WorldChef2016

Introduction/Definition/etc

A commercial Android based game where you run a restaurant, after your grandfather or similar, but ran into some gridlock type problems, and some theory behind it, plus some other stuff(s)...

Body

From the AdColony ads played to get coins to play commercial 8Ball (see 8PoolByMiniCom2016 , really MiniClip not Com, but it is Commercial...) I was shown many games, products (Swiffer guy in Chicago with two dogs, Spanish family getting a Swiffer box, in Spanish... and turns on the volume to wake others while you play late in the middle of the night...),  TV shows (playing tonight...), and gambling options (casino like ads, etc), this one caught my eye, and I wishlist them to go back and view later, if interesting...

Installation

Installed easily, but would not move to SD card where I have more space...

BackDrop

I'm generally interested in the technical type stuff, DIY shows, how it works, etc, so this was up my alley, always wondering the mechanics of a restaurant, and partially enjoyed the machinery in a shelter industrial kitchen, though most of it was dish washing and cleanup, something like that and health inspectors are not modelled at all in this game simulation, neither is opening and closing processes, warming things up, getting supplies is shown, but things don't wear out, break, nor do you throw out food with spoilage, which gets to the deadlock/  gridlock/ race problem...  Not cultural race, though various customers and nationalities, skin tones, and sizes are represented in the animated customers, young ladies, ordering salads, Spring Salad, Bruchetta (sp?), and some meat based on bread thing like a pizza, but not... Starting out with some simple American Grilling Texan or similar character, all the chefs, make a show of it,  hamming it up, as they say, you do things over and over again, like Bike Kitchen, and a master mechanic, even teachers and some intermediates, can probably do two things at once, and be entertaining about it, these more than avatars, can perform a bit, but after seeing the entertainment, it gets old after a while...  I'm currently on Level 13, near the top, need a Japanese Chef to make some things people come in and order, before I even have the chef... My Top Chef type statue, in a restaurant I had to name, first off, MustacheCafe was already taken (see history on here somewhere, related to the real South County place... )

Strategies or Accommodations?

Segmenting the orders, more like take out, line up the tables after someone did the order, near the Chef stand, Pizza oven, for example, needs dough from the bakery Chef, who makes rolls for the Burger/ Grilling Chef, and pasta for the Italian Pizza type Chef, the Milk Helper currently makes cheese, her only product at the time, she will eventually make cream at later levels, according to some lookahead...

Lining the tables up, moving after each order helps for simple orders, placing them at the intersection of multiple chef stands for combos, etc...

Or design a better board, closer to a process automation or smart board, showing dependencies, maybe time to burger, things on the grill/ stove/ oven now, etc...

So Milk is a raw ingredient, goes in storage, but makes cheese, later cream, with a time variable for each, currently a constant, but add manual labor to decide to cook/prepare it, and Push it by waiting ,manually and trim off a minute at the end, at 59 electric seconds, free speed up...

Steak, makes hamburger, also goes to Bruchetta, and Steak itself,

Pork will be added as a meat to cook, not grill, that is the Burger guy, has buns, cheese, lettuce, and makes TarTar with egg...

Sauces Girl makes Hot Sauce, requires ingredients Peppers, and Hots, and cooks for 1,2 or 3 hours depending upon which sauce... Fish sauce for Sushi Chef soup...

Mexican Chef does Tacos, fast at 20? minutes, Stuffed Peppers at 30 minutes, but requires patties, Nachos take 2 hours, etc...

The intersections could be a graph...

Dough makes pizza crusts, nachos, wraps for tortillas in the tacos, not done separate, etc...

AntiPasta does many different things, including making salad, some meat on bread or wrap type shell, etc...

By ingredients, Avacado used in dip, and for sushi...

Rice for Beans and Rice, and sushi, assuming the same rice, not sushi rice...

but the ever ending list of ingredients, Onions coming next level...

revise the graph each time...

Different combinations make different dishes, time to prep, many stages possible, tomatoes, to sauce, to pizza, add ham, bake for 2 hours, total time needs to include sauce of 1 hours, but seems like cheating to buy sauce from others, but it makes it happen on time, maybe...  "I thought I got home cooking instead of ground McD burger patties, worse has probably happened, in  the real world...

Hallal, Kosher and other meat with dairy type food restrictions probably exist, so not serving alcohol, but allows smoking, no gaming, but coffee, variations around the real world...

But I digress...

GridLock?

Anyways, Gridlock, called dependency hell in software packaging and a race problem in Computer Science, and theory, one depends upon the other, and vice versa, so it just goes in a loop, the CPU racing, overheating and leading to hardware problems, disks spinning too much in one place, wearing out the surface, and even solid state, SD cards and memory wears out, OLPC had a wear levelling as one of the first (probably in research somewhere, less hyped) big netbook type designers...

