I liked the British Bake Off book

seen before, so went to reserve/

hold this one,

and it eventually came in,

and i promptly ignored it,

/BadBabyBaker,

if i can even call myself that...

More on that elsewhere...

Maybe... Time available...

Hoping to get down to a list of recipes

and add what I think of them,

why i would want to try baking it,

and why not,

what ingredients i might have problems with,

like EtOH, certain spices,

sourcing stuff,

basically a lot of substitutions

but hopefully still tastes similar,

but how would i know?

And my available time is short,

at the moment,

not that it isn't

in general...

Moved single section into Chapter names

adding inline some of the interesting recipe names

need page ranges for chapters, etc

to get in the right sections

from what i can read of my own handwriting

What's Missing?

time, experience,

skill, supplies, some baking equipment, etc

full correct words for some recipe names

as handwritten on an index card while

returning the book that had a hold on it...

What Can Be Found?

glossy picture book

of wouldn't this be nice

to have on my plate,

but if i tried making it,

it wouldn't look anything like that...

and that's without the product placement/

staging food porn

What Can Not Be Found?

my baking skills

How To Analyze?

Lenses

Noob

A small section in the back

with basic recipes

and tools/techniques

but a few terms and names to look up too

for us newbies...

AngloPhile

Plenty of Englishisms

for Americans and others

to ponder like:

TrayBake? (baking sheet?)

Pud (short for pudding?)

Savoury (spelling)

etc

Other Cultures

Depending upon whether yours

was colonialized (sp/word Choice?)

may be how you feel about Brits,

etc

but reverse osmosis of flavours

and spices were likely happening

too, look at the American South,

not all white bread,

Creole, Cajun, African influences,

etc

SouthWest Mexican influences,

some melting pot,

some not...

Think Irish / Scottish

rivalries with the Brits,

and they were neighbors...

Assumptions

I generally like desserts and sweets,

found that lots of the ones in the other

British Bake Off book were interesting,

and found also a book series,

and put hold on this book,

then promptly ignored having it,

until due, which has gotten typical,

so will see...

Time Limits

see above for my standard disclaimers

and dog ate my homework type excuses

Conclusion

Summary of experience or similar

Based on the TV show,

which I've only seen a little of,

a long time ago,

but didn't take baking seriously,

then, and not very now,

but getting started book might help

do the trick, and well, money for supplies,

tools, equipment, time, some actual skill

besides eating, etc...

Will see if my complaining,

prejudging/ looking seriously at it,

like a hypothesis to be tested

before cooking and the real test(s)...

I glanced and

book marked with index cards

after getting it

and it sat for a while,

now need to take it back,

wait again, on hold(s), etc...

A picture book that some might try to eat

the pages, basically food porn

good photography, but learning to make

anything looking like those,

would be very difficult, imnsho...

The other British baking book

SweetBreadAndBunsByLindaCollister2019

rates the recipes included there

and categorizes by ease of cooking,

so might match, be a starter/

tutorial type book for me,

but some here might be good to look

at, dream about, etc..

Discussion

A place for feedback on the page presented

What makes a TV Show good?

What about books related to TV Shows?

How about PBS?

Their marketing of buying something extra

to fully get free television?

or a Lure and a Trick?

needed to sustain Public TV?

or haughty type high brow stuff,

see i support the public,

am rich, classy, cultured, etc?

Do you have to be an anglophile to like this stuff?

Spend too much time on WETA-UK?

Working on your American accent

because you have done too much/

been immersed in BritTV?

Bought BritBox?

Know what it is?

Why Not?

Blimey Brits,

Baking Better Buns,

and taking over the world,

Colonialism 2.0?
