ForTheBirdsAngryNestDroppedOnChickAndChickens2012

Introduction/Definition/etc

A long convoluted title about various types of birds, so see body section below

for what it's all about...

CAUTION: CAN BE DISTURBING

Body

Nest, Chick and Maintenance

Grill on my apartment A/C unit is bent out, and had a nest last year(s)

so maintenance was supposed to put a different grill or chicken wire

on it to prevent another nest from forming...  Didn't happen, another nest

developed, and contacted maintenance who showed up as I was trying

to take a bath after a long time out biking, just bath and bed,

but have to put on clothes, move an old wingback chair to gain access

to the unit in the living room...

Told maintenance to leave for a moment so I can move the chair,

while in a robe, Maintenance does, snickering like, IIRC,

but he's the guy who was called in for mice/rat problem and was

hanging around the parking lot early in the AM when I went

out before the office opened, when asked what he was doing

near the bushes, he said watching the birds, ...

Dropped On

I bike and am dive bombed by a bird on my normal commute,

so not very happy with the species at that time, and only

contact the rental office when I have to, and had to for

other stuff, lest I have to find another place to live...

Anyway, he pulls out the wall unit, and a chick is there,

I had given instructions not to hurt the birds, chicks if any

are there, and he's in a rush, we don't know what to do,

there is a nest, the bird flops around the apartment,

I move the mouse traps, that would be cruel, if it got into

those by mistake, it's behind things, on top of the section

where the floor didn't meet the baseboard, and they had

to fill in with sheet metal to close the holes for the mouse

where it was plugged, but maintenance was the other department,

from pest control, a unified force against vermin was required, IMO

but this is now a baby chick, I had hoped there would not

be there, saying evict the bird, to maintenance,

it had been 90 degrees and I needed to start having A/C

been having problems breathing and resting in the heat...

He touches the bird, I'm climbing on top of the window sill

opening screens, so it can fly out, but it's not ready to fly,

seem to recall don't touch the bird, or the mother will not go

back to it, sent specific, I guess, I ask him to take the

bird/ chick outside and put it in the bushes, thinking the one

across the parking lot, but maybe the one right out front,

they seem to use sound, the noisy chirping I've been hearing

early am, before sunrise, you see it's not 5 am, nay,

6 am by the time I'm writing this drivel, had some pancakes

cooked early the other day, too early to go out,

pre dawn, can only time shift on the computer,

catching up on email,  looking stuff up online, etc..

So bird is taken out, he quickly pulls the nest out of the

A/C unit intake, a big heavy unit, not a mere window unit

but a built in heater thing too, we've done that many times

in over a year of being here, I don't have Central Air,

nor Heat, nor thermometer to know how cold and / or warm

it really is, I should get some basic meter to know,

and top floor, nice for not having people walking on my head

like the old place, but a burden walking the stairs to get there,

each day out, taking bike and groceries, not to mention moving

all my crap in...

Hoping the baby bird is OK, I don't like things being killed,

Darwin is not fun to watch, others I'm hearing are having

baby bird issues, some with children involved, have to save

the bird, but there are so many, there may be a bird rescue

where they know how to nurse them, I don't and it's lists in

Maryland so no direct reference, but it's also like gerbils,

gold fish and other very small pets, not much one can do,

to save them...  Would be a wonderfully inspirational story

if I could say the bird lived, I don't know, not sure I want to

know others have better stories, we just kind of don't say,

I saying I didn't want to hear, another set of birds shepherded

from the parking lot, to the side the mom dive bombing

anything getting near them, I guess that's where you get

the hovering mom / helicopter mom phraseology

so appropriate on Mother's Day month :-)

