So signed up early to Volunteer Ride Marshall
the 60 mile option to LeesBurg and back,
but then decided not to do that,
and weather cooperated,
somewhat,
i didn't get that worked up about not going,
slept some the night before,
I went anyways, not registered,
not volunteering,
breezed by the start, which i thought late,
(earlier pre dawn registering, and departure,
say 4 or 5 am, could avoid hours of prime burning time,
perhaps a reasonable accommodation for some),
but about how fast i was getting ready,
so a little about a DIY ride to LeesBurg,
and/or beyond, as i hadn't decided
on the way out...
Body
Original Text
Having done ride support volunteering
for KGMR2018
and some of the issues mentioned there,
other stuff, and commitment ahead required,
no money to get sponsored riding,
but ended up with a little more safety margin,
if didn't pay some other stuff,
(problems likely later)
bicycle drive train problems,
tried a new cassette after the old one separated,
slipping/ riding over the sprockets,
under load,
tried adding a new z chain,
as previous seemed old and stretched,
and not matching the new cassette
leaving diagnostically:
derailleurs (front, back?)
and chainrings (combo with cranks?)
some incompatibility, bent derailleur hanger
(not a separate part on my beater bike, btw)
so what was happening was
purchasing accessories,
but not figuring out the catalog ordering of
derailleurs (sp?)
and ordering cycle askew (sp?)
with paying for it,
so all sorts of issues,
besides just personal ones,
but got to the day, had some sleep,
not that worried about it,
gave notice earlier than usual
other events cancel the night before,
perhaps giving some other(s) a chance
to volunteer for more than just cleanup,
and/or support roles, (aka place holding)...
Last years seemed to have co marshalls
this time single handing,
which if i hadn't been fast enough,
didn't get along with people, likely BTW,
or had to bail myself on the distance,
dragging others down with me,
a no drop ride, i'm not sure if this was,
didn't attend the marshall's meeting,
nor get emails about it, as had cancelled,
and detours with fairly recent washouts,
plus other things to do,
not a lot of prep rides with the heat
and mechanical, etc issues,
and the ~40 mile version
seem to wimpy to me,
personally...
So breezed by the start,
some annoying people there, already,
some probably tried taking my picture,
which i didn't approve of,
and pointed that out when a photog
was added to the volunteering,
standard attacks as well,
but whistle, honk horn had come apart
during loading/prep
and thinking some (good people) should
know i'm around, what i'm wearing (sp?), etc
as might be socialable (sp?), later,
not en masse at the start,
or much of any other times,
in numbers...
A fast start for me,
normally don't try burning out,
aka jack rabbit starts
someone seemed to follow along
and do the turn for turn,
with detours
(like under North Wilson flooded out)
to the light, hit the button, wait, wait, etc,
but low traffic, and went across at the cones,
i did tell a few people that i was passing
that there might be some century people coming along,
sometime, not sure how late the actual start was,
as didn't stay for it,
and not really my role,
though i would for other events,
so maybe so,
joggers and people two or more abreast,
and creates hazards for larger groups,
passing,
etc...
WildLife Early
Later than usual for me,
but
3 bunny rabbits seen early,
1 deer, and my day was getting better,
despite the two legged people/ species...
Farmers Markets Passed
Falls Church would have had to go a ways of course,
but others might have been able to stock up,
and i think that one is all year, and starts early,
so might be an alt for some...
Vienna too,
but a little out of chronological sequence,
back to normal time line...
Detour(s)
I had other things to do,
so about an hours stop,
and back to the trail
at the same point i got off,
added miles (5?) and some down time,
bathroom, much needed paper towels,
forgot that, thinking i could pick them up,
but even the Vienna train thing
didn't have a bathroom
only some water fountain,
and doors blocked signs on doors,
and post Vienna chemical toilet bathroom
(could have used toilet paper,
and had chemical wipes
in bags in the back,
but antibacterial and not sure if i'd react,
and near my face,
which was already a problem with likely
cystic acne (whitehead) and
had recently (day+)
eaten fudge covered granola bars,
i sometimes attribute it to that: chocolate,
some family have chocolate allergy,
maybe me, idk...
(WikiPedia says it's not caused by that
nor some other things)
Nose issues may have been RagWeed
which the yellow flowery type stuff was seen...
Temperature rather cool considering,
early morning start, which was the point,
for me...
Leaves were starting to come down some places,
so thinking fall, already, and just August?
