Introduction/Definition/etc
A small book, found at a Little Library,
which I read, and a few things on it...
Spoiling, as usual for me, go read it,
and don't say I told you so,
nor try passing off my views as your own,
that is cheating, with honor code, etc issues.
Yeah, great artists steal,
but you are not likely a great artist,
imnsho.
Body
Original Text
Originally French, this one translated to English,
but some stuff really doesn't translate...
French culture, particularly high brow,
as this gets into some,
may not have counterparts in Americanisms,
though English/British probably do,
judging from the Royal Wedding(s), etc
Masterful in techniques, writing, plot, innuendo,
and where it could have gone,
with spy, intrigue, detective mystery type of themes,
including mature, but like Disney, many levels,
it could be read at...
Basically, a man, an old divorced book shop owner,
with teen daughter, finds a purse, containing
a red notebook
(n.b. not an ebook as might now be done,
that would be a high value target)...
The young lady,
possibly of the night,
coming back late,
with a history,
which also unravels,
is mugged, we read in the first person?
Purse, with ID, keys, phone, stolen,
goes to a nearby hotel,
as locked out late,
not wanting to disturb neighbors late,
head trauma,
gives address, etc,
found next morning,
now in a coma...
A difficult start, reading of being attacked,
and almost stopped there,
but kept going, hoping for a Happier Ending,
through the sensationalism, should I say,
through the bachelorhoodness of the divorcee,
his philandering friend,
and even the being dumped.
More like public humiliation,
taken in style,
from his newscaster girlfriend,
who correctly assumes the lost items,
including perfume, and covering up,
mean something, not yet,
but the mind is,
or can be, the most sensitive organ,
complete with a teen/preteen/tween
angle of the daughter,
dimestore romance novel it might not be,
some skill but not approaching Nin,
the adult part not graphic,
enough for some,
way too if you have kids,
read for school, etc...
As a writing exercise,
Found Objects,
make up a plausible and interesting
story around them,
common literary technique,
it also mentions authors,
one reclusive prominent signed a book in the purse,
can he describe her?
Try making a meeting with one,
stalking a possibility,
hunting info, or meat, hard to tell,
perspectives, gender roles, biases, and
stereotypes included, mislead the reader into
jumping to conclusions, the plot twist(s),
if there were more action,
so to speak...
The name dropping getting tiresome,
high brow dining, wine, culture,
like a tease of the upper crust,
You, gentle, and not so gentle reader,
are left to wonder, which force are you,
Dark Side, or White Hat?

Conclusion
Summary of experience or similar
Worth the price, free, of sorts,
picking up three (3) from free,
the fine print says one,
others defending me, we are trying to get rid of,
we will put more in, we know him, sort of stuff, etc...
An ID kid on a park bench, with smartphone,
he doesn't read, but I've seen picture books
at some LFL, just not that one...
Of the other two picked up,
a healthy cookbook,
from an MD perspective,
and a local English Prof's book,
likely he was walking nearby,
I hadn't read the jacket,
including a photo of him,
He seems to be scheming on marketing techniques,
and maybe even presales copy possible,
my brief bookstore clerk experience,
front covers torn off,
sold back to publishers,
and read by staff,
kind of the product research
bookworm junkies might do,
a sampling from the paperback trash,
the great unwashed,
really may not understand,
I was lost in parts,
admired techniques in others,
so the dummy, male subcontext
not allowed into the private world(s) of a woman's/
young lady's purse, like the sexual revolution,
is passe (yeah French accent character grave
nor aigu missing)...
Discussion
A place for feedback on the page presented
So what to do with found belongings?
Was the person kidnapped?
Body snatched into human trafficking?
Alien abduction?
Post 9/11 detainees?
Disappeared?
Police station?
How was that experience?
Confused with a perp?
Old man carrying purse on street?
Man purse?
Gauche
ike fanny packs?
What boundaries exist?
What betrayals?
How does a detective, investigator, PI, and writer/researcher differ?
What caseload(s)?
What if it were your belongings?
Want them back?
How about the cat sitting?
Exploring her apartment?
While in a coma?
And after waking?
What of the lady's late husband?
Does it seem like post 9/11 terrorism?
International intrigue?
What stalking does she do?
Reasonable given his lack of boundaries?
Was she a pro?
Several times wounded by relationships?
Do we blame victims and assume the worst?
What if the contents of the red notebook were more Anais Nin like?
If the red book were more black book?
A madam's/call girl's client list?
Age of the girl?
Relative to old man who found the purse?
Writing techniques and devices?
Teen perspective?
Female and her friends?
Ordering her dad around?
Or helping him in bachelorhood, while mentioning the new beau of his ex wife?
And adding the mom's/ex wife's perspective does what?
How does intergenerational parts play out?
Are you young? Or old?
If young, can you see the older perspectives?
If old, still remember not having privacy?
What of French History with the Marquis de Sade?
Catacombs?
Views on mental health?
Other French writers?
Analogous in Spanish?
Greek?
Italian?
Roman?
Russian?
Japanese?
Chinese?
Etc
ethnicities?
Or is the unique?
Why?
Why not?
