Introduction/Definition/etc

Skipping the usual CamelCase for what the book title is,

a library book sale $0.10 paperback, which I thought would

be more hippie, but some, and fiction, but not bad,

not for young children, unless redacted parts,

as about R Rating, if books had them, adult

themes various places...

Body

Book Contents

Moscow Nights

The Shadow of the Cross

The Other Widow

Sleeping Dogs

The Summer Before the Summer of Love

The Ghost Mother

The Garage Sale of the Three Lindas

The Prodigal Father

The Still Point

Crete

Inline Additions?

Tempting to add something about each short

to keep it all together and be able to backtrack to

the book, for more detail, which usually isn't

the problem with me, the whole gestalt of it,

and making the connections between,

for the reader, sometimes helps,

connective tissue, in other words...

Interleaving Stuff

While the characters and stories are distinct,

they could be patchworked together,

thinking some relate somehow to others,

as I read it in a day, and mish mashed some

together, not really stopping to analyze it

all that much...

If the young couple with the guy having brain

damage, going to jail, etc, and the beekeeper,

and the moms, dads, and kids, of various,

fearfully losing kids, standing vigil at the site,

and wondering if the narrator was the one,

and infidelity, and lots of bad feelings,

only a few good ones, so mentioning love

in the title, and it's not all mushy sentimentality,

but not without it, like some serious therapy,

and other issues are raised, but not the point of it,

the understanding of the situation makes me

wonder how much of it the author has

experienced personally...

And on to the ending, and the desires,

missing and real, of what happens, a cliff

hanger and left wanting more, as some

would say, instead of droning on and on,

like a lot of this, not well thought out writing,

stream of consciousness, but the bad LSD

trip, comparing to schizophrenia rule out,

manic depressive, now called bipolar in

JustLikeSomoneWithoutMentalIllnessOnlyMoreSoByMarkVonnegutMD

and some other stuff, when he was having

problems, at my worst, not even reading

really, could not concentrate, and the

meds may have caused some of that,

while you can't perseverate (sp?) on something

if you can't remember what that thing is,

short term memory problems remain,

name recall, etc, but this is not really

about me, just some of the altered states,

or whatever it's called, where you are

in their shoes, and they really aren't

planted well on the ground...

Conclusion

Summary of experience or similar

More trashy in the sex department

than I might have expected,

so not really for younger readers,

but much of what is up here,

is for more mature than that...

Nothing very explicit, and

graphic language, but

be forewarned, appropriate use,

etc...

Some rather intense subjects,

a lot of death, in various forms,

abortion, dead child of parents

and another with variation(s),

bloody murdering family,

dog hit by car, and more,

but not a horror type thing,

maybe a dark type goth,

or film noir without the film

nor the same time period(s)?

Somewhat disturbing, but not

gratuitiously (sp?), it kept me

reading, and some turns of phrases,

somewhere mentioned a phrase book

one of the early mom poet characters

was writing, and others were

writers, realtors, moms, dads and

kids, of various ages, not a

lot of teenagers, but not none...

The language is interesting,

the characters are well developed,

and fiction isn't usually my thing.

I was wondering, much of the time,

how she comes up with this stuff...

Voice of the short stories are in female,

sometimes, male others, and steps out

of self in others, like a bad LSD trip,

after doing some pot,  with a guy

who's home burned down,

and visits his daughter's group house,

where his dog is staying, in the meantime.

while he is in a bland apartment box,

of sorts, maybe even a hotel,

eats there while she is out, the roommates

are cool with it, he goes over and

brought wine, because he can't find

a corkscrew, (one Zen? guy just drinks from it...)

Making lists of all the stuff he lost in

the old home, dreams of rebuilding with

Feng Shui (sp?)...  But I digress into details,

not conclusions...

Discussion

A place for feedback on the page presented

What limits of reading material/ contents,

for what ages?

Does it matter if it's in picture form,

or merely writing?

Would the vocabulary lure kids to

inappropriate content, or

like Trojan Mouse gaming,

just learn that way...

Do you have to take from real people

and munge them into characters?

Is that a way to create fiction and

a story line?

Or a good way of getting sued,

for using real people, and

writing about them?

Many published works have

something like "resemblances

to people, living or dead are coincidental"

legalese to break the reality in fiction...

"Willful suspension of disbelief"

is a part of theatre, and the audience

must start from that, and see reality

in the way the production sees fit to

present it, and then compare sometime

after, if they wish...

Comedy may be the warped version of

that, where laughter is the release of

energy, when it hits home...