Food Scale?
(Later on realizing i forgot a food scale,
pulled off at Herndon and
found a bent? biker at Hardies?
who pointed me towards Green Lizard,
somehow i was forgetting
it was the one across from the train
in downtown Herndon,
before the county library,
and the pit stop there,
one of which was nice enough to lookup
CVS on Elden, (Eden?)
and some less than a mile from there,
i guessed it would be good for them
to know for others anyways,
shift change, and gave a name,
in case they were tracking some people,
so mixing being a part of the ride, and not,
and just general help along the way,
some thing a non profit might do as a trail courtesy,
already passed a water stop at Cedar Lane,
skipped thinking not for me,
but maybe they said for anyone, idk
the Farmer's Market there
at the community center
skipped too...
So back on the trail,
9am+ and likely the mass
KGMR crowd had passed me
while i was doing other stuff,
and a choice of going home,
or do some of the ride,
and went further out,
still thinking on an ice cream vendor
at the Lake Anne Farmer's Market
mentioning using dry ice
(only one that does?)
and some other stuff
(someone wanted to write about ice cream
making, but employer objected, had to run by them,
their trade secrets/ encumbered,
small business, seasonal work, etc...),
all rather distracting, and hungry
but thought enough to bring
a couple of boxes of granola/ breakfast bars,
bought in discount earlier in the month,
but not the scale, go figure,
chalking up to a quick early am rush...
Walgreen checking there,
but they didn't have a food scale,
having 3 already from CVS
but at home,
knowing some CVS stores have them,
asked and they gave directions,
told me before the train
(later, now thinking MetroRail
not the historic one on W&OD...)
and pointed in the direction
(instead of street names,
which i didn't pay attention to,
still distracted by something wrong with your face
like comments, while picking up/buying Neutragena
acne soap on discount there
and some errand i hadn't gotten to yet, this month)
which happened to quickly get back on
crossing the W&OD...
A 7-Up at Walgreens seemed to have helped,
but took a while to take effect,
a lot of concern/ issues with the one lady
thinking i wanted/ needed/ whatever,
disqualifying
do you need the SAG Wagon?,
and not really listening / caring, idk...
Discrimination and exclusionary stuff
normally found in the suburbs, likely too,
Bought the scale, drank my cold 7-Up
and felt better, (maybe some A/C in the store?)
Plus I get to EAT,
more than just packed,
including the BBQ place,
maybe Farmer's Market at LeesBurg,
missed last year with no money,
While there, checked the Green Lizard,
parking the bike a problem, very crowded
but locked it, just to itself,
as light pole too wide,
cable too short,
others around looking out after each other,
roadie bikes, a line at the drinks/ coffee/
juice/ whatever bar in the front
(remember Phoenix could do some food too
mentioned at YBS YouthBikeSummit2017
and KGMR2018
but even the bigger space in AMCC
than the shack at BarCroft,
not a lot of space for it,
though likely designed for it,
as was going to have food,
but two contracts fell thru...
Filled my Phoenix non insulated water bottle,
at the filter machine near the one customer bathroom,
and associate line,
checked what merch they had,
no drive train stuff on display,
only tools, cables, brakes, rotors, etc
and pricey too, afaict, not seeing any marked,
really, gloves i could have used
but no prices nearby,
and seem to recall last year
they didn't want me to touch anything,
one sales guy asked what i wanted,
and i said just looking
and left me alone,
nice enough...
Next door or so a Latino market,
Bodega Bakers, no long lines,
nor crowds,
had Vanilla, imitation for cheap,
seemed to me (later discover
propylene (sp?) glycol or similar,
so look for better sometime)
and a Mango juice nectar can,
so bought that,
skipped on a tortilla woven basket
(seen solid plastic somewhere
and limited funds)
and single antibacterial soap bar,
checked which masa they had,
a couple varieties, and small sizes,
not 20 lb or so like one closer to Phoenix
(rice sold in that size, i had bought
before it went Latino, MegloMart, i call it)
honked/ whistled at the small kid
in line with a parent,
and noticed Tres (sp?) Leches
and/or similar desserts
"I'll have to get on the way back" or similar,
"give me something to look forward to..."
or very similar...
(skipped as had eaten so much at BBQ
but adding name and link here
in case go back through and general info)
Thinking i might have to hurry
to get to a farmers market at LeesBurg,
before maybe noon closing?
