QBBQ2013

Introduction/Definition/etc

Had reason to be in Glen Allen, VA, a northern suburb

of Richmond, VA and stopped in at Q BBQ,

one of 4 or so sites in the Greater Richmond area,

not that I could tell the name from the symbol,

not quite a smiley symbol,

and describe an experience there...

Body

Following a disappointing visit to a country club type resort,

where registration couldn't get it together for me to stay,

a money thing really, where anonymity might have worked,

but was against the rules, or policy, ironically...

So with attitude go into the local BBQ

place in a strip mall type thing, near Route 1,

in Hanover County, IIRC....

Police had closed Interstate 95 due to an accident,

each ramp shut down, and southbound traffic going

off to Route 1, 5 mile backup at the time, not

sure if people were alive nor dead, and in rather bad rain at times,

but kept going, so wearing some foul weather gear,

and looking OK for me, but baggy, a ripped out seam on the accessory bag,

not yet replaced, like a lot of things...

Try ordering with a tough looking guy, split beard and something about balding

hair? seemed to have attitude towards me,

knew me, or claimed to know me, not sure how,

So they had bulk Pint and Half Pint containers, and he wants to give me attitude,

they don't have pricing for pints/ half pints of side dishes, I can't find them

on the menu type system, but there it is...

He must be a Harley guy?  Lost his bike and seemed to want to know where

I was keeping my bike,

Why don't I just go home? he says, which isn't welcoming at all

to travelers, or any human being...

Conversation goes to what I think of him,

all beside the point of ordering food,

they have a liquor license, for beer only,

a selection of crap, really, but had Dominion Root Beer,

the local brew, AFAICT, in a case of bottles with labels hard

to read, but if you know it, you recognize it,

Key Lime pie, but didn't want to spend too much,

nor on a drink, have to eat the take out , out,

so well FU, really, was the gist of the conversation,

no utensils out, so can't even take out and eat out,

some park nearby, or rest stop or something,

so had to take it all the way home, hours later

in the rain and increasing traffic, to complete

the negative experience, and well, will have to stop

back in at the tourism / travel / welcome center and

let the guy know what one is to expect, as well

as you, the gentle reader, when shopping in some areas,

not Mazza Galleria, in NW DC, not Tyson's Corner,

in McLean, VA, just attitude, similar to the VDOT,

though helpful guy doing cleanup at the welcome

center found some clear trash bags, my joke

being cleanup on Aisle 95 if I don't figure it out,

the low brow foul weather gear is trash bags,

some even use them on their feet, mine getting

wet, the boots not dry, so using bike shoes,

and well ending up wet, the spray from vehicles,

trucks in particular and people don't understand

we can turn our heads to the side, (learn at track)

to clear the rain, helmet shape depends, we still

have another hand, left usually ,some gloves have

a windshield type wiper thingie on the thumb,

but as long as keep moving not much different than

a cage (aka car).

I may have ended up challenging him to ride at TrackDays2012

mentioning women are allowed in for $100/ day,

and he wants to know what we are challenging for,

for giggles I say,, but that wasn't good enough for him,

Probably a comment about seeing him at the range,

and I got a biker's welcome, or a Texan welcome,

someone comes out from the back and steps in the

conversation, he leaves and someone else does my food,

said it was OK...

The Have a Nice Day outside seemingly after I was leaving had

tried to find the bathroom, also utensils while waiting, Non Existent,

a few seated people in the area of Virginia Center,

over I95 to a gated community, and a golf course, not my cup of tea,

nice enough for others, but another example of RetailDiscrimination2012

so he may have been Fired, and I said I was going to Write About It,

so here you have it.  AMF

Conclusion

Summary of experience or similar

Ended up sick, ate the food when I got home and felt bad,

not sure if it was the 5 hours on a bike in the rain,

some other times I would bicycle to there,

take the weekend, early week really, and do what I've

done before bicycle to Richmond, have a calming effect,

there was Civil War battle field signs, and a couple

of bikers I paced a bit, 15 MPH going up a hill, good

pace, not that I could 200 miles by Bicycle Route 1,

the Train station and other stuff looked familiar,

from the trip back in 2004 or so, now going on 10 years,

and lots of miles, 30k on the motorcycle, having done

SpringBreak2013 and Sturgis2013

some of my favorite stops were food, the little

Farmer's Market near Key West out of the Everglades

and a frozen dairy place in Murdo? type name

,SD?

Well, this wasn't it, we know you, and don't like you,

and well, that costs you a job, server, counter help,

and well it's not far from what I normally get,

but here is what you get for doing that to someone

who is having a bad day, and discrimination abounds,

why spread it around even more?

Discussion

A place for feedback on the page presented

What is your worst customer service experience?

Best?

Why?

How do you treat fellow human beings, even when

having a bad day?   Do you make them laugh?

Are you paid to be there?

Or just helping people out, whether they are the type

of people you would associate with at home,

in clinics, or on the track, or not...
