Interactive Website
Proposal Text:
VII. Service: Establish an interactive recovery website to be used by all stakeholders.
An interactive consumer-operated website would bridge the gap between the numerous delivery sites and services across the region. Any number of sites and services could be accessed by consumers, family members or providers to collaborate, cooperate and dynamically communicate among all to instill hope and move toward a better integrated system of care to support individual consumers in their recovery. This website would support all other recovery initiatives within the region and collaborate with the Regional Recovery Program Director and Consumer Ombudsmen throughout the region.
Funding Request:
A.
Funds to support training and technical assistance for consumers to plan for and implement website, initial start up costs including hardware and software, domain registration, hosting fees and overhead expenses.
B.
Funds to establish (1) part-time consumer-held position that will create, maintain and share the website. Maintenance tasks would include updating website with recovery-based resources, research and articles, a calendar of training and educational and scholarship opportunities, and minutes of area workgroups and committees working to improve recovery-oriented services in the region. Funds for position(s) to include salary and operating costs.
Budget Summary:
Initial start up and technical assistance $20,000
Part time support position 30,000
Implementation Dates: July 2006
Training Needs:
Needed training to implement this service will include training and technical assistance to plan for and implement website, including education on needed hardware and software and management of linked fees and overhead expenses; training for consumers and other stakeholders to utilize the interactive website.
Service Development Contact Person (Name, Phone, Email) *Jerry*
Utilization Management Structure:
Specific utilization management structure will be determined by the Regional Recovery Program Director in consultation with the Recovery Workgroup.
Planned Outcome Measures:
Increased awareness regarding consumer developed programs, recovery activities and initiatives and contributions on the regional, state and federal levels with the assistance of online communication and technology.
Peer Provider Opportunities:
The following opportunities are available to peers as part of this service: involvement in selection of position to create, maintain and share the website; position will be consumer-filled.
Expected Impact on State Facility Utilization:
Consumers involved in this program could be more autonomous in managing their own recovery. Based on this, one could expect more individualized and successful services to address individual needs, support individual recovery and potentially avert a crisis which could lead to hospitalization. We are unable to predict however, the direct impact on state facility utilization.
Consider wiki based on group feedback.
Interactive
Looking up the quick word choice Interactive in an encyclopedia (wikipedia.org), and maybe dynamic would have been better.
Static
Static pages published by a webmaster and unchangeable seemed to be what the group was aware of, and frankly what the user experience of many mh system users (i.e "provider's way or the highway") and there is more collaborative tools out there like wikis, chat, forums, custom designed applications, teleconferencing, web cams, video conferencing, etc.
Potential Issues:
As we may see with wikis, changing things is good and bad. This pbwiki is password protected, so not as easily changable as any citizen editing might want, but a starting place. Bots can come in and deface wikis like vandals doing graffiti.
Other wikis are more easily user account created with user talkback, more site map like menu items, etc but with more user complexity.
More later, but need to get more ready for meeting tomorrow (7/10/2006).
Many wikis have a signiture to make easier to know who wrote what... Trying one below.

Jerry,
See: [http://www.siteground.com/wiki-hosting.htm]
Is this what you were thinking about for at least a start-up wiki-based interactive website service? Should we do this? They include the domain name registration with the package.
If this is something we should do, "NAMI - Prince William" (NAMI-PW) will underwrite the $60/annum fee for at least the first year, and we could negotiate future support if/as needed. (NB - See mail from "Phil" on August 29, below.)
We would need a system admniistrator for this system for both Internet domain name registration and for wiki systems administration. That would be name, address, phone number, and e-mail address. NAMI (or me, acting for NAMI-NoVA/NAMI-PW) would provide any billing information and pick up the specific charges. If necessary, we/NAMI could act as systems administrator and just pass all access information, etc., to you ... if that's possible.
Just let me know and we'll get more details to go forward.
Phil

Jerry,
I’ve confirmed with our IT person that outside users cannot access our internet network with their own laptop; however, outside users can reserve & use the Institute’s LCD projector with the laptop.
I’ve already reserved the room A2 (downstairs) and the LCD & laptop for our next meeting on the 14th, 1-3 pm. That will allow you to pull up & demonstrate the website to all to get additional feedback. Our IT person will be there also to assist in case there’s anything unusual about our setup you may not be familiar with.
Thanks, Sharon

Added Page History section
Not sure if this is the best page, as long page name was shortened to Interactive Website or similar... We need some conventions on terms (i.e. service, subgroups, workgroups, small groups, First Names, Last Names, First L., etc) we use to reduced editing, but a good start!
Please add your comments about adding to the wiki, ease of use, training requirements, other ideas, etc...