AshBurn had a BBQ place,
but not really looking at miles,
turns out maybe 15 miles for Ashburn,
and another 15 after that for LeesBurg
similar for Purcellville (sp?)
Reston is about 15 miles out,
so breaking up the trail in 15 mile segments
logically may help qualitative reasoning)
Sterling is in between
(LeesBurg and Reston/Herndon),
and a Harbour Freight to consider,
but didn't bring my printed catalog,
so no free stuff, unless download, etc...
i did think to bring some tools,
Y tool hex,
multi tool from Aldi...
(bottle opener proved useful
for Old Dominion Root Beer
on the way back, it turns out)
AshBurn Rest Stop
Chemical toilets bathroom before BBQ place,
not too busy, despite the soda sweating it all out,
and didn't have to pee, as i recall,
that direction,
a theme for the day,
long straight aways, in the sun,
not a lot of mid day relief,
AshBurn Carolina Brothers BBQ
(I would think more specific
North, South, West, East?
but all lumped together,
i guess)...
BBQ place was open,
(last year on the way out for an 8am
start volunteering in LeesBurg...
and poor and tired on the way back,
getting sick (shift food and heat)
by then too)
i was looking for a break
find a canned A&W Root Beer,
cold in the refrigerated case,
Barqs is on tap/fountain,
order $9.50 beef brisket special platter
including 2 sides
(mac n cheese,
and potato salad
others maybe less tempting,
baked &/or green beans?)
special $1.50 or so banana pudding /pie?
apple and pecan pie about $2,
so save a little,
2x post cards,
one with recipe for whole pig,
and sauce(s) $0.95 each
corn bread $0.95
(maybe try 2? nope save some?)
and totaled about $15,
some tax and tip,
and rounded to $20
almost twice what the platter price
would have assumed,
so lots of extras and asked to go,
as not sure I'd finish it all,
on site, outside, cooler out there,
than inside, all the baking/ cooking going on,
i guess...
Platter containers was/were StyroFoam,
so maybe better ways of doing that,
next time, now that i ( now + you)
know...
Take outside, check my stuff,
get situated,
open/pull apart the food scale,
battery tab cover,
on a picnic bench in the shade,
one person doing upper body workout
on putting/cranking up another umbrella,
i'm interjecting into other's conversations,
some funny, likely getting annoying,
even to me,
a couple of ladies nearby,
Earlier, coming in,
i had caused a bike to fall off/tilt the rack/
sideways, but that guy had left already?
Basically a little courtyard, right on the trail,
a couple of racks across the trail, public park there,
I had been to the general store decade+ before,
when much younger, never really got into
riding the W&OD that far out,
didn't see the point,
and likely similar heat / sunburn issues)
and another bike rack edging the picnic area...
Decor is sign of map on the side wall,
i had taken photo of previously,
(this year's had kids in it
and parents didn't like it,
i was too tired to get up,
and do it over again,
but have mile markers
maybe for reference
if get / need info along the way,
edit out others if need something to publish)
An ADA? wheel chair ramp
to the door by the trail,
other side has regular steps, iirc,
and large igloo like water containers,
guy (inside, never seen, maybe working in back?)
mentioned filtered, thanks
putting my big heavy mountain on the lift up rack
out front, guy right there got his bike,
and didn't something else with it,
i had locked mine, but with stuff on it,
didn't want to leave it long unattended
even with relatively good bikers nearby,
but some might not like me...
(one guy too nosy inquisitive questioning
intrusive bordering on creepy,
guy on the way back, so not all good)
Slow to eat and a lot of stuff,
interjecting into conversion with ladies nearby,
(had i bought bigger 1lb to go,
(in fridge case, so how to heat up?
timing of eating on the go, where/ when, etc)
and eaten out in the wilderness?)
and eventually just stuffing my face,
while weighing away from home,
(on somewhat uneven picnic table)
at the end
i ended up giving one lady the web address
of my tour journal
(+ warning on snakes, in the back,
don't slideshow mode the 150 or so photos,
single click and read some of the text?
for heads up here, like headers/ sections here)
they seemed to be planning a tour/trip
including getting her son pick them up,
decisions like one way or not,
and negative comments i tried to ignore of
how unappetizing with what i was doing,
likely the zit on my face,
reminding people to eat less,
by seeing someone
weighing and photographing food?
eating so quickly, so much, etc
and/or bordering on hate?)
Some talk about alternative
go to White's Ferry
camp along C&O, but Saturday night
and risks on the road to the ferry,
drivers drinking etc...
