CVS on the item/ UPC may show price comparisons, those with smart phones and data plans might be able to photo the item and price check in the store, some apps like that may exist, others need your receipt to photo/ scan and I think that is groceries, mostly, some grocery stores didn't have memory cards, some had cell phone time and phones, but not memory, but had WiFi in the store, so kids, i guess could be entertained while parents/ caregivers are shopping...

CVS might have some stuff, sale prices, might exist, and membership / discount card needed for some stuff, mostly memory cards were the regular price, some exceptions...

Weekly Sale prices are usually Sunday thru Saturday, and the Sunday one just started overnight, stocking stores may differ, availability, etc...

YMMV Your Mileage May Vary, limited time offers, etc, standard legalese, I don't endorse nor recommend them, just go there a lot, and tried several stores, some have in different places, I mostly scanned at their kiosk to have prices written down, sometimes not the same as the shelf / rack label, and bending over and down needed to see small print, low, and others, like smart phone behind the counter, store layout diagrams may vary...

CVS.com

searching on Tracfone only yields one international calling card, no phones, so that was no help, at all..

BestBuy.com

searching on Tracfone gives the desired Alcatel phone, but regular price, price match, but not really, if discount card, instead of sale price?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?st=tracfone

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/tracfone-lg-lucky-with-4gb-memory-prepaid-cell-phone-gray/&skuId=6507036

is something else, and may give tracking info out, but whatever, for now...

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/tracfone-alcatel-onetouch-pixi-glitz-prepaid-cell-phone-black/&skuId=4427501

pulling out odd numbers in there, the link might not even work...

but better description of the phone, than most, plus other stuff q&a, reviews, etc

Site has a cell phone buying guide, but link is a mess, so you will have to find it manually...

OfficeDepot.com

searching on Tracfone didn't seem to help, iirc...  Gave batteries, but no guarantee they match

http://www.officedepot.com/catalog/search.do?Ntt=tracfone

Staples.com

searching on Tracfone might show something, but the site took too long, and other problems like Flashy graphics more important than responding to the query, and not really responding either...

http://www.staples.com/tracfone/directory_tracfone

MicroCenter.com

http://www.microcenter.com/search/search_results.aspx?Ntt=memory+SD+MicroSD+adapter+flash

only yields an AdaFruit low profile adapter

http://www.microcenter.com/search/search_results.aspx?N=4294966653+4294965302

gives things like SanDisk Extreme Plus instead of just Ultra

WiFi included on a few rare cards/sticks

USB3.0 instead of lower 2.0 and/or not listed, etc...

different form factors, some sticks had funny stuff, characters, stripes, spots, colours, etc

and larger sizes than probably will work on older devices with a 32GB limit...

And a fairly nasty practice of Price Request on some items, requiring more effort (email me the price? one each of 3 our of 7 listed on that search, at that time), just to find out what it might really cost, before even getting there, to possibly find it's out of stock, cavity search to get in, out, home, must talk to a sales person so they can sticker your item for their sales commissions, be accused of all sorts of things, i.e. discriminated against, etc...

Background

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_memory

NoVAPeers

Tablets2015

a smart phone, even prepaid is like a small tablet, but with other features, maybe, like FM radio, on that one

PrePaidCellPhonesUpGrade2016

mentioned the sale, cheap smart phone availability/ cost again

GooglePhishingForPhoneNumbers

Do you really want to give your phone number out to such a company?

How do they use it?

How are privacy concerns handled?

Was it marketing/ and/or Fear Uncertainty and Doubt to get the number(s), say for emergency recovery service(s), largely non existent...

RetailDiscrimination2012

still seems to be a big issue, in how people are treated in stores...

RPi3in2016

vs. a whole phone, admittedly the Alcatel 263BG or whatever, is only dual core, 2 Gig storage , etc...

but includes charger, display and touchscreen...

GeekingOutWithRaspberryPi2012

how many cores were the RPi1?

PreTeenPatience2015

No, I'm not giving them away, quit gimmie stuff aggressive panhandling, stalking, etc...

Alternative(s): Consider buying yourself the Tulip Tie Dye kits at 75% off though (=  $2.25 + tax), limited supplies, availability, risks of staining just about everything, toxicity, fashion nightmares, etc...  Kind of like giving kids permanent markers that bleed... So maybe 13 yo+ With Adult Supervision, and researching the chemicals involved.  Shirts not included, cheap food service type gloves and rubber bands were in the package, though 5 colour packs were mostly happy bright ones (red, yellow, violet, fushia (sp?), etc), not the dark gothy type ones (blue, green) ...