But back to food, ingredients are required, you buy them at the Farmer's Market, I go back 8 or so years now to OdetoaFarmersMarket , my first published work, near Thanksgiving and shut down/ shuttering, I was told by the assistant / associate editor,  David H., in writer's group I later named Will Write for Food, inserting words, that I didn't know, learning, but not what I would have called it, simplified language, plain language, a lot like Plain (Amish or Mennonite, aka Pennsylvania Dutch...) people, non Fancy, just basics, good, solid, no fuss, no muss (sp?)...  Like meat and potatoes, no special sauces, new fangled things are generally bad, no need for pesto and a bunch of things I don't care for...

Anyways, expanding the building is also a problem, can't seem to get the whole back working, buy the land, costs, put tile on it, magically, the walls appear, but 3D animation/ perspective view and walls seen from the outside/ missing top, looking like a maze/labyrinth kind of like corrals and cattle herding, in they come, sit down, ! for wanting to order above their heads, and get what they want and an amount it will cost in gold coins type money, diamonds and they give you things too, after eating, various chatter, even while waiting, and they wait for days, living there, sleeping there, and it's open 24 x 7 x365, not holidays, evenings, no cleanup for the day, take stuff home, clean stuff up, or anything realistic, but idealized simulations without the grease fires, zoning and permits required, health inspectors, etc...

Coffee is coming in higher levels, something I don't want, I didn't even want wine/ alcohol/ (ETOH), but the hard coded game, has a certain path, and customers, once they arrive, you can't get rid of them, order take out, wash  dishes, since you don't have the money, or just refuse to serve, didn't wear shoes, one skateboard hipster comes in, sometimes starting alone, and eventually with others, mixed groups and mixed nationalities, not just pizza, but wants tacos, AntiPasta, and some want wine with food, so a whole new chef is required, with build time, a place to put them, ordering other types of ingredients, when unlocked, at levels, etc...  Complexity increases, and now they have deliveries of essences, that when added to food, enhance it, not MSG, but like that, AFAICT...  No options but to go to Academy (school) and learn how to do them, they are not trained Chefs, when they come in, they make in a certain amount of time, 30 minutes for Tacos, seems to take a long time, an Hour for Ham Pizza, but 2 minutes for cooking/ grilling a burger, that starts as steak ingredients, also done as looking like a flank steak, not T Bone, nor Ribs...

Conclusion

Summary of experience or similar

And the diners wait indefinitely until you go back to get the check/money, they give you stars and maybe some other things upon leaving, as thanks, like my grandfather used to go here, and thought you should have a screwdriver, chainsaw, diamond, etc, maybe it is left in the cushions, IDK...

Or the motorcycle type guy who drifts in, there might have been a blurb early in the game, describing who he is, what he does (buys up the stuff you need the most... sabotaging your restaurant?  keep him out?  try reading the board...), etc...

The patriarch seems to have disappeared, he used to have a clock/ timer, and help collect food, give advice, kind of like a mentor, but he was also the safety, along the lines of "Chefs have dishes prepared, let's go get them?  OK", and he was more hands, and the magic that made it work out, someone had to carry the dishes to customers, the wait staff, far from Nasty Bits by Anthony Bourdain, are all clean idealized stereotypes from their part of the world, and it looks more like a store within a store, think shopping mall basement Food Court, where you can have burgers grilled (no fries, side dishes, besides bread, now wine, bruchetta (sp? or similar, it's right, PBDNWorks hell checker problem...) AntiPasta...

Looking up on their website, there is/ will be a cookbook and recipes...

Also found an Application Development Kit, but not checked it out, not open source?  or just an API?

And it's socially networked, so FaceBook, and presumably Tweets, are possible, but I don't care for...

Why would everyone one in your addressbook care if you levelled up on a game?  Doing Group homework?

You can buy (but not sell?) your dishes, ingredients or even tools to other restaurants, like the Asian egg pasta type stuff, I don't have the 1500 coins to get the next nationality chef yet, (nor 4000 for onion samosa...) which would take me to another level (17 now), win an award, and get me past deadlock, as don't have diamonds to magically get beyond this problem, (do you marry the staff? to speed up a queueing problem?) dependency hell, kind of like alcoholism, some might be O.K., for some people, but not for all, and the simulation doesn't allow not doing that, a canned drama, path through the system that requires all restaurants to serve alcohol, coffee, what's next cigarettes, cigars, and hustlers, then prostitutes, or as the earliest profession, since Adam and Eve mythology, maybe started it all, Madam's Restaurant, or 60's Style, Alice's Restaurant, off to the jukebox tune, "You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant"...

But it does have a pool table decoration /Grin /Smile...

Turns out you can refuse service, with the walk icon on the top of the ! ordering request, it takes time, and a bug may be by mistake I deleted the table, it went into the Store, and could bring it back out...

Check is a nice icon, which means you have all the dishes they are ordering in dishes, and can turn the table quickly...  But other customers wait, without complaining, leaving, losing stars, gifts/ tips, etc...

Last In First Out queue pattern is easy to see, and I started seeing how making small orders helps, if they sell that, or you are messing up their productions, by being human...  An old guy came in asking for Coffee, sure the new Bartender makes coffee, but he wants one with Star(s), and my non Star version doesn't suffice, so I would have to wait for buy it from basically the chef's black market, not the farmers' market, fixed price, but maybe for 10x as much just to get the table back in service...