Fairly typical of rest and eating stops:
Difficulty getting going
after eating so much,
and rather heavy, rich stuff,
soda didn't fill me up,
water additionally from containers
and paper? cups provided,
had to go in for utensils, paper towels,
would have been good to have a way
of adding more BBQ sauce,
internally squeeze? containers there,
but not outside,
and not little cups to take out,
hot BBQ sauce and small
she did put cole slaw on the side,
(add as i wish)
that cup with lid side size would be good,
maybe ketchup size ones, some place,
...
Good enough, Carolina Brothers BBQ,
so not always what i'm used to
(do i really distinguish?)
like Chili regional variations on stuff,
(Cincinnati v. Texas, Con Carne, etc)
vinegar, less tomato based,
and some sweet, spicy,
some think mostly about the sauce,
but i rarely have beef, so brisket
good option for me,
so much donated chicken legs,
pork was other options,
maybe next time?
I also skipped cookies, etc...
thought of the whole pound or so and
take out, buying potato rolls,
but not easy to eat,
maybe bring an insulated/ refrig bag
some other time,
and eat out further?
realizing LeesBurg
is wide and maybe another hour away?
(going <10 miles/ hour?)
given low energy 30 miles? out already,
mid day heat/ sun,
full, sleep schedule/
dog ate my homework,
i ate the whole thing,
siesta time, etc...
LeesBurg
Hit LeesBurg line,
saw a deer's head peaking out
along the way, alerted others,
somewhat worried some might be hunters..
Generally, a trade off of startling the riders,
and deer telling them of a deer oncoming,
but i guess err on the side of caution...
LeesBurg intersection where the turn off to
Plum Grove Cyclery . had some people there
a group getting going by the pavilion,
something about first there buys beer,
my smart ass comment of
never have a bunch of drunk bikers
and some less bikey cultured others,
which may have just been lost,
giving directions? and/or general tourists
and going to the 60 mile with KGMR,
but i didn't assist/ question,
and they didn't ask me,
I kept going to see if the farmer's market
was still open, others oncoming
near the under bridge turn, including
head marshall and likely outgoing ED Meg
said closed (doppler effect of going the other way,
delays in recognizing people, etc),
not sure the rest stop, and/or FM,
but turns out both were being disassembled,
saw one friendly staff guy loading
Black Pearl van
and the two female volunteers,
less friendly, so ignored them...
No reason to check in with them,
didn't register for the ride,
and not volunteering, so having it both
ways, as people are part of the problem,
weather is just a symptom...
And yes, they may have tried getting
me on the board last year, but
conflicts with writing this, and other stuff,
being responsible for others,
legally, morally, and not liking a lot
of what goes on,
how i'm treated,
even if in general support
of biking and kids...
Out of Time Sequence: InterLeaving LeesBurg
There was in the middle of town a festival/
something with drinking and signs
("no alcohol beyond this point"
or very similar on store doors),
had to get off the bike and walk,
police vehicle and barricades,
which my legs might have been OK
sometimes on long rides and
going too fast, difficulty walking
for a while afterwards,
but slowed stuff up even more,
and made me even later, returning...
At the farmer's market,
two trucks still packing up,
i'm looking for something wet
and cold, the beer truck for the
nearby bier garden didn't cut it for me,
stopped in at the bike store in that plaza,
walked thru similarly had asked what i wanted,
just seeing what they have,
never know what you might need,
and 30+ miles out now,
they had Trek eBikes,
and other high end stuff,
I'm more concerned with low end
and drive train and gloves to keep going)
So kept going, wondering what i would
try doing in town, had a few things
i didn't get to last year and this,
but lacking maps and lost,
extra miles,
and really just looked at places to eat,
having eaten already,
which was the road /one to White's Ferry?
up 15North?
W&OD bike route to C&O bike route
signage could help,
but that's competing jurisdictions,
perhaps some rivalry
between the C&O and W&OD?
especially businesses living off of tourism...
Well, on the stop at Plum,
took my bike in,
others were talking and packing up
saying how they didn't like my write up last time,
or WhatEver, I looked in the mini fridge,
half drunk elderberry in a blueberry color bottle?
and what looked like all unknowns/EtOH,
some IPA can(s), nothing i recognized,
fairly loud crowd/ guys drinking in the back,
staff guy in odd counter corner
and another asking/telling/ offering:
we have tap water?
i seem to recall,
now from last year limited options:
but sadly not good enough for me,
with my usual accustomed to filtered,
risking getting sick, and this far out,
i've been looking at buying filtered bottles
to take with me, as tap will likely
make me sick,
the owner? seemed to recognize me
from last year...