Conclusion

Summary of experience or similar

Table Sorting

Comparison table above may sort, not sure, trying to create it with a touchpad, and needed a mouse, insert table didn't but add rows (before or after) and add columns (before or after) might have helped, will see how this happens...

Unit Pricing?

Calculate out the price per gigabyte and adjust for different types, MicroSD, Ultra speeds (Class 10+. UDS?), and memory stick (USB)...

Adaptors Converters BreakOuts

Some will convert for other things, MicroSD with an adapter will fit in SD, but not the other way around SD too big for MicroSD, etc

Cards can be made into sticks with card readers/writers, but USB Flash memory sticks will probably not fit into card slots (maybe a breakout, but may require a ribbon cable and other problems fitting in where available (back of camera, smartphone, etc)

Discussion

A place for feedback on the page presented

Android Smartphone Pricing Availability

So the TracFone A463 Android BG4? prepaid smart phone is $19.99 or so, but with store membership value card, now $10 again, $10.59 with tax, in VA (6%).

Still haven't flashed it, but needed MicroSD memory to increase from the 2 Gig built in, quickly...

Other Stores

Memory card for sale seasonally at an office supply type store, expensive, even on sale, MicroCenter may be cheaper, bulk, no name, and/or on sale, but only a few of those around DC, and closed for the day when I went  the other week, shorter hours than a 24x7 drug store chain...

Consider how pleasant the store staff was, helpful, and/or could not find...

Attacked by "Security"

Ridiculed?

Told to Get Down on the Ground?

Maybe they were praying to Mecca?

And/or being robbed by someone(s) on crack/PCP, etc?

Were you interrogated?

Were your rights respected?

Did the alarm go off, on the way in? On the way out?

Followed home by a taxi making threatening lunging type movements and speeding too?

Cost(s) and Risks to Acquire

How much effort is worth saving?  Do working people at a higher pay rate really travel around, using gas, time, in my case blisters, trying three stores, in the middle of the night, to find it on sale again, for a backup, several versions back from latest Android version?

Or is it worth having another WiFi device for emergencies, spare parts (extra battery), accessories (charger, etc) and game playing multiple accounts with approximately 30 free coins per hour, and using power on, power off cycles in down time(s)?

Variations and Options

What are the adjusting factors of plug type (USB, SD, MicroSD), and card speeds (Class 4, 10, UHS, etc) ?

Is < $1/ GB a good rule of thumb, for a good price?

Buying in bulk help?

Quality of memory, many read writes like for running a RPi3 or similar on it?

Does brand name, say SanDisk help, or will any no label memory work fine?

Backup memory to carry around, in case run out?  Like sale 16GB for $10? each, back a while ago, almost a year but slow Class 4, iirc...

Online prices, but waiting on shipping, etc vs. going to a place and spending gas, time, etc...  Factor in the risks of purchasing on line, shipment not arriving, damaged / missing in transit, emergency needs (no memory for photos, no signal to upload, etc) plus getting mugged/ robbed/ stalked/ attacked, run over by taxi, heat, rain, snow, sleet, hurricane, etc...

But needed the exercise to sleep, and something to write on today, one of a few off, recently...

20160913 JerrySpeak

  1. Adding further info about the Cruzer Stick, UPC and Item numbers, not a a sale price, even though in back to school area(s), then disappeared to regular space(s), and reorganized, with phones nearby photo, in one store layout
  2. minor stuff, changes, clarity, typos, spacing, whatever, past intersting time, and spreadsheet not happening, table problems, needs attributes out of the formulae for ease of conversion(s), calculate while somewhere, compare prices, features, cost benefit analysis, etc...
  3. mucked up table some, trying to get ride of odd small checker like row at the end, will see if it helped...
  4.

20160907 20070510EthicsDignityRiskJerry

  1. table change, can't seem to get sorting though, and tables within tables, removed extra middle column
  2. UDS->UHS
  3. suggested that spreadsheet be supplied, that's an exercise left for the reader...
  4. Sectionalizing
  5. Links with phones, but not memory, so figure that out yourselves, search terms, munging links based on patterns, etc
  6. adding Tulip Tie Dye kits on sale

20160905 JerrySpaceIdea

  1. shifting some table cells, on what was actually purchased, find UPC from the take home packaging
  2. clarifying,
  3. some error / fact  checking
  4. wifi -> WiFi
  5. uSD -> MicroSD
  6. Sections, etc

  • Jerry created this page to compare something, which can't be done easily in a store, unless have a calculator/ technology, and or rules of thumb ($1/GB +/- form factors && extras adaptor high speed, brand, etc), previous experience, guides, math whiz, human calculator autistic(s),etc...
