"I Came, I Saw, I Criticized"
A line from Judy Gold's Mommy Queerest
at the TheatreJ.org in DCJCC to transition
between holiday family time and the real world...

Body
End of the run of December 16- January 3,
experienced something a little more
outside my realm of understanding than
Diveristy, Power & Authority Tavistock
group relations conferences at Howard
University (see RacismAnonymous)
and much shorter...
Judy's a 6'3" Observant Jew
raised in New Jersey, now lesbian mother
of 2 NYC boys looking for funding
another bathroom...
The rest is probably contraversial,
insensitive and spoiling, so you've
been warned. But unlike the
UpInTheAirAndPreciousSPOILER2009
I don't do character assassinations in
person. She had the guts to get
up on stage, do standup, pitch
the Jewdy Show (several times),
open her life to public amusement,
discuss Schwendy (spelled that correctly?
It was Sharon, but anonymously Wendy,
and she was consistent in it's use
the rest of the show...) included...
Then after her partner has an artificially inseminated baby,
after shopping at $1000 a pop, she says,
(the roles are a little uncertain, as she mentioned,
who's the guy in the relationship?
traditional Male Female roles with Lesbians
are a little more vague than even MH and Advocacy
in VA following M.Kennedy & S.H. Cho...)
On to finding another relationship (bagged a Therapist!),
travelling on the road with her mother ("some bring writers,
I brought my mother, the source of the content"
or very similar.
Coming out in therapy with her sister,
"Oh, MY God!"...
Not coming out to her father,
even after an openning/ opportunity,
before he died.
Losing her father and the opportunity
to buffer breaking it to her mother,
discovering comedy in college,
after near decades of ridicule in grade
and high school, with photos projected
like Carrie Fisher's performance Wishful
Drinking, though probably more common
than my limited theatre going knowledge...
In the tradition of

It was just up my alley,
but I'm getting old, senile, demented, and it's been a few
days since the last of the series show run on Sunday
evening, and a late ridiculing MetroAccess driver
back home, so I'm unable to remember
most of the funny lines like Wishful Drinking.
I was tired, very very tired,
and again/ still now,
but oddly excited to try something new,
most stuff I do anymore has to be high
intensity to hold my almost ADHD interest,
vacillating to couch potato/ slug / depressed mode,
all of which I do, in my life, really isn't funny,
so how do comedians keep us laughing
when their lives are probably
not what they want it to be too?
There is a tradition of comedians being depressed,
but somehow seeing the world in a sage like way
that makes us laugh...
She actually seemed a little scared to me,
maybe of what is next, or the stereotypical fear
of bags (unattended bag! it's just my lost/
newly bought marbles, really, for a project with kids...
plus a few more layers of clothing, helmet,
assorted information like bus schedules,
water bottle, old StreetSense papers,
in case no one believed that I'd written and
published things in the past,
and a new collection of Driedels from a
newly discovered DC store, slightly out
of season and on sale, with instruction sheet...)
Maybe she will google herself, as mentioned
in the show/ performance and see this?
But it's so far down in pageRank that
it probably won't be seen...
Not that she would have any interest
in moi, Lesbian and all, plus she was
a writer for the Roseanne show and
other big league gigs...
Maybe it was that the show was ending
and back to her more normal life that scared
her?
All two non Jewish audience members,
as she put it, jokingly, but it's hard to tell,
asking the guys next to me, only 60 families
in PW county??, one synagogue/ temple
and no domestic violence assistance listed
on the JCADA (JCADA.org) pamphlet
(remember I'd just reviewed/ Precious??)
from the lobby and survived the holidays.
But I digress...
Overall impressions:
Funny, somewhat sad, nowhere were the
antidepressants mentioned? as I saw in some of the
press somewhere, to a likely sold out last show,
in very cold 10-20 degree F weather without windchill,
feeling awkward but somehow tolerated
(baggy, biker w/ helmet, my usual casual dress
(Formal means you wear socks!),
but better than usual wearing theatre black, as it's slimming
for the holiday excesses, and blends??? ;-/,
loner on a night out, poor, Gentile, Straight, socially awkward,
culturally ignorant (Asked for a "Jewish Culture for Idiots" book
in the little store, sales/shopgirl was somewhat amused, etc)
hid in the "Jewish store" pre show to avoid sitting/ standing
in the lobby waiting and fidgetting, but not eating after an expensive [for me]
$30+ fees, and associated transportation costs,
post holiday, on disability...) but still cheaper
and more beneficial to me than traditional
therapy...
And who can't use a room full of Jewish Mothers
to feel better? ;-/
Recommendations:
To be taken way out of context,
as with most of what I've done...
- Give Jewdy Her [Own!] Show!
- Look for Improv / Comedy Clips online...
- Learn more culture, pick a culture, any culture, it's all spoiled anyway, that's what culture is...
- Suggest a disabled rate, there is a seniors, and 35 & under, maybe student, all lumpted into low income
- Try to laugh, when able...
- Excuse me, Mahjongg, is calling me. FWIW: computer solitaire sets it up, and moves the tiles for me, and little social interaction / demands ;-/
Conclusion
Summary of experience or similar
See above plus any other thoughts that emerge, later,
when thaw out, able to think, get over the New Year rush,
scheduling hell, etc...