Someone male said try the gas station
across the street,
but part way someone (else?) also said
they don't like bikes in,
with my stuff on it, no choice, for me...
I got an Apu South Park/ Simpson's greeting
No Bikes in the Store,
I just want something cold to drink
i turned around and left in a mild/ mock huff,
"Or Not..."
let him call the police
for an ADA discrimination violation
and back to the trail,
what were those places in between?
anything would have what i want
and allow me in?
Settled on a triathlete store there,
walk in with bike,
weren't happy about it, but didn't stop me,
fridge on side wall (which?)
with 1.5 Litre water bottles,
turns out to be $3.xx,
+ a little bit of a wait,
thirsty and annoyed by the last interaction(s),
so some attitude on my part,
but finally found,
so running staff,
between case, and register,
another nearby staff was ignoring me,
he's technical and wrenching i guess,
she's on the register / sales,
(they could even be married,
ya never know)
Back outside, a guy with a smart phone,
his LED on bright,
i mention he might want to turn that off,
save battery for when you need it?
and start drinking the cooler
but not really very cold water,
it fits in the water bottle cage, almost,
fiddling with it can / could cause a crash,
taking out the one there already warm,
and get back on the trial, right there,
and get back,
really just want ice, frozen,
but not too much sugar,
doors open and no A/C
on most places even BBQ
so no cooling zone/
hyperthermia for cooling stations,
misting places, like running races,
not really a concern, i guess
a Bed and BreakFast
is more their commercial style,
much less bars, drinking, signs for beer
all along the trail. abound, and
it's Saturday past noon,
most seem like closing up,
maybe the fair/festival in downtown?
and might be best to be back,
home, in A/C cool and taking a nap...
Weather?
Never really checked weather,
specifics were 90 degrees earlier,
and may have gone over,
some recent weather
had 100 when forecast was 90,
and 90 is about my limit,
afaict, was doing 55 or so miles,
and heat index 110 or whatever
and had some serious problems,
worried about getting back,
sick &/or hospitalized,
already know few options,
but i had kept some cash,
in the new month,
in case needed a taxi,
similar to rail, but how much is that?
How to find? someone dropping off at AshBurn?
and then an option of talking someone into
picking up there an option too,
like some van services?
similar to C&O for campers?
only the youth hostel/ some places do that,
the C&O and Brunswick (how far from LeesBurg?)
has a MARC commuter train line,
seems to have started taking bikes on board,
and / but that line only runs on weekdays?
Have to check details, sometime...
Returning
No real benefit to going to Purcellville (sp?)
bragging rights and another
30 miles there and back,
so alas, decision by exhaustion,
the long journey home,
having seen most, before,
and recently
so nothing much of note,
but hours and no notes taken,
really, much, stop in at BBQ
buy an Old Dominion root beer
in a bottle, looks like beer,
and a Carolina Brothers BBQ (mild) Sauce
?? ~ $9 + tax & tip, adding up,
and worried about going over
bounce fees and really
a binge spending and eating
as much as ride,
I had already got something errand like,
imitation vanilla, in Herndon
and another set of things
(gPlay cards for extra gPhoto disk space),
errands along the way,
and planning on the way back,
mostly just suffering with the heat,
legs Jelloy (tm elsewhere,
but re-appropriated for my use here),
and unpowered, sun hurting with burn,
feeling it on my side and over,
hoping for some cloud cover,
and planning stops in sun,
maybe ride in shade, but how long,
use dataplan for determining that?
Stop at AshBurn Rest Stop
Was looping around, ids there,
make noises, whistle honk,
prop bike between chemical toilets
two guys in the shade seemed OK,
as they left, toilet seat not staying up,
urine already on the seat,
using toilet paper to try to hold the seat up,
door stayed open, turned around,
only guys there by then,
i had mentioned BBQ place ahead,
might have been a surprise, i spoiled
for them, but they might have read the bags
took, young, but graphics of a pig
ice cream and frozen stuff,
sorry, i didn't know,
general support, what's ahead,
and not knowing it was a secret/surprise,
already rather tired i guess,
and not mind reading...