Large parties, with complicated orders, make a lot of money, but are difficult to fill all the orders...

Also, you can sell what is produced virtually, to players, and go visit their restaurant, in read only mode, it loads the other, probably in read mode, then reads in your restaurant design again, after going back Home...

You can also lend a hand, and clear the grape fields a bit for them (who's tools?), compare designs of restaurants, see what they are doing, and learn from others, possibly...

Most of this write up was just personal experience, like putting up windows as required additions/ decorations to up the level, and ended up rather windowed out to the water, virtual customers might be able to see virtual crabs playing, dream of using the helipad, watch the ocean, plan a concert on the outside deck (thousands, and land goes up with levels, maybe exponentially...) etc...

Or maybe I could add a wheelchair ramp /cough...

Walking thru walls, the design your own building might have a few bugs:  my wait staff is walking thru walls on occasion, they may be amazing, magical, but just plain ghosts too?

Crashing, without reporting, when trying to buy 8 wrenches, and having little inventory space, it just crashed out of there...  Secret trap door out of the building and site?   The rendezvous location for bad Foodies?  or really good ones, idk...

Discussion

A place for feedback on the page presented

Religious Freedoms come to gaming?

Does running a food place mean you have to have wine?

Juice options, since kids show up, (usually ordering burgers) add a licensing requirement, so that you decide if you want to serve certain stuff, peasant's not liking other nationalities, RoadKill's Red Neck Biker Bar and Grill or similar, don't want no Foreigners here, attitude, diner motif/ decorations can be bought at the store, pool halls, and other bartending is not that far off, it doesn't really spoil, except when beer gets warm, corks left open, decanters not filled and used, and other problems of Sin City, and it's corresponding businesses, but I rant about things, even days into it, experts/ Master Chefs probably, hopefully know more, the queuing theory similar to banking, and other games like Valor, time to build, have a real time clock on each thing, end up multitasking, old hardware didn't support it, one process, do it or lose, now powerful enough that you can do much juggling of many tasks, multitasking, and terminate and stay resident, not really the keywords, we are looking for here, but overnight guests in a restaurant, kind of like when bus stops start to be shelters, because the storm stranded people, metro shut down, and getting people out in a sequence to clear all the passengers from the benches, waiting areas, rest rooms, storage areas, car parks, valets, and other reality based grit you expect in the Real World...

I actually kind of like it, but finding it's limitations is part of the fun, bad reviews and all...

If it were open source, I might be able to add these features, or design something, where others did the programming, but they chose a commercial tack, afaict...

Speaking of which, there are different queues, ingredients queue, buy stuff at the market, patrons queue, wait outside chatting away in pop up messages, and then piling ingredients on the Chef, whose stand needs to be built, (think SimCity inside?) who have a finished cooking queue (small stool), but over flows, backs up, when dish storage (the prepared foods, bread is a prepared food and an ingredient, but not Cheese, stores in Dishes, but really an ingredient, Dough and Sauces, Marinara/ Tomato Sauce, and Hot Sauce (required for Mexican/ South American dishes, not all, but many) so reality lacking there too... Ketchup, I saw made on Scandanavian Now ScanCanCook? show, like BBQ (including welding smoker types) and other challenges, Grilling Basics, get the ingredients, secret ingredients right, add brown sugar to BBQ sauce?  or is it molasses, anchovies in something to make it taste different/ make it pop?  What about allergies?  Peanut allergies, a problem for some, rather deadly, and might be some issues I'm having after binging on about 3-5 bags of discount holiday candy, down to 90% from list, weeks after, but then someone came in and bought all the $0.44 bags or so, leaving me without sweats, and no Food Distribution (ThePracticalitiesOfFoodDistribution2012  not running on Rev. Dr. M.L.K. Jr.'s Monday, and then Monday from the Storm, so learning how to get buy on things I can't really cook, dried beans, oatmeal, without my accessories cooking raisins, white grapes dried with sulfur, not dark raisins which looked like bugs, raisin bran in a city type/ apartment type living situation, much less dorms, and bugs get in, looking like the raisins in your bleary eyed early am awakenings...  But I digress into the gross, automating some of the logics sounds interesting, even A.I. and it's Founder Marvin Minsky died recently at the ripe old age of 88 or so...  Bummer...  Wonder if he had Robots to help him in his old age, or is it GradStudents/ former students looking after you til you die?

  2. fix some spellings, but PBWorks doesn't work on some words, sulfur for example red lines even without a comma after it, bruchetta has an s in it on wikipedia, but found it, without a typo, so variations
  3. basically Hash Brown it...  Recent movie with guy diagnosed with prostate cancer or similar as a family cooking with love in Georgia, something about Faith?  but cannot find it easily, notable lead actor, Roots main character?  Bad inspector, other stuff(s)...  Act of Faith, Amos, not easily found on WikiPedia, but on IMDB...
