Introduction/Definition/etc
Beta came out in the form of an ISO file
downloadable (wouldn't do it on a cell data plan,
wifi takes hours, might need a big free pipe)
and burn to a DVD
(would be nice to be able to do it without
making a one time use plastic disc
but not there
even the PageName is a problem as
the naming convention is 20.04
the dot is a problem YY.MM
YYYY.MM is clearer
but PBWorks PageNames thinks it's a URL
so had to drop the Period (.)
but went to devel version, ahead of release
by a few weeks,
and luckily still have a running system...
The gory abridged details below...

Following
Ubuntu1904OnHP2019
Ubuntu1910EE2019
now on to FF
Frickin Failure/Flaws
or whatever i might rename it to,
it's beta, when packaged up for
testing by people to find bugs/
problems before general release,
getting it early though took a
sudo update-manager --devel
or similar
used to be easier somehow
graphically
sudo apt get update && sudo apt get dist-upgrade
or similar
is a usual upgrading software,
but a Dist is something different
and going into settings on the graphical interface
to include what to look for
BackUps
I had backed up
which took a long time
as 20 Gig in Pictures
and then could not compress that
as needed another 20 Gig working storage
to get that made,
uploading that
wanted to make a link to gDrive
from a custom script i wrote to do such
things some time ago,
tired of doing the same things
over and over again,
and needing backups
but never really finishing it,
build a machine to spec,
software wise,
and what packages do i usually
add to a Vanilla distro?
emacs
xemacs
emacs-gtk
for journal script
bin/journal
bin/journal.py
updated to
"Personal Journal
Date
on Ubuntu 2020.04 HP
or similar
header to 2020.04
DayOfWeek:"
my playing with Python
scripting the usual starting of a day
journal to myself local files
in a
createyear.sh
shell script to make directories
to save things
and needing backups
usually saved
initialsMachineAddHereYY/
initialsMachineAddHereYYMM
which helps keep the months together
and 00 MM helps for condensing
was a bug, now a feature
not used much
but there
so Move.sh
script looks for
bin
games log files in there too
but getting to be more
Legacy2019
gkwHP20/gkwHP2004/
processing after i'm gone
uploading the pages up here
and example of what processing
would need to be updated,
PBWorks,com needs updates
or the get rid of the workspace..
so occasional updates keeps this going,
while gDrug wants money, monthly
could be done yearly,
i end up buying gPlay cards
and redeem the codes
across the different accounts
some want/ need TeraBytes
mostly photos, screen saves now
competing with actual photos,
and splitting them would make sense,
one to one account and actual photos
on another so two TeraByte accounts
big accounts for video and stills,
and smaller accounts
only $2/ month so buy a $10 card
and good for say 5 months at a time,
no photos to speak of after the 15Gig
free space per account is filled,
rather easily a couple memory cards
(back when they were small 8Gig)
from photos and/or video clips
and that's filled...
Now 32Gig is common and would fill
an account with one card,
if photos/ video backed
usually Android device to gDrug
account...
Anyways, Ubuntu had a spin/
what Fedora calls it
say for OLPC OneLapTopPerChild
the T is silent in CamelCase
anyways
F30 or so now
30 releases since going from RedHat 6
or 7 that is started with,
on to 10 and started calling it Fedora
CentOS or similar their corporate
spun off to be the free version,
but not keeping up with the desktop,
more server market...
So each distro has many different
paths/ parts,
Core
InterNetOfThings (IOT)
and now some Container
for Cloud stuff
so running on an instance in the cloud
for Virtualization little machines
on rack servers, rented for likely cheap,
and doesn't violate likely home connectivity
and can get to from the interWebs
instead of the usual Down mostly
from Home, some Up and needing security,
web services, file services
print services gone by the wayside
used to be able to save a PDF of a
page up here but even FireFox changed
Nightly so that is more difficult
but better page link saving, don't load all
pages, and can be a timeline through URLs
more, and save most of what you look up,
an occasional review of where i've been,
that way, but loading all those pages
on the move/ walking around, say
find a free wifi and have too look something
up, opening times, gMaps route planning
weather looks bad, what is the radar,
forecast, is it going to dump rain here?
price comparisons? etc...
Would have been good to do with the
water filtering/ purification, had i stopped
to think much...
So it bombed part way through,
non responsive, no menu items capable
to get it keep going
and ended up doing a Control-C
leaving your system in an inconsistent/unstable
state,
risky but had to,
and luckily got a
Alt-Function1-4-7-10 etc
console
rebooted
back to older release grub menu item
initramfs not created and sickening
blinking cursor, have i bricked my machine
i didn't even burn the DVD of the Beta
I took hour(s) to download
and that was after the backup uploading
took hour(s)...
and was able to
sudo dpkg --configure -a
and continue
some console like front end
wanting selecting which services
to restart
as a server and some workstation stuff
daemons exist (headless like programs
which do things in the background
keeping things working,
can't think of one right now
gdm gnome display manager?
the boring stuff on startup
Plymouth boot up process
new world flashy screen stuff
used to be Fedora, but i guess got on
Debian/Ubuntu eventually,
and it all looks different starting up
the menuing
Grub and power on looks familiar
but after that more flash,
maybe OLPC like easy
and a spinning wheel
which stopped before i got a photo of it,
documenting some of it with stills from
a smartphone in case something
really bad goes on,
which almost,
but lucky this time,
most are supposed to do a clean install,
from a fresh partition
and lots of good reasons to do that,
but restart installing everything from scratch
without a KickStarter file
listing all those packages,
if Ubuntu had stuff like that
and what games
gnome-games
kde-games
utilities
and other stuff do i have up on here?
besides xemacs like stuff?
XBill?
xSol
xmahjongg
xshisen
the base XWindows games been around for
a while, now, like 20 years, some,
as Sun and other OS are still targeted by M$
HillBilly Gates
still see him drinking what was sewage
run thru his process to make clean water,
a basic necessity,
all the computers and trash
lead, and other bad chemicals in the water
photos/ video of kids in India rummaging through
garbage dumps looking for scrap metal,
anything with the little gold fingers,
recycling to make ends meet
...
Anyways, can't think of third world problems,
right now enough first world problems,
really fourth world, or whatever naming
convention is used these days...
NetWorkFails ToDays (20200422) Kernel .26
Kernel updated today,
and broke networking,
not specific,
just rebooted to the .25
kernel
and got networking back,
hopefully they will fix it in the next
one, until then have to be careful
and pay attention when booting,
as have to select the previous
one in grub...
Might be more elegant ways of doing
this, like finding out what it is that
breaks NetWorkManager or whatever,
might be hardware specific so
not sure people would know nor care,
so could be a break that goes for a while
given this older hardware,
but will see...