My urine rather dark,
as i recall, a sign of dehydration,
no pee in here urinal,
just a seat option,
but had hand sanitizer,
and i used some after...
Maybe it's wheelchair size
chemical toilets that have a urinal too?
Plus prop the bike in the door,
as locking it, sometimes a pain,
especially if just make it there,
not the case, but not sure when the
next rest stop/ toilet option besides all
the trees and likely onlooking neighbors/
why are those trail vagrants peeing
near my back yard type complaints...
Bail at Reston Rail?
Bail Again, but my pride,
last time i did,
but with volunteering,
and likely messed with lunch food(s),
this time even later than that,
but ate what i wanted,
cost me (dearly?) along the way,
big time, and maybe more than that,
some August blow out?
Last big trip was Sturgis
Sturgis2013
in early August,
but with SNT funds,
IWannaBeATrustFundBratWhenIGrowUp
and
TheMindFuckThatIsArcOfNOVA2012
and a
WeldingBasics2013
community college certificate student
then...
Life may not be going the direction
i want, and not much i can do about it,
is it the general decline?
Low disability and life circumstances/
situation, and /or exhaustion/
August AugustAngst2016
etc?
Reading Challenge
SummerReadingChallenge2019
PressureCookerCookBooks2019
MetaBreadBooks2019
MungedMetaData2017
and
WODAppIdear2018
plenty to keep me busy,
but not happy nor really fun...
Maybe making ice cream
is all i have to look
forward to, short term and longer???
Lemonade Stands
Missed / skipped the first one
Maybe Herndon dark liquid
not sure what was up with that,
and not ready to stop/ pause much by then,
kids saying it was because they were black?
Not really, but not turning around then,
after they said that...
Next one, two kids, Reston by a T stop,
Had two colors to choose from,
yellow and pink?
Bought 2, one of each color,
didn't seem to fill it up much,
asked for more,
mom nearby made change from a $5,
pace around a little too...
Little Library book thing nearby,
found something i might look at later...
As getting ready to go,
a guy came up and didn't have money,
not sure what his issue(s) was/were,
But bought one for him,
I had gotten one for free year(s) ago further in,
(check for link, around the time of the
iNoVA hospital killed a Hispanic man
and didn't even get his name right)
so Pay it ForeWard (sp?)/
BackWard (sp?),
whatever,
random acts of kindness
to strangers, and rather strange at that,
but what have horsey suburban to rural people
been thinking about me???
and left,
someone seemed to say
i dropped something,
and maybe the straw,
some problems after that,
attacked/ questioned from behind?
someone saw money and wanted more?
I'm guessing / he she/ they got arrested,
someone else, a biker,
had been standing nearby,
but not buying, and then disappeared,
i guess monitoring it,
and it probably got worse later,
some passing / departing comments on
drinking the profits like girl scout
cookies...
As far as the service,
extra ice was nice,
filled/ near over flowed,
sister/ brother team/ rivalry
guessing one each color
difficulty holding/
tilting the dispensing thing
(Aldi? had something like,
but Giant brand frozen lemonade,
so guessing not)
to get enough out,
ice is relatively cheap,
and most of what i want,
i have to weigh and guess how much
sugar I'm getting, cup to the blue line,
the mom said, the sister checked,
not there, which is only partially,
so cup size and leading one to think/feel,
short changed,
feeling of not a full cup,
not even half way,
but filled with ice better,
and what wanted,
just buying ice a problem,
a convenience (sp?) store
and get an Apu (sp?) problem
like Liberty gas in LeesBurg,
and likely elsewhere,
car centric don't want bikes
in store, selling gas, and
car attitude we are in the way,
thin isles with marketing stuff,
buy a 5-10 pound bag?
do what with the rest?
wasted?
shared?
get for a whole riding club?
team ride?
split a $3 bag of ice?
and all the water bottles,
give back, here is some ice,
lost in a cooler,
have to wait around for
all the others to come and
use up before it's all melted,
and/or not clean hands/ etc in it
and cleanliness?
Or soda fountain ice machines,
just buy a cup of ice,
if they will even sell that way,
extra cups,
BTW: i carried out my empties,
packed it out as campers say,
and saving labels for different things
Barqs tap at the BBQ place,
A&W can and Dominion bottle,
7-Up, large size Water Bottle, etc
plus snack food wrappers,
some stuff like BBQ and sides, etc
don't have specifics of what i ate,
could look up values,
how much fat in a typical
Mac n Cheese? Potato salad?
