EarthQuake2011

Introduction/Definition/etc

Shake, rattle and roll, DC...

Now, if it could get Congress Moving...

And news reports of our local nuclear power plants,

shutting down, makes you say hmmm...

Body

Wake up or while reading in bed, room shakes, wondering what it is,

Google EarthQuake DC or similar, and find something centered

around Rockville last year, but people have been saying there

hasn't been an earthquake in 100 years, so which is correct?

Call to check with others, and they say, yes, it was an earthquake,

which most people around here have not experienced,

I was in one in Upstate New York many decades ago now,

it similar timing, sleeping in, around finals, IIRC, and

whole apartment moves...  I left school shortly thereafter,

wasn't prepared for finals, my girlfriend at the time was

more interesting hardware than the electronics, theory

and stuff I was supposedly being taught...

I started jokes about "The Right Wing finally gets what they want"

or "Will take this as a sign from God",

which many people on email lists thought were funny...

I wonder what Jay Leno and the evening comedians thought,

Congress and the Pentagon were sent home,

perhaps to check after their pets, or family or homes or something,

people say the lunes, crazy people would be more crazy/ upset

by this, and iti s disturbing, but not seen too much of that,

but I'm not in the streets as much as before...

Worried about gas lines, water lines, seen some places

where the streets have inexplicable water coming up from

the ground, while biking, and think the pipes underneath are

broken somehow, not enough to pull all water, but enough

to be a problem, as it erodes further...  Like in Rosslyn between

Iwa Jima and the old Newseum site on the little cross street

before the big buildings there is a hole in the ground, been

there for a while, and someone walking would step into the

hold in the street, and a car wheel would fall in, but it's just

there, not sure why or how, just a big sink hole, someone

is going to have problems with, maybe it's got hard enough

sides to not fall further apart, don't know...

So no gas leaks that I can tell, you don't go looking for them

with cigarette lighters and candles, flashlights, at best,

but anything that causes a spark, or has an open flame,

is a problem, and regular light switches on walls cause sparks,

my current place is electric only, no gas, so don't have that

problem, but have a chemical smell problem, live near the trash/

dumpster, (we disabled get all the choice spots, looking out

on a parking lot, when don't have a car, choice...)

The rail lines and lots of places closed to be inspected,

made it seem like a dry run of a 9/11 anniversary drill...

Emergency Preparedness 101, the tutorial...

And next up, a Hurricane...

Living in a windowed Rental space with no balcony,

don't have much of anything to prepare for...

But that will be in a separate post...
