HarleyAndTheDavidsons2016

Introduction/Definition/etc

History of Harley Davidson docudrama on Discovery, last of three parts, tonight...

Maybe rerunning the older segments, not sure, they did last night, just before and again part two after...

Body

Well, some build up, the Texas garage show, Gas Monkey, or Ass Monkey as the Asian upholstery woman calls him when he dumps lots of stuff on her last minute, then haggles on the price, other spin off shows, Mistfit Garage, fired from Gas Monkey, and started their own garage, and others, Sacred Steel, maybe even other stuff Milwaukee blacksmith, and others, maybe coming out, will see, not direct relations, but interesting, sometimes all the same...

Trailers and teasers ran for a while, and likely on YouTube and other outlets, maybe even showing on Hulu, likely for cost, will see when get around to search for stuff...

Not so much technical, but giving some of the history, I don't know, even after a tour or three of the Harley Davidson plant in York PA, usually late in the season, finding the automated welding interesting, but priced out, for my options, mostly because of the weight, unless I wanted a girl's bike...

The old military ones seemed interesting, but buying something needing too much work done on it, spare parts, etc, but would use the SAE tools, when buy combo sets, sometimes get unused (except for pedal cart...)

Flatheads, and other names ring a bell, but could not get an ancestral chart when at the factory, and the custom, was really not as custom as I would have liked...  Touring the painting, watching, with the steel toed tour, how things are assembled, just in time, making tanks pressing metal, painting, etc, not sure I recall much of the details, and then going in the cold to get some Plain food, sometimes whatever I can find, like Italian, and then ride back in the cold, getting dark earlier, etc... That was when I had heated gear before it wore out, gloves with strings, being laughed at, and some said they snipped it, I looked ridiculous, but only a surface warm, less is more, as the seem to think, in regards to moi..

Spoiling

Well, the movie, instead of more lead up, PR...

A well produced, high costumed and likely costly production, but you only turn 125, or whatever, once, BMW got 100 recently, Sturgis made 75 a little while back, and other stuff, along the way...

Railroad takes the guy's farm/ land, and started the brawl, get off my land, and posted, forced to sign, at $0.15 / acre, even back then, not much, totaling 125 dollars or so he invested in his brothers and Harley's (the engineer of the set, liked drawing, made stuff, but also his brother (in a wheel chair from a war?), and other issues going on, MidWest, and mostly the business side of things, not as technical as I'd like...

Many modifications, and making the first one work, the thrill of getting it to fire, and keep running, then other problems, and refinements...

Press got negative, MurderCycle, and cute snobbish little reporter, had a fiancee, then not, when invited to the New York races with a PR guy, who started wartime fix your own, and other competing directly with Indian, the well funded and polished guy, then clubs, when dealers associations locked them out, even after help from some other businessmen, other industries, teaching him/them how to get it and keep it going...

Harley, kind of like Buell, we might get to, hopefully tonight, was going for engineering school, messing around, people stealing parts and tools, from work, getting beat up, but still getting things under the table, a machinist, and union type guys, ruffians and bar brawls, and all the negative things most thing of bikers, most may not be like that, at least as I see, and hope it would be, likely a pipe dream, of clean and sober bikers, of both varieties...

Romance plays a part, but 'it's like an explosion between your legs', not really the P.C. things engineers are supposed to say to young women who return your bicycle, after riding off with it, talking of the future, and later married, afaict...  He has a non disclosure/ no compete clause to work for a well funded college guy's company in University, while working a waiter, and sucking at it, frankly...  Not likely to be taken back, he has to choose between the risk of running his own part of a company, or the security of working for others, who will own it, and him... Other times, the guys leave a relative's wedding, and go show their prodigal brother what they wrote about needing money, and a negotiating a stake in things, 'it's too dangerous', leading to 'they will buy it' or similar...

The thrill of riding on roads, some would call trails/ double track now...

The Velodrome equivalent, a race, to promote bikes, and considered suicide reaching 90-100 miles per hour to stay up on a 60 degree inclined turn, and even one of the key guys refuses, not allowing anyone to do it, from the company, with company bikes, but charismatic renegade has to race, losing his cow hand guy, he quit, having raced for fun in the woods, and gets killed, on motodrome track, racing, heavy emotions, first death then funeral, and drinking before the bank guy proposals for funding, a cut throat business portrayed, some blood and race scenes as well...

Rivalries exist besides just beating Indian, the manufacturers' association and who leads that, who is left out in the cold, but later Patent issues, and other problems, limited fuel, World War, cut back to essentials only, and called into the general's / colonel/ purchasing officers' office and got make 20k bikes, each (Indian / HD) after the bickering stopped, competition and training how to fix your own, not really what I'm seeing much of now a days, BabyNeedsNewShoes2016 and RedneckGarage2013 and other stuff, not withstanding...

First night, I was dead tired, having caught up on laundry, finally, but some think drugged down, some messenger trying to recruit on Labour Day, for free shop help/ slave, claiming to save people from the welfare rolls, and/ or other stuff...  Maybe just to get other memorabilia and trap bikes and people, idk...

And I just slept thru it, missing, regretting, and luckily rerun before the next day's Part Two...

Part Three, Will See

More tonight, but tired again, lookup the online programming guide and see if repeats, and new again at 9 pm, much later than my usual sundown bedtime, in order to be up early, for writing drivel I'm currently calling mourning pages, and ride (down to pedaling) when cooler...

PART One Replays now at 5pm, and builds to 9 pm new Part Three...

Conclusion

Summary of experience or similar

Not the PR I'm used to, some familiarity, but no where near geekiness on the topic(s) of HD, seen a Buell, or a couple, even the Odyssey Adventure version, most of the LifeStyle bikes, not on track much these days, unless the free ride around during lunch (can pay for extra times around, now, and women pay what men do, from a lawsuit, iirc)  But we can scrape off those food rests, no problem, lean some more, he says with a high supposedly dual sport that really doesn't cut offroad much...  My lines are entirely different than the other ones,

but I'm at beginner level, not intermediate (passing on turns), nor advanced, nor racing, and that is TrackDays...

TrackDays2012 now years since past...

Discussion

A place for feedback on the page presented

So what has your contribution been to Bikes?

Design your own Merkel engine yet?

Fix anything on your own bike, or still dreaming of being able to afford one?

Much less get the license, endorsement, and be able to pay for insurance, much less gas, upkeep, etc...

Know people who have been killed on those things , and hell no my kid/ relatives, workers, etc will never ride one of them, ever, /StompsFeet

Well, even if you think you are better than god to take people's free will from them, the more you protest, the more the rebels will go without a cause/ clue...

And, no, you can't have a ride/nor steal my toy/ adventure wannabe/ utilitarian, one vehicle allowed means of transit...

Just working on what would be a beer belly, if I actually drank the stuff, (no haven't seen a sit up in a while...)