Mayo?
Weight of Brisket probably easier,
other food stuff have more variation(s)?
Anyways, another lemonade stand,
two teen/preteen/tween? girls unsupervised
near the next book Little Library thing,
i stop and get another,
but no place to weigh,
small amount of liquid,
only 3 cubes of ice,
seemed like attitude after the sale,
and stop at the bench
after spilling on the hill,
and suddenly cup flies off bench,
someone hit it?
me sitting down,
someone with a slingshot/ BB gun?
i had had enough,
but wanted comparison
amounts of how much for $1 / cup
cup size, wondering sugar content,
ice drink ratio,
some threats of put something in it,
teen attitude, unmonitored, or tethered by parents
nearby, if the connection dies, they are closed and
done for the day, long leash for kids,
i guess, data plan,
and voice unlimited on weekends?
Unsupervised and no one on site,
age dependent,
teens, and younger before,
competing and what is the same jurisdiction
doing penance for something, and have charges
reinstated?
Likely hate crimes near BuckThorne (sp?) again,
a problem of people being victimized along
the trail and elsewhere, wonder where the
security cameras and other protections
are, getting to be like FreedomRiders2014
and the old days and someone wanted credit
for "helping", just tells me they are not
professionals, and some twisted sick fuck
like person, spilling your drink, claiming
something in it, and wanting thanks for that?
Tone like the 1960's and Civil Rights,
can't eat at this counter, when it's a public
park bench, but don't like your type round here,
Saturday night, let's kills us a homeless
poor person / gay bashing, whatever,
hate crimes, climate environment...
Not that different than
Hate2017
and random attacks
mentioned elsewhere here,
don't want those people
stopping on our
bench, etc...
Game cameras might catch
some of these crimes, but might
be the hunter type people causing it,
too... Those that wear badges,
burn crosses, and similar song lyrics...
WoodChuck? Badger? and Deer
Long way back,
look down to my right,
and right there a badger/
woodchuck near me,
could have gotten my ankles,
told others oncoming, someone looking
in the drain nearby, maybe it's hide out
have babies in there/
IDK,
Luckily not bitten/ rabid?
Terrain generally down hill,
which helps,
but some straight aways too
and not much shade
but better than before?
more known to me areas...
Deer seen,
some larger groups/ clumps
much later in the day than i usually see,
so afternoon/ evening snack before bed?
Others gawking at them,
part of how i saw / knew to look for them,
me just trying to get home,
having opted to pedal it
instead of Bail to Rail (tm here?)...
One set? a dog was barking
I pass the young lady and leashed dog,
wondering if it's going to go after me too?
and say in friendly calming part joking like tone:
"Come on, leave the deer alone,
They live here, you're just visiting..."
or very similar...
Bad Stuff?
A fart that seems bad,
too wet somehow,
like run down my leg?
Difficult to tell,
a lot of sweat anyways,
but no smells, that i could tell,
I had eaten chicken with some skin/ fat,
black beans and some?
ice cream the night before,
so 24 hours later?
And/or ExLax (tm elsewhere) or similar
in the lemonade?
(thinking now aslo those are likely made with tap,
everything else has been from home filtered,
packaged, carbonated, etc...
Rich foods at the BBQ?
Finally sun stroke and heat catching up to me,
i know my skin is red, my face beyond that,
and sun exposure can do odd things,
especially to someone about a 2 on the
Hamilton (?)
FitzPatrick
scale, just a little above albino
as i think freckles put it lumped in with albino
at a 1?...
Something Pushing me Forward, Besides A/C & Bed: Ice Cream Supplies
Buy stuff to make more ice cream
about $5 for cream (how is whipping cream different?)
and half and half (mostly used for coffee adding?),
most contain stuff for not lumping up or something
in hot coffee, etc,
how to get just cream for ice cream making?
What to add to it?
Check on SpinMasterBoxerBot2019
all those discounted are gone,
none there at all, afaict,
so bummer...
But Target had the similar Whipping Cream
quart not pint size,
so try a different brand,
prices about the same, afaict...
Pickup up an Insulated bag
to get those home
$0.95 or so, at Aldi,
their cold making machine stuff on sale now,
but already got machine elsewhere,
and red, Coke branded, etc...
Soda, cheap Root Beer, house brand,
$3 for 12 pack, later see has high fructose
corn syrup... How to strap on 12 cans
inner tubes on the touring rack on back?