Until Beta turns General Distribution/
Release
or whatever it's called
Server Churn for all the new packages
going to the release, some may break things,
and today (20200422) Kernel upgrade killed
networking, so have to boot back to older one...
Not sure how long it will be a problem:
days, weeks, months, permanent?

Ubuntu 20.04
a quick google on Ubuntu 20.04 got some of this
http://releases.ubuntu.com/20.04/
https://ubuntu.com/about/release-cycle
https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2019/10/ubuntu-20-04-release-features
some of which i grokked (sp?) for
what i needed to jump head first into download
and destroy my system...
Conclusion
Summary of experience or similar
Luckily, back at typing drivel on the web,
doing it now from this beast, a hand warmer
of sorts, not as fun with 80 degrees out,
but there it is, back in business,
of sorts...
Programming on it,
instead of just surfing,
typing drivel,
and all sorts of other higher functions,
not really tried,
burning DVDs/ CDs
encoding such to uploadable
ogg etc
downloadable to smart phone,
the MotherShip as it were
for computing locally,
Media like DVDs CDs,
USB sticks need hardware
mostly obsolete these days,
until going to a library and getting
a media package/ but can't do that
as JustSayNoToConVid2020
has most things like that closed,
online eMedia only
so no paper, no packaging,
and no processing books,
which really slowed down
when not having a deadline
to return them by
the whole start up the economy
again type stuff,
maybe like Klondike2018
ghost towns , caches of supplies
and running out of money to buy
and plant crops
Rye, Corn, Wild StrawBerries,
much less Cotton,
etc...
Easter is the big deadline now,
not been biking as not having a working wheel,
and diverted to walking,
which takes less into the stores,
all sensitive about anything that may not be clean,
cleaner walking in going on 80 degrees
now, sweat, used to be nose running more
in cold, less so, but the virus lives off anything,
so will see...
Even if I fixed, rebuilt a wheel or two or more,
not much of any place to go,
I notice Aldi is not rationing
keeping a certain number of people at the door,
while cleaning carts, a wait system so not get to
crowded and a snake through the store
instead of random access, so traffic control
is going to be a pain, in the arse,
oh, i forgot this, that and the other,
in order of price, need, and do they have?
say first go to toilet paper, do they have any/
then to Finds, skipped on the way in,
and then to snacks for the commute,
and water,
...
Random Walk like to the casual observer,
Crazy Ivan's to submariners
in a mock naval war sim,
but really how i do it anyways,
did i remember this taht or the other,
checking price and availability,
mostly, still have this, that or the other
finds?
Nope AldiCantFind2019
Discussion
A place for feedback on the page presented
What do you run?
On what hardware?
Was it Free?
Is the Software?
Which Distro?
Why?
Corp/ Guberment said you have to have
M$? Apple?
What?
Why?
Don't go in there much,
Work Slowed,
School closed, for now,
learn something else?
a brain transplant?
Greed to Good conversion/
Just in time for a bearded bunny to go hopping
across the screen/ keyboard,
like a little troll?
Nope, TuxPaint?
OLPC SugarLabs SugarOnAStick
and get Free..
Look at the Code
change Pong to play the way you want,
and learn a skill, while trying something
different, most kids may not have grown up
on Pong
but have the code, have a system,
what happens with a really big paddle/
move it Ok?
how about more balls?
going at once?
or just more tries?
Change colours?
how about bound behavior,
it had a bad bounce,
really, see...
oh, a coding problem with the physics,
local knowledge,
didn't have MarchMadness to play bBall
with so had to make do...GeekyStyle...
