone, now a pop up Halloween store,

and ShoppersFoodWareHouse in 7Corners

gone, and jsut saw that,

so the photos, are still up and google needs

to have an archiving and historical tab or something,

better editing capabilities, and reporting abuse/errors

allowing more than just a few options,

some freeform,

privacy, dangerous/ libel/ slander/ etc,

while searching for quarters to just do laundry

and been checking at night, when cooler

changes, and finishing closing up sometimes,

early am staff there, working on stuff,

even welding and didn't want any help/advice from me,

but cart return and getting a few quarters has happened,

leaving some at handicapped makes some sense

walking using the cart as a stabilizing may help,

but no stations of carts near the handicapped spaces,

and other places have U upsidedown

and some carts indoors, all have been double kid seat wide

that i've seen at multiple Aldi stores...

HillWood having more decorative bike stands

some hit by vehicles/ trucks

and already a repair problem

a few months in from that opening...

Anyways, cooking up some stuff,

flours/ masa end of packaging

adding eggs, but not wasting them

and not using milk,

so from all the Bread books

so far,

what to do?

 

Pancakes were a possibility, but used milk,

and not a complete mix where it's just add water,

 

had seen recently, some TV Cooking Shows

Saturday and then it was Sunday,

Pasta making and flour and 3 of 4 egg yolks,

but gets my hands icky,

so problems there too,

not a lot of surface area to do the kneading by hand,

machine is too strained to handle masa

by itself,

no large strong and expensive StandMixer in sight,

a food processor might be an option with the right attachment,

but not there yet...

 

So made some floury dough type thing

and using a Crofton ceramic skillet like thing

but high top, glass top with a hole for steam to get out

(think rice cooker)

and see in to what it's looking like,

but higher temps,

had to open some corn oil,

saved for donut deep frying /cooking

but out of the little bottle of olive oil,

so something so it would fryish

tortilla like

as masa part of it,

 

using wooden spatulas to mix it,

anything else not strong enough

and metal on ceramic surface another problem,

 

had seen spoon and spoon type making cookies

(tried with Bunny Tails, after Easter extra ~$0.25

once i got butter to make them, not bad,

but not done again yet either, and have several boxes

and 3 sticks of butter left...

though a growing list of other stuff calls for it)

shaping and tried something like that clean hands

options, not OCD but not patty cake mud pies either,

food safety/borne illnesses risks are bad enough,

why add to them?...

 

So never really done such sticky dough

pasta like but not wanting to roll it out,

handing to hand up and dry an issue too...

Going out, something get into them, insects

for instance, but not the only threats...

 

Pancakes can/do pour which is a nice feature,

as does fried dough, the sweet stuff,

but into oil, and i don't have an air fryer (yet?)

expensive and still trying to do laundry and

increasing costs, as early Sunday broke a wheel,

wondering why it was rubbing in the back, not out of true

but didn't really stop either, let the pads out some

micro adjust thumb screw wise,

but need to put on the AldiBikeMateBikeWorkStand2019

bike stand and take a good look

when i could deal with it, found a cracked rim,

near the edge, not dangerous as far as wheel collapsing

unlike the near bare front tire,

which got even abuse from an associate of the Amish cheese

guy, and someone else warned about threats,

missing Witness on PBS of Harrison Ford being sheltered

/ protecting  an Amish witness, missed that,

lost in off hours sleep cycle/schedule...

 

Out of that and noticed a sale Flour and sugar combo

limit 4 (each?) eVIC at Harris Teeter across from Aldi

on Duke street Alexandria, so keep on eye out on that,

and partially why to use up older packages,

sugar getting low for ice cream/ice milk, etc sweetness

with CuisinArtIceCreamMachine2019

and follow on smaller 1.5 qt machines

with extra bowl, the last of the Aldi $40-> $20

ice and salt 4qt Nostalgia machines

seen only at one of the local (ish) Aldis......

 

Anyways, so incoming flour and sugar,

but slow to catch up on milk,

had/have some infant formula,

(more expensive than i would like

but what they have, only try one,

see hot it is: odd tasting for milk,

but will do in a pinch

evap milk and condensed (sweetened)

started to buy cheaply from Aldi

and discount isles,

even goat milk can,

but that was more expensive and bigger cans

save for when i am ready to learn and know the difference...)

the only dry milk stuff  i really find

one large container from the warehouse

but not seen for a while, holidays short and

far between food supplies down,

kids back to school and slow to volunteer

donations down money tight getting kids to school

and seasonal rush, i guess...

 

So many tangents but not as much as the

hot mess i haven't gone in to muck with yet,

if ever, still cooling down,

which has happened some, but

also still issues, to resolve like online

gMaps duplicate, etc

lots o typos, corrections, additions,

sectionalizing and spill over into all sorts of other

things like gDrug issues...

 

 

So turned down the heat,

steaming some more than just pan frying

tortilla like browned edges

as dough could move around in the oil bath

but sticking together,

some separate with spatula

but already getting that sticky

one for scooping out the stuff

a spoon/knife to scrape dough off that spatula

and a relatively clean and dry one

though some oil, helps with the sticklness (sp?)

on the cooking one,

 

weigh and measure while doing cooking like that

new stuff, trying to get numbers down,

say ~100 g each size

which is more biscuit size,

and came out high,

had some but running low on baking powder

but doing freeform/ freestyle not doing numbers

 from someone (else's) recipe so ad libbing/

Sunday so some time for creativity,

though never really made bread from scratch

previously flatbread like

 

Consistency, later i compare with crackers,

some biscuit English muffin like characteristics

if i made them more shaped in a circle

instead of mud pies or some think PlayDough

cooked dough

one show had use up the extra pie crust by cooking

the pieces left over, then jam/ spread on it,

but don't have spreads, and not up to make them,

all the apples given recently but not up to crisp yet,

used to make, but requires actual baking skills

So made / yielded a couple of sets to save

as big amount of dough relatively to eating them

and finding saving some and when tired

and not wanting to cook

left overs are a good thing to have,

saves cooking into bigger batches and eating better

otherwise would...

 

Had started (out of time sequence)

old going bad onion first

and almost burning those but pondering what to do

while trying to cook down the onion

(called sweating them?)

 

But thinking

first pretzels

added mustard to the first ones,

and could pretend, if ignored the size

and not as chewy as that

 

onion bagels and

eventually just dumped some in the

small glass skillet

then added diced tomatoes cans piling up a bit,

beans and tried the new Pressure cooker later in the week,

more on that later, maybe...

Tried repeating it yesterday,

with corn meal that was old, not masa,

flour, is it self rising?

so how much to add?

is it even flour?

or some alternative and likely wasted a gf alternative?

photos, video  clips?

etc?...

 

Something to add to my list of semi skills,

making something like that...

and variations on what to do with it

pretzel like with mustard

pasta like with cooked onions plus diced tomatoes

biscuit like alone,

but butter and jam would be better, imnsho

as rather dry,not the flaky stuff one would want, more...
