Introduction/Definition/etc
Trying hidden page security until done,
or close to it,
or night fall...
So SugarLabs Live
aka Sugar on a Stick
Fedora spin,
burning some DVDs of the software,
if the parents and kids have an extra USB stick,
they can learn to install it on that,
to run faster,
reuse as much as they like,
and maybe eventually learn to install
on the hard drive of the
HPProBook645In2018
and other similar legacy hardware,
PC class machines pre
NetBook, which OLPC XO-1 defined,
now about 10 years ago...
(see historical photo(s) and link)
and Raspberry Pi 3B+ does some of
now, in a more open way, but still
BroadCom ARM and SOC lockin...

Original Text
So maybe the trick is learning,
a challenge to get the treats of trying
new software, games, etc in a learning
environment developed, back in the day,
for educational use with children
in least developed countries (read poor)
where the cost of a laptop was prohibitive,
so the $100 laptop would help with that....
Some criticism was that they needed food,
infrastructure like sanitation, etc instead
of technology, but MIT and others,
being what they are (read geeks),
worked on developing the new
NetBook class hardware, a light
(though physically kind of heavy)
cheap portable, kid friendly hardware,
eInk display that works in sunlight,
in black and white mode,
and software (turned into SugarLabs
and runs on non OLPC hardware...,
forking when M$ entered the picture,
iirc)

What's Missing?
What Can Be Found?
What Can Not Be Found?
How To Analyze?
Lenses
Kids
ages:
youngest,
first computer
using it
mid range kids,
some mastery,
if bother to learn it,
first world:
historical and tech loving
kids
others:
the challenges of competing
demands
technology, both good and bad,
and some skills in this may help,
Constructionist theory,
activity aka doing is good,
commonly marketed like Making
and DIY, arts and crafts like building
mostly electronics, and modifying,
learning how things work,
hacking, but not cracking (security exploits,
and black hat/ white hat stuff)
Assumptions
Kids get something
Maybe not what they wanted/
traditionally get/ expect
(candy), but technically named Sugar
append Labs and learning and stuff...
Connectivity might not be necessary,
still some things to learn about direct wired
on the wifi system...
Build your own:
Instructions here for those that have other
things to do, and want to follow along at home,
less interactions, door knocking , intrusions,
etc for me, an old guy who will probably be
asleep by then anyways...
Missing the cute qualifying costumes,
but wearing stuff myself, day to day,
fashion nightmare that several people
start saying you look like (trails off
as they realize what they are saying
is not nice, and they catch themselves,
or parents/caregivers do for them...
Time Limits
Today is Halloween October 31st, 2018
and approaching evening time
though preparation may take all day to make
this clear enough to understand why
someone getting a DVD of the software,
handed to them, what do I do with this,
and maybe a link to this page,
would figure it out, eventually?
Will See...
Candy turn in noticed, by rsvp
at MosaicFarmersMarket2018
from Central's website...
Rationing out sweets, a long learning
curve, to get to see it work, and sugar
highs, crashes, etc, along the critical
path/ timeline, as they say, soon,
but while doing all that, and end of month,
start of new month, but before elections
break, etc...
Other goodies, likely needed, the USB stick,
and RPi3B+ hardware, accessories, etc
for continuing along the path to digital
FreeDom...
Conclusion
Summary of experience or similar
Yet, to see any response,
how to hand them out, walk around then disappear,
leave on door(s), of known kids nearby,
and other ways of doing that while retaining
privacy, and non swarmed by kids and
only burn a few DVDs...
Knowing a few got HPProBook645In2018
so some directions here may apply rather
directly, others may need to modify
and learn more...
Discussion
A place for feedback on the page presented
Is it a prank to use trojan mouse type
stuff on kids?
Does reversing the roles of trick or treating
make sense?
To whom?
Geeks only?
Everyone?
Why didn't you just give them sugar?
Regular candy?
Where are my scary DIY sounds?
Isn't that place just a big haunted house anyway?
We want to trick you anyways,
old white guy, we hate those people,
well, hate is bad, Santa and others
are listening and making lists of naughty
and nice, so payback, or the lack there of,
happens over the next couple months,
so you better watch out, you better not shout,
and other jingle/jungle type sounds,
creepy and crawly and other issues
abound anyways...
