HeatAdvisories2009
Introduction/Definition/etc
Having only spent a few hours in the heat recently, and basically
being housebound because of it, I'm remembering and publicizing
that our homeless [and others] are probably in need of help,
as cooling stations at Drop In Centers, and kindness,
instead of the [usual] nastiness, so maybe that is the southern
charm, a politeness that developed over the centuries,
on how to be kind to people, because it's hot as hell
out there, and that's before global warming...

Body
In poor communties, and disabled are particularly poor,
some without benefits would think that those with benefits
are the rich ones, but still probably living below the poverty
level, according to the federal poverty scale (reference
PovertyProject, 40 acres and a mule,
ADA19thAnniversaryProclamation,
and just about everything else on this site...),
but I started ranting about the heat...
Psychiatrists, and legislators (read Congress),
and most every normal person knows to get out
of town, to mountains, or the beach during this
time, but us poor people can't. We can't afford
to (picturing fire hydrants and people playing/ cooling
in the sprinklers), so you may see problems in the ghettos,
(and most disabled live in the projects/ poorer areas)
throughout the region. People who are fortunate
enough to have a home, are probably stuck
inside, even those with places to go...
Normally this day is the RRWG monthly
meeting, but AFAIK, is not happening today,
and I didn't know early enough to schedule
rides, and it would be unwise, unheatlhy
risking heat stroke, heat exhaustion,
etc to try to bike out someplace today,
and most of the last weeks.
Those with medications, antipsychotics,
in particular and even tricyclic antidepressants
increase the sun sensitivity, plus may
add the weight gain with the atypical
antipsychotics, is a dangerous combination...
So let's be careful out there,
and even inside, tempers and
other issues may increase with
the heat, just as with the cold,
(I think we lose more people to heat
than hypothermia, but don't keep
records or help the homeless,
and others as much}
but you can do more about warming
up than cooling off...
Chillin' dudes, and dudettes..
Conclusion
Summary of experience or similar:
Some information for people like consumers
working/ volunteering at Drop In Centers
that here are some of the issues, in case
you weren't aware, and most consumers
would not have been trained on this...
