Introduction/Definition/etc
ReelAbilitiesFilmFestival
a disabilities film festival,
running over a couple weeks,
early/ mid March,
but all at night,
so missed all of them,
continue for part of the whys...
Body
Original Text
Somehow I heard about it,
turns out to be national,
travels around,
and some real production abilities,
think BFF10
minus international?
adrenaline/ endorphin, etc
though there was a para Olympics type
film near the end...
Signup procedures used
BrownPaperTickets
and wanted a lot of personal information,
way too much in my opinion,
like address,
phone number, etc
i guess helping to return you to home,
if there is a problem...
(No emergency contact though...)
And personal shared with the host,
have to consent to that, i almost
just stopped there,
i probably should have...
At that point, having told no one
I'd signed up for it,
and not written about it,
someone(s) approached me about
giving me a ride/trying to get me to take
a stray/adopt a dog,
i guess walking from the shelter (no kill?)
and other stalking like stuff,
better than selling someone elses' pet,
but still in bad form, which the dog/ puppy
had little/ nothing to do with, afaict...
I'd need a service animal, currently
and way more resources (space/money/ food, etc)
than i have, to adopt one...
Even the Foster training instance,
never done and don't remember the page name,
way too clever, for my own good...
taking in a small human,
or just learning about it
another FAIL...
Bad weather/ snow? storm on the
Sunday opening night,
and I hadn't originally gotten a ticket
to that one, as cost money,
some email about waitlist
and send it in/ back if not used,
(Weather advisories later that Sunday
said don't go out, stay off the roads)
but later tried forwarding/sending
the only option was to phone it
to someone else, which sent, afaict,
but the surprised person
i guess just ignored it,
here's a free ticket, last minute
(few hours on a weeknight, iirc),
only one, drop someone else there?
and i got no response, at all...
Most free ones were far out,
relative to Arlington,
suburbs/suburgatory,
JewishComunityCenter,
and FairFax County schools,
the one in Fairfax,
(others were more even remote
for me: Reston, Oakton, etc)
i had the most energy,
started out late, library stop,
librarian way too nosy,
and delayed me further,
sabotaging, it seemed,
and some evesdropping,
er typically monitoring? moms
saying they were going,
...)
risking dark, largely unknown areas,
and social situation even worse
One in Reston, at one of the community
centers, there are a few, btw,
at night, and how to get back,
rail only option, .ow funds,
social situation, how to park,
bring in the bike=wheelchair like
reasonable accommodation,
and contact ahead by weeks,
not done, didn't happen,
wanted to, had some energy,
but not a 20 mile each way
in the dark, and lost
etc... Some adventure to it,
signed up, no real way
say never mind, use with those
waiting, last minute, will call,
etc...
Started to think that further out
was renting/ paying for the film
and location(s) and further in didn't
have the money, and only one topic,
so first was Intellectual Disabilities,
kind of a love story with Down's Syndrome
or similar, not exactly my disability
interest, Autism Spectrum Disorder,
maybe, no films since
MozartAndTheWhale
(can't find, likely elsewhere
PBWorks deleted / reclaimed my wiki...)
WretchesAndJabberersMovie2011
was one I went to, likely cost,
and at a regular theatre during the day,
heard about and went, some autie/aspies
i knew were there, but can not say
BFF10
was all day, several days in a row,
I had MetroAccess at the time,
and commuting into DC
likely part of it,
winter time, storms likely
and a tradition, one year Navy Museum
on Pennsylvania Ave,
another Columbia Heights towards Petworth,
at the Gala theatre,
inter coop rivalries and local dicks,
made it unpleasant,
last year of it, in DC,
lots of drinking, not me,
but more obnoxious than usual,
and took some of the fun out of it,
for me...
So DocsInProgressFilmFestival2010
I don't remember much Takoma Park
iirc, and saw something, stadium type
theatre, i recall..