So many of the decisions
quick purchases are a bummer,
wanting to get stuff done while out,
as won't want to ride for a while,
but hurting, some call Baboon Butt
as abrasive bike shorts,
even the thicker padding
but more to abrade (sp?),
chafing i think it's called
and likely a saddle like balm exists,
but i don't do long distances enough,
might look into some other time...
Balance that with some Root Beer Floats?
which i haven't had in ages...
Much less made, decades before that...
Sweeps?
Ran across some fast skinny tire people,
"You're coming back from KGMR?"
"Yes", my quick answer,
"You rode the whole thing?"
"Yes", (LeesBurg, no rail)
but added dropped ride marshaling,
and they didn't stick around
to hear my reply kind of a hit and run,
we have something for you,
what? stop in?
limited time offer?
Somewhat FU attitude seemed,
age difference, paired male with female,
millennials?
verbally trapped by surprise questions,
from unknown different kinds of bikers,
typical and why i may not support them
much anymore...
And have/had to do an Alt...

Organized Rides are a PITA
Long rides are literally a PITA...
Some things like training might help that?
Changing the equipment is one option,
for some,
changing the rider,
maybe more difficult?
Time Limits
Not sure the hours of the ride,
think it was over 1.30 ish for planned
6.45 am start,
so pacing and stops,
me taking over an hour out
mid way for some personal stuff,
and then eating, and many
pretend and actual shopping

Arrived back around 6.15 pm
to a closed shop, and nothing in the plaza
where it stared,
so all over, maybe moved the party elsewhere,
IDK, don't care much either...

Conclusion
Summary of experience or similar
Did some of my wonder if i can /
bucket list? stuff,
that i had not gotten around to
since last year's
KGMR2018
like ride to LeesBurg,
not take MetroRail back
and comparing riding with people
and without, somewhat for comparison...
Tried the Carolina Brothers Pit BBQ place
as had seen but not had the money to even try it,
before, not that i did this year, but juggling,
again...
Net effect uncertain,
some data for
WODAppIdear2018
MungedMetaData2017
and other stuff...
Not sure if I will get to Purcellville (sp?)
something, likely off (warm) season,
but not a lot of reason to be out that direction,
and less than before...
Wondering about a BBQ tour ride,
sampling BBQ at various places,
some eating each place, but not stuffing
face each place, best of
sort of thing...
I used to do personal Ice Cream Rides,
sampling those too...
Already do
Tour de Harris Teeter,
Tour de Aldi,
Tour de Thrift Stores,
etc...
Sometimes it motivated me to get out,
and somewhat social while there,
and burn of what all i was eating,
maybe, not doing the math on it,
calories, ingredients, miles, hills, temp,
weight of the bike, me, stuff, etc...
And running to the bathroom afterwards,
some sun stroke/ heat exhaustion type possible,
but different food(s), water sources
(lemonade made with filtered?),
etc...
Didn't cramp up, pretzel like,
overnight,
shower before bed,
and then bath the next day,
and writing this up to dump it before
going on to other things,
like maybe
IceCreamBooks/Machine,
etc
And/or just time off/ weekend,
self care...
Might be good, idk...
Sugar high while writing may not be the best,
as made the ice cream, writing while thawing
bowl, and froze two containers,
no root beer float(s), yet, maybe not...
Lots of baking butterscotch and white morsels
don't suspend, in basically
watery milkshake before freezing,
consistency, and mix in by hand?
flat paddle on a cold / frozen slab of granite?
Cold Stone style?
Who did Mixins?
Ben & Jerry's?
stores, not packaged?
And it if was seemed tiring and long to read
imagine how it was to actually be there
and ride it, all?
YMMV
Discussion
A place for feedback on the page presented
What makes a good ride to you?
Bragging rights of how far you went?
How red you butt is afterwards/
A pretzel shape you turn into cramping overnight,
and/or during the ride?
Charlie horse something you enjoy?
Is it like marathon runners,
the high?
Challenging the Wall at the end?
And/or Just PT, and have to do some anyways...
Are Trail side concessions/
attractions/ distractions/ etc
worth the risk?
Here today, gone tomorrow,
don't even know who is selling to you,
what food prep, water source, etc
is being used?
Are they regulated, at all?
Monitored?
Insured?
For me wildlife,
does that do anything for you?
And/or are they merely targets
you have to get back to,
in season?
In what ways do you give back?
Why?
Why Not?
