Introduction/Definition/etc
Similar but different than an InstantPot
(tm elsewhere)
a digitally controlled Pressure/ Multi Cooker
which for cheap, relatively, but alas does Not
work, as advertised, so far, for me,
giving an E1 error code,
no real fixes but call/return....
Body
Original Text
While studying/ learning about bread,
and lots of books, still unprocessed,
and approaching first return/renew dates
went thru an Aldi supermarket,
and saw a machine,
relatively cheap at ~$60,
but I didn't have the money,
still really don't and went back,
bought one, and trying it
early in the morning, predawn,
and getting consistently an E1
error code
which the troubleshooting page
says to unplug for 20 minutes
and try again, contacting customer
service if continues to error,
which it has consistently over
5-10 tries...
More detail follows:
Learning about them,
competing, and possibly a knock off
of an InstaPot (tm elsewhere),
but as entry level, worth considering,
large size, and stainless steel bowl,
pressure and safety, warnings, legalese
almost inpentrable (sp?), starting out,
numbered parts, a manual in at least two
languages, a quick start guide, but
instruction contain stuff like check for
damage on a new machine, and never
seen it before, don't know what to compare
against, a known good? or what to look for,
not really described, at all...
Pressure regulator,
opening
spill cup,
safety button,
seals, gaskets,
twisting locking lid/top
assorted accessories,
spoon(s)/ladle
rice paddle,
measuring cup,
the whole thing in plastic lining bags,
a big box, and slightly heavy,
especially getting during the snow
storm, with other things,
and made it back with assistance,
forced to MetroBus, risking problems
there, having to find routes,
if they are running, storms and late
arrivals/ delayed starts, etc,
spending, hopefully carefully,
but find it's a problem,
and down to game day,
not that i really care about that,
but big event, and something else
to do with a stuck in weekend,
continuing along food and
hoping to prepare beans,
pressure cooking that, slow cooking
functions, rice cooker functions,
make cake/bread, steamer,
a generalized machine under digital
controls, presets, and alterable defaults,
starting at a number and adjust,
not settable, just change the one running...
Learning curve steep for me,
many probably already have ,
in the seemingly normal
worlds of yuppiedom,
but filtering down, checking
for comparisons,
someone suggested to just
go to InstaPot (tm and real spelling elsewhere)
and that may have turned out correct,
lured by the cost, but not worth it,
it seems, though could justify
to myself, it would do the lower functions
as if the AldiReviews or similar website
had user provided comments
on a review page
that their pressure not even
being high enough for food safety,
assuming some FUD, quality control,
store return policies, and other things,
wanted it to work, and did the test case,
easiest for me was 6 eggs to hard boil,
water below the rack, and cook 6 minutes
on high pressure, starting from the 5
minute Egg preset button
having gone thru issues, all really unsolved
remove stickers? one inside the heating,
about some safety, but would it burn off
the sticker? many on the lid/ top
and that gets hot/ warm i discover,
reading and hearing from other(s)
to wash it first, the dishwasher and big
pot, but forgetting/ not doing the seal,
silicone and other issues, many little
parts, some hand wash, and getting another
seal may be impossible, on posting person
mentioned, not available, so risks, and half
normalish price for name brand, and some
deficits, maybe have to cut/ make my own
seal, if that were all there was to it,
maybe erroring (sp?) out instead of done,
never getting very high temperature,
warm/preheat a graph shows,
i have not timed where it stops,
tried it 5+ times, some delaying,
hoping maybe some seal is just
not tight enough repeated use and
any contaminants would clog the stuff,
self sealing like a inner tube,
but high temp and pressure(s)
scalding warnings, injury and even
the Boston Marathon bomber used
a pressure cooker bomb sort of thing,
not sure the details, but read somewhere,
not what i'm doing, but just noting the risks,
somewhat, getting food important too,
what i am given, ,to use instead of have
to give away, a waste to stock pile, and
insect spraying, even double+ bagged,
almost small bean bag size collection,
my attempts at presoaking, failed,
quick soaking i'd done,
and heating on open flame for hours
literally, slow cooking may be too slow
for me, and risks of leaving unattended,
a quick run out, leave a timer on,
scare neighbors, somewhat, others likely
chefs, cooks, and homemakers, much
more qualified than i, but all the same,
oppressive rules, can not have this and
that, normal people would have,
limiting disabled to death, really,
instead of free and peaceful enjoyment,
the current threats are unbelievable,
21dot30RetalitoryEviction2015
and still not gotten much better/ different
SlumLords2013
Barrio and gangland and other issues still abound,
partially problems, the secrets, it seems
to making beans, canned and just heat up,
but dried, cheaper, lighter, etc,
but cooking for hours and missing a major
source of cuisine/ food staples,
for some cultures, even Boston baked beans,
sugary, and molasses based, salty,
and other stuff, a reason why others do the
cooking, slow, and one recipe included add
smoke flavor (ingredient)
make yourself at home from what given,
usually a bag, small as it is,
especially given the size of the pressure
cooker pot, but learning only fill to half
at most for some things, less/more
depends on how much the ingredients
expand, some have particles that clog
the vent/ regulator, so cannot cook with this,
a list of restrictions in the documentation,
I've not memorized, one InstaPot book,
started looking at, and hoping to eventually
do make my own veggie burger,
and cooks oatmeal, and many other goodies,
some enticing, some scary/ labour intensive,
yogurt making, (pasteurizing ironically,
might be killing off competing microbiology
cultures, (your average commercial yogurt
lists a couple at least, but live dead and starter,
like with sourdough, and yeast,
and need to learn that,
and many other things, possibilities,
but actual experience?
