So someone asks for a cable,
Apple cable, and wants to charge an iPhone,
i don't have my bags of things,
and not an Apple Person,
currently, so a brick (TransFormer),
car adapter, (might be built into cars,
Cigarette Lighters may be a thing of the past,
but maybe not,

but there are reasons i would try to
figure it out...
Without getting too personal,
it would be fun but i'm not that

i wanted to take a walk, warm up,
and stretch my legs,

I eventually do a history
showing the Apple cable i had,
not Lightning (it turns out) but big,
more data parallel,
goes to USB likely USB2.0 or so,
I've got USB3 with an odd double like thing
two power regular A? connectors,
there is a B, iirc it's more like the Printer
odd shaped boxy,
works with Arduino, iirc,
I've had FireWire,
not that big a fan,
but been a while,
Apple is expensive,

not Open Source,
not Open Hardware,
but at least it's not M$,
good in some ways,

While the IBMPC was a few regular

4800, 9600, etc...
and D connectors, with pins 2 and 3
being data,
charging wasn't really done with those
while USB typically is a power and
data cable...
making special cables for things,
switching pins 2&3 made a Null Modem
cable, as no modem was involved
and say transfer things locally,
without using the good old/ Bad
Ma Bell...
Printers may have a parallel and
a serial interface, serial easier for
stuffing down long pipes to remote
places, and parallel, for well, not confusing
cables with the other one,
but as things got smaller don't want
to take that much space,
a whole adapter card for a parallel board,
or MotherBoard has to take up all that space,
D connectors were 25 pins, and 9 Pins,
some of us soldered, later move pins
around without soldering,
and don't really care,
but some special cables, there is/was

standards exist for a reason
and i seem to recall the EU
was after Apple to change from
Lightning to USB-C
so finally seeing a Lightning connector(s)
a male type plug with gold pins exposed
instead of a female housing in a male plug,
like USB-C, even in the dark,
without a light on, could tell it's different,
and using a work type computer,
you still might get a staffer to clean up
the tracks/ cookies/ etc forensics,
basically of plugging in a laptop
a work laptop to charge a
personal cell/ smart phone,
easier for me with Linux to find
information about it than the M$ world,
but booting over to Linux Live CD

Having used Xerox hardware
for a bit, they weren't into selling
software, like MaBell wasn't into
doing operating systems,
Unix as secondary to the main
business of selling connections...
My motives were questioned,
impolite even for me,
why would you buy those?
the USBC i would be able to use,

and basically because of what
i had already said,
it's good to have a spare,
buy cheaper than $50 for the set,
the mix and match,
and learning what's currently out there,
I don't need to have the latest iPhone
to feel good about myself,
having something and learning how iOS
works well enough,
and not so well enough,
iPads were checked out from the school/
college library,
OLPC XO we considered, guessing they
would just destroy them and ended up
more Ivory Tower in DC,
$100 book, $200 really, is a lot to check
out of a public library, the hardware/
repair center(s) even child/ teen run
were supply problems,

i may not have gone as far with it as

but a RPi1, 2 is not bad to learn on,
don't think it's a full LapTop,

and the kid size keyboard,
touchpad problems,
learning Linux, Fedora to be specific
and flashing the ROM/
install process, even the Pong

For someone who kept me busy
while my mother wandered around
the building disoriented looking for her
son, and played hide and seek,
on a surprise visit, it's not too far
to call it torture, not full waterboarding,
but given i'd said she'd never even bothered
to visit, maybe she tried,
but didn't sound too good,
and unexpected/ surprise visits,
giving other problems,
not recommended,
and likely not even answered...
a lot like visits i'd made and
didn't find...
