Surviving the holiday weekend, any way I could...

Memorial Day Meanings
So Memorial Day is for the people who died in combat,
originally Confederate and Union Soldiers who's graves
went in to disrepair, some people got together collectively
and started remembering those that served, and died...
Veteran's Day is another similar holiday,
but for those that served and didn't die,
at least in combat...
Rolling Thunder

skipping the year, wasn't good, and trying to get
thru it without moto, as BabyNeedsNewShoes2016
and similar profiteering by dealerships, the industry,
etc...
Pedaling thru the DC area with a combination
of my personal bike, with the usual homeless
appearing baggage, and some days on
girlish rental bike(s), saw groups of bikers
(read moto) parked, launching and
roaring thru Georgetown, and other places,
eventually going to a bicycle
mechanical clinic at a farmer's market,
and
DownGrading TheBikeHouse
Unfortunately, some things have happened
there, and with some people, that I must
downgrade the organization, from a
Recommended, to a Caution...
While I had higher hopes for a more
flat organization, similar to peers,
instead of hierarchy, my voice
has been silenced, and I'm not even
recognized for showing up,
while continually attacked, ostracized and
a lot of hatred, similar to other places,
YMMV, and there are some good people there,
but the bad is outweighing the good, so
not so sure I'd think others would have
a good experience there...
Mileage
Estimating doing about 100 miles that
long weekend, and serious problems
in the heat, basically some
of the stuff I was writing about in
RocheAccuChekAvivaConnect2017
and haven't determined heat, blood sugar,
heart, and other stuff... Ruling out blood
sugar, attacks by people with crack,
herion (sp?), marijuania (sp?) and other
legal and illegal (illicit) stuff, might help,
but being ridiculed doesn't really help that
either...
Taking the time to serve others, even
when many of the regulars are on
vacay and then not really being
respected, isn't what I had hoped...
Maybe that was what it was like
for Vietnam draftees to be spit on
returning as baby killers, etc...
In a more domestic milder version?
Drinkers
One of the problems with holidays
and traveling, especially by bicycle,
and moto, is that people tend to drink
more on holidays, plus the rush, extra
traffic, beginning of summer, student drivers,
schools letting out, (colleges out, H.S. prom,
etc). Normally, I would not be bicycling and
stay in more, but no donated food
because of the holiday, an opportunity
came up, and I went, adding more miles
to the long weekend... Weather cooperated,
riding between the raindrops, and didn't
get that overheated, by going early,
and a little bit stealthy, but not entirely
cloaked (a techie term)...

Picked up a donated book while volunteering
but not recognized in the report(s),
and a couple of others previously,
this one thinking it would be
trashy, and a particular chapter
made a lot of sense to me...
In general, it is a rather privileged
woman, Catholic, a journalist,
who goes to graduate school
(following a boy to London?)
after private boarding? school(s),
writing for well respected
news outlets, and deciding on
epidemiology, or what she calls
markets as sex and drugs,
i.e. studying AIDS...
The book is a difficult read, given I've
lost a relative to AIDS, and he's on
The Quilt, but it was long ago, and catching
up on some of the history, of the epidemic,
politics, the AIDS Industry with Big Pharm,
starting with Tobacco, and other public
health concerns, I can see some reasons
why my father went into the field...
And his difficult life as a contractor...
I've only read parts of the book,
and have two others, one a more
legalistic text book on censorship
and sex, (also thought might be trashy)
and more uplifting, and upstanding
a History of Western Philosophy,
rather dense and academic...

Pretty Bad feelings all around...
But at least I didn't stay in and get more
depressed by not going anywhere...

Crossing over the Interstate, from the trail,
a bunch of people were gathered to see
the motorcycles coming into town,
many of them children, with some
adults as well... I had someone point
a camera at me, likely a streaming one,
and asked questions,
verbally abused, harassed, and threatened,
and had to point my head down,
and say I would likely ram them if they
kept recording, as I could not see where
I was going while bicycling past without looking
at them...
Not all people how die in service do it honorably...
Statistically, it would be improbable for all
of the people to have been good.
Would the details be swept under the rug,
as secrets for service, and letting the families
think they served honorably? Probably...
Children may have a simplistic
black and white thinking
of idealism, to think that all are good,
or all are bad...
By analogy, consider the statements
All White People are Good
(it was the suburbs...).
And All Black People are Bad..
Now Try and Refute It...
As a person of one colour, OR the other,
and then consider we are all descended
from African, if history and the global
migrations are correct...
So as one is told/ taught,
in Bachelors' Degree:
you learn the terms,
Masters: you learn everything
there is to know about it, and
Ph.D.: you find it's not necessarily so...
Apply that down to Pre-K,
kindergarden (sp? d->t?) ,
elementary, middle, junior high,
and senior high schools too,
and a lot of details are left out,
even without say racially/ ethnically
biased, revisionistic
and simplistic trainings/
educational systems...

Do you justify it as served as a medic
instead and could not carry a weapon?
Would a scalpel then be a weapon?
Who to cut and "save" (notice religious
overtones) and who you don't have time for,
because of the colour of their skin,
uniform, or just too busy
saving your own hide?
Where does the anger and hatred come from?
The Media?
The Parents?
Society?
Or has it always been there, and only can
be released, when all get together
and beat up collectively on other subgroups,
(say the yellow man?) while hiding secrets,
other groups and the public would not approve of...?
Does Agent Orange solve anything?
What problems are left behind by it?