not me, not yet,
and looks like not soon either...)
and bought a thrift store book
on yogurt,
even mentioned a heating pad technique,
back in the 1970's when dedicated yogurt
making machines existed, electrical, but simple,
by microcontroller standards today, it seems,
not got one, and not even got what i thought
i had, as not working, for me,
and maybe others, will have to check the
other posters histories again,
So kept trying/ retrying/ waiting, etc
luckily running banana quick bread
on the bread maker in parallel,
so i would not starve, about the end
of my bread mix collection, some cornbread,
duplicate, and cake mixes left, having practiced
learning some of the basic machine
and environmental stuff on easier mixes,
before going from scratch, my own combinations
of ingredients, learning some about alternatives
to wheat, especially bread flour,
rice, and others, exist and some do OK with,
SourDough book interesting as it got into health
issues that sound similar to me,
she had EU breads and gave up baking/ eating
for a while, but back home sourdough
and not painful reactions,
hoping to find solutions to a very basic
necessity, eating, mostly from donated,
food pantry
ThePracticalitiesOfFoodDistribution2012
not a temporary thing, disabled and not changing
that, just finding alternatives, originally food boredom
my only simple ways of preparing what i get,
and time and experience, exploring the equipment
vector, easier, faster, automated, ways of making
what I'm not getting, modifying to eliminate
pains, stomach and otherwise, on day after,
sometimes week or more, some moldy/
etc, the time constraints for feeding hundred+
per day. per site, some might be a problem,
but over time, see more and more, to me,
risking my health to just eat
so risking financially buying some might
consider luxury gadgets, but came down
in price, and learning more, closed in during
the winter time mostly anyways,
GroundHog day, (earlier spring, luckily)
GroundHogDayAllOverAgain2011
and SuperBowl Sunday,
in the background now, while typing this
drivel a nap after other stuff, did ok on clearances
but risking going overdraft,
last time cost me
hundred (x1-2?) in fees alone,
PuffedShirt2018
order checks, a mere $28 or so,
and part of what pushed it over the limit,
but food and clearance, and supplementing
required, I'm guessing for most people,
pancake mixes yet unexplored,
collecting sample products, hoping
Munged2017
MungedMetaData2017
continues even after my
Legacy2017
But ran it as a saute
and so many failed
and it was hard boiled,
but still alarming
an aborted process,
worried could i scramble
and not waste the 6 eggs
i practiced on,
and how far the base functions
unpressurized modes/ presets
will work for me, or overlapping
with base functions,
a sensor problem making the base
unit unusable, no user serviceable
parts a major disrespect, to me
and many, hacking an older cheaper
one, make some at the
tail end of it's lifecycle,
but to spend $60 to not have it work,
or only $14 level rice cooker
capable, no pressure ,might not even
do that much...
and well, down about it...
Needed to learn to turn off the alarm,
cooking at night/ early am,
and waking others, this at least a way to turn
off speaker, but beeps to start, before turn it off,
doesn't save it's last used setting,
i'm guessing hard reboot, part of power
outage protections
(perhaps surviving a brief outage,
not on UPS, nor anything, losing food,
and maybe not even knowing that power
went out, come back and eat a very
undercooked piece of something
and get sick,...)
and erase all memory,
back to ROM defaults,
and other geeky things...

Seasonal, sales pre SuperBowl,wintertime
and other rush to automate,
and do cooking for the guys/party,
buy for that game, only lasts a few hours,
a device with a warranty for 3 years?
so 3 use times, if it works?
For how much? vs. take out,
hoping the wife/ will excuse our foot ball
food problems, some guests, some much
more internal...

Conclusion
Summary of experience or similar
Learning money, kindergelt, or similar,
given Aldi is one of the German stores,
think Trader Joe's and Basics,
do your own bagging, warehouse,
smaller though, automating and efficiency
bringing prices down, under a dollar
for some cans, and while look like a little in
massive fork lift pallet type amounts,
just getting something, like PriceClub/
SamsClub, something else i actually tried
CostCo, BJs and similar warehouse
group buy big quantities, stocking up,
sort of savings, get it while they have it,
by next visit, maybe a week or two later,
might be gone,
but may have jumped the starting
on this one, will see...
Discussion
A place for feedback on the page presented
What saving risks are you willing to take?
Great bargain if it works,
if it doesn't is it a total loss?
Preventing others from having a good experience
with stuff?
or duty to warn and protect others,
especially with steam, high pressure,
temperature and other risks, many i'm not
even fully aware of, not stupid about it,
but automating it makes some under the hood,
as they say, (they being "common sense"
we find many/most don't even have)...