Angry Birds

Angry Birds, the computer game available for Money

on iPhones/ iPads and probably a TV Show, kids

have hats and it's all the rage...  The Science Engineering

And Tech festival, my first this year, one group I was

involved with in Baltimore, commuting by Motorcycle up

to a Hackerspace there, until Motorcycle down

made a big sling shot, bought birds red and

green (turns out to be pigs, I just though different colored

birds) but the pigs were eating the eggs, and the birds

were Angry, so getting even, it was all the rage at the

Convention Center and elsewhere, they previously

did Paper Rockets and launched them with compressed

air, and I was alternating between Mission Control and

"Houston, We Have A Problem" so many creations were

exploding on the launch pad, air not tight, taping and

other stuff, Old People are not necessarily doing the

building, we volunteer to run it, I'm just an extra hand,

trying to give back in an environment that needs volunteers,

though I'm more cleanup and entertainment, and crowd

control, it's tiring bending down to pickup parts of

blown up rockets, or declaring a "Home Run"

when it flies onto the roof, not to be returned,

It's Someone Else's Now, sorry, kids,

got to make another one...

This year they had a sign, check RobotFest.com

for some environment, an anti-artillary, really

Anti Aircraft gun as a Lawn Jockey

near BWI Airport, so required rentals,

or long convoluted transportation means on weekends,

B30 bus from GreenBelt Metro, when Rail construction

makes commuting times and connections nearly impossible

to get there at a start or at all, where I saw my first 3 D

printer, was partial inspiration for Hackerspace/ Bike Coop/

, JerrySpaceIdea my unfunded unrealized dream,

I'm mostly too tired to pursue, years later,

with residential component, etc adding Sewing

and other goodies to the dream, as I experience them...

Open source / Open Hardware the plans for making the sling

shot, and have lots of people around and you might

have something for the Farmer's Markets, a kid friendly

booth, my Angry Bird went missing, I bought one

and later that day could not find it... :-((

So got a tablet, Android Tablet and Angry Birds game

is free download there, costs money on iPhone and elsewhere,

AFAICT, so after the RobotFest.com and

ScienceTechAndEngineeringFestival2012

and other not so fun Occupy and Bike Crap happening,

got to finally play Angry Birds, now a new Addiction, difficult

to master, and so many different games, Space is the new one,

Rio is funny, less about the harming of pigs, that smile when

a bird goes poof, essentially dying, but virtual, after willingly/

happily hopping up onto the slingshot almost Kamikaze like,

in committing bird suicide...  The metaphor is disturbing,

thinking 9/11 analogy, crashing into buildings, and

the fear, hatred, violence, despite the giggles involved,

a sick guilty pleasure to be sure, typical of preteens

and teens, Goth and other sickness, typical of growing up...

Chickens

Earth Day biking by a church parking lot where another

person in another jurisdiction is petitioning, looking for signatures

to allow birds, chickens in the back yards in the city/

suburbs, I'm thinking, since I don't sign much of anything,

I'm going to the County Board meeting and Cluck,

see how that goes, they kind of think it funny,

I'm wondering if I get kicked out... Or worse...

People in Fairfax, and Arlington were both interested

in doing that, I say, You get mad at them  and they're

chicken...  And what of the loose pit bull that gets in

the back yard?  Roosters?  Not allowed, so how do they

keep laying eggs?  They are mostly afternoon noise,

from what I hear, fresh local food, fresh eggs vs.

the store bought variety, said to be so much better

I'm wondering Salmonella, etc...  But I'm not a farmer,

(see Hulu.com Who Do You Think You Are?

on Paula Dean, going back to Planter (read Plantation

Owner, vs Farmer as she discovers a state legislator

and Judge relative at 3x Great Grandfather, later Civil War and

his Suicide in the Reconstruction Depression...

So later Handed a free ChickOFilla coupon on

BikeToWorkDay2012 I'm asking "what of the Vegans?"

I'll save more on that on that other page...

Conclusion

Summary of experience or similar

Darwin is not fun to watch in action...

Wonder where the bird rescue place is around here...

Leaving the A/C unit on so another bird's nest doesn't form

is expensive...

Maintenance still hasn't fixed the grill

"they aren't going to do it, they don't like you" said the office,

after I cut my other activities short to get back and get it done...