Green(Film)Festival, I think i saw one/
went, but not much recall, convention
center triple tandem or similar,
as shuttle from bike parking valet
to the Convention Center,
that memorable, iirc,
but maybe didn't write it up,
So it's possible, and opening Night
say Friday, long night many films,
but back for another day or two,
some activities in the meantime,
BMX doing tricks under 395 in
Capital Hill, i seem to recall,
Coop tabled there, also,
bikes, bikes, bikes...
BikeProm, not been to,
but not really a Prom type,
Alt yes, Prom, no...
So some ways, would have been
good, no real way to see if missed,
BikeChannel didn't really happen,
afaict, can't buy a DVD
of the films and only trailers
out, so what is it good for,
in the long run,
SunDance or some other festival?
limited engagement, get your film
out and known, and only a few showings?
Hoping for a big distribution deal,
to garner attention and resources,
break even on it, by someone pays
something, renting a place, the film,
etc?
Student projects, like
MICA at RobotFest2016
and Oscars, Emmy's etc time of year,
post Valentine's Day
and i guess dating option(s) for go see
a film in the winter time, not much options
for outdoor except maybe skiing and
ice skating on the National/PentagonCity mall,
or something...
Modified Text
What's Missing?
Morning time showings...
What Can Be Found?
Many disability themes,
types of disabilities,
and creativity, i guess
i didn't make it...
A resource/ trade show like
thing, tabled organizations,
most of which i don't want to
visit/ see think
TheMindFuckThatIsArcOfNOVA2012
and some of those issues...
What Can Not Be Found?
Morning/ early, non nite time showings...
How To Analyze?
Lenses
MorningPeople
TravelIssues
OldPeople
NonStudents
Old people, relatively going to
High School(s), Jewish Community
Centers, church(es)
and other Community Centers
which are out of area,
not their belief,
not a parent, etc
so a little fish out of water,
besides don't know much about
the social environment,
much less film from a trailer,
at most, about it...
No other reviewers,
and look ahead possible,
that I could find...
Students
Have to go there again?
Isn't the mandatory times,
so early bad enough
you gotta take our evenings
and weekends too?
More people to make fun of,
and on our home turf...
I guess it's part of some assignment,
community service hours,
get something done for others,
we have one of those disability types
in our school, so maybe it's a court
thing, for all the bad stuff we did
wrong?
Assumptions
Films show the best in people, no?
Drawing attention to something always
makes it better, right?
All disabilities are basically the same,
so one cancels out the other, right?
Everyone is an evening person,
why (real) theatres are only open
at night...
Time Limits
Evening only dates
Plan ahead, as sold out...
Money and time, as some premium
opening and closing night tickets
were in the $15 range, iirc
but somehow not in the budgeting
time frame with other personal demands/
wants like

AldiCantFind2019
Links
You could probably do the leg/foot/
mouse/touchpad work/effort
of finding ReelAbilities
as that is likely still around,
some reviews may be up,
and YouTube Trailers
read teasers are probably still up...
But that takes effort,
which i don't really have after these
other things, to put up here,
and rest, also would be good
/_DogAteMyHomeWorkTypeExcusesHere_
Recent WaPo article on a High School
in Maryalnd
where there was a ranking list of girls
by the boy(s), which caused a #MeToo
reaction, and made the paper(s)...
I guess geeks making who do i ask
to prom / FantasyFootBall like decisions?
Conclusion
Summary of experience or similar
Missed all of them (~5+?), free,
and no real way to say never mind,
use with people there and waiting,
so prejudging or the process
and/or environment is part of the problem,
not solution, at least for me...
Discussion
A place for feedback on the page presented
What time frames would work for you?
What low stim/ candy/ popcorn/
local exchange type rental from library systems
would work for you?
On reserve at libraries?
Interlibrary loans?
Numbers of copies?
On Reserve, or multiple showings
at regular times?
Mandatory sentences/ assignments,
mandatory class(es) etc to
make people go to them,
therefore taking the fun out of
absolutely everything
in teen age students lives?
