RPi3in2016

Introduction/Definition/etc

Raspberry Pi Foundation released the third Raspberry Pi single board computer (SBC) in it's Fourth Year Anniversary, now 64 bit ARM, but no software really can handle it yet...

Body

While I had intended to do technical stuff with this board started from a NVRPP Website Proposal, back in the day, well before RPi came out, I ended up writing drivel on the web instead, so back to my roots, as it were...

Pine64 and other boards exist, and worth comparing, say like WearableCameras2015 , ActionCameras2015 , Tablets2015 and other comparisons, both formal and informal...

Accessibility uses probably exist, much like for tablets, but making custom stuff, has it's risks and rewards...

Given Bluetooth and WiFi built in, maybe GoogleEar2014 minus the GDrug...

Packaging work is probably needed, as integrating and safety testing stuff, is a challenge, like making it dust proof, drop proof, and water resistant...

And harder challenges, making it Kid Proof...

Much less Theft Proof...

What battery packs could be used?

Solar power?

On Grid?

Off Grid?

International?  Say to http://www.autscape.org/

and/or BabyPenguin2014 back to the AntArtic to see real penguins in their natural habitat(s)?

Or Alaska to see Polar bears, up close and personal, maybe like http://MicroShip.com

Eh, Pailin ??

See Ruskies/Canada/Artic Circle from here?

Charging thru the screen?

Like some watches and new stuff coming out, display is useful place to double as an energy source...

and/or ADVMotoRally2014 AdvMotoRally2015  +/- 1...

As announcement(s) was/were leap year specific, 4 year plan, instead of the usual 5, like 4WheelsBad2WheelsGood3WheelsMaybe

AVeteransSonLaughsAndSpitsAtMe2011

or just geek fantasies?

Conclusion

Summary of experience or similar

I don't actually have one in hand, so haven't tried it, but might theoretically be useful, replacing some older ones, that eventually stop working, because of various reasons, not quality control, just year(s) of use and abuse...

So dedicate older ones to test monkeys, and see what fries, as the smoke test(s) are limited...

(as they say, only so much smoke in a board/ chip/ piece of electronics, before it don't smoke no more...

much less run / operate/ be any fun to play with, besides as a hockey puck... )

Pine64 and others  is/ are worth looking at, as well as the software support for running 64 bit, as it may be a while, hopefully those developing, actively, have them and get a head start...

Head Start pun intended...

Discussion

A place for feedback on the page presented

What does a little computer do for little ones?

Compared to a smart phone?

How old do you have to be before investing $40 + accessories on something most would consider a toy, worth while?

How much risk would you take in attaching electronics circuits, you designed and built, to say a $1k laptop?

$300 NetBook?   $2 thrift store desktop...?  $0 FreeCycle found art / doorstop self refurbished notebook?

What are the electronics skills you could learn by using one?

Developing for it?

What if the tooth fairy, Easter Bunny/ mythical creature of great renowned, besides Harvey the 6 foot invisible rabbit, nor the goth and/or scary versions, dropped one in your in box, and you had to get up to speed quickly, to be a productive member of the community, instead of a geek delinquent?

Learning something besides how to play games, and word process/ surf/ watch videos?

What summer jobs make sense with one of these?

Who pays for that?

Who doesn't pay for that?

Why?

and Why Not?
