FoundIDWhatToDoIdeas2017

Introduction/Definition/etc

So travelling along, and find what looks

like ID on the road/ street/ sidewalk,

on a chair/ seat/ bus stop, etc...

What to do?

Is it ID?  If so, how to return it?

What risks are there in doing that?

How quickly do you have to do it?

Body

So over the years, I have found ID,

various places, and generally try to find out

what to do about it, sometimes it is not enough

to find someone, no address included, like

with a license, and I've even lost ID,

a Social Security and Medicare card,

with gift cards, plus cash totalling about

$500, which would make it a felony, if stolen,

and I never got it back...  Didn't make for a good

Black Friday sales, and had to go report it

to various places, looking for it's safe return,

and probably on the do not fly list, because

of it, there is lifetime limit of how many

Social Security cards you can get, last I checked,

maybe they are free or replacement costs

after that?...  With identity theft, many risks,

involved losing ID like that...

But what of a lost old Driver's License?

Would you just drop it in a local post box,

and the issuing authority, DMV for that state,

get it postage guaranteed?  Like Hotel Room keys

or other stuff with addresses and stuff on it,

giving directions for same?

What about security cards?

Key Fobs?

Employer IDs?

Search the person's name and look them up?

Would the person be missing and endangered,

or just stressed and worried about what would be

done with their stuff?

Would the First 48 Hours

(or whatever the show is called)

be crucial and the only way of finding someone?

How did they lose it in the first place?

Go drinking?  And drop it in a bar type party/

nightspot type block?

Or dark alley somewhere, and wonder if they

fled for their life, throwing valuables at attackers

and get away that way, like food at a rabid

dog chasing?

Conclusion

Summary of experience or similar

Returned one fairly recemntly and someone

sent me a gift card, for something I might not use,

thought of giving it to the disabled begging

homeless like guy that was panhandling nearby,

but maybe keep it for emergency use, instead...

What mailing and privacy options do you have?

Drop it off personally?

Mail first class?

Postage due?

COD?

Give a return address, to make sure it gets to them?

Give an explanation of where you found it?

How it took so long to figure out what to do about it?

Or is it a trick to get your personal information,

a scam of the variety of drop a key, as a sales

person to see if they would buy that type of vehicle?

(It turns out it's probably hundreds of dollars

to rekey a vehicle... Just copying a key is

relatively cheap, at least old key systems,

but newer, getting to other ways now...)

How many security type scenarios would be

reasonable, before giving nefarious people ideas

on things to do to others?  And not generally

protect others from harm?

Or just tired of worrying about it?
