ABoyInsideSPOILING

Introduction/Definition/etc

Some quick comments about a DVD movie called

A Boy Inside, including some spoiling things,

so read the beginning to the SPOILS part

if you haven't seen it and don't want to be

"spoiled"...

Er, a quick fact check. TheBoyInside

Body

A DVD movie, probably played elsewhere, but the first

I've heard of it, and now seen it, by the Mother

of a boy with Asperger's Syndrome, at the

end of one school, starting another because of bullying.

SPOILING BELOW:

Not that the top wasn't spoiling, as you might

not have put together the Marianne Kaplan

as the mother, or what the issue with the kid

was until you read the jacket...

Anyway, opens with the boy describing his

family, and evil like sister, who bites him?

And there is rivalry in the movie,

she doesn't want him going to her same

high school, and the parents realize that

all the family attention and energy is going

to the boy, instead of whole family,

and even after trying to deal with the

system, school system, some full time

supports, family meetings, late nights,

arguing, divorces likely, and other issues,

they send him off to foster care for

a respite.  Give him to the system to take care

of, and get a break.  A well needed break,

I'm sure...

Temple Grandin, is in it.  She is interviewed

on camera, some as are other parents and

kids at a conference in Chicago, MAPP?

or similar name, I'm not good at names,

but that wouldn't be a surprise,

no real medication is the answer,

odd diets and whackery, or whatever

your opinion on some "treatments" are,

Einstein and Carl Sagan were probably Aspergers/

Autism Spectrum Disorder, and where would we be

without them? ;-)  No nukes, and no billions and billions

of stars, gazing but can't really get to most of us...

But I digress.  Some social skills were mentioned,

some classroom situations, some prom, and

the bullying is the central theme.

Parents concerns for a few years, preparing the kid

to be independent, working, etc.

And almost all he wants, besides girls,

well, he is a teen, is to see the stadium,

take a train, down town, after flying from

Canada to Chicago, hole up in the hotel room

when a tired mom returns, and doesn't want

to take the hotel shuttle to the train and

then another hour ride, and he melts down,

one of many shown, the appearance of which

most would probably not show, reality shows

the exception, but she's showing the ups and down,

mostly downs, but not entirely down...

Her job it seems is the one kid, she has two,

and appearantly a few skills in film making,

the DVD jacket shows some awards,

and the credits show some people who helped,

and well, what does society and government

do about this syndrome?

It didn't exist, or was not known when I was

growing up.  Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Learning Disabled,

Emotional or Special Ed, Mental Retardation was the category,

and knowing anyone with something similar,

the R word, isn't something we want.

Unless it's Respect, but I'm thinking that's not

part of this equation.

The DVD movie is Closed Captioned and I turned it

on, focusing more on dialog than facial expressions.

Subtitled, no, so getting a transcript from it,

might not be easy.

But doing GeekCode, an ancient version,

it would be a challenge, not one I'm up for,

if ever...

Autcode, a variation of GeekCode might be good

to do.  Do I live at home with my parents?

No. Dad's gone.  I've been homeless.

Do I shower?  Yep, most of the time.

Gross?  Yes, probably, by most standards.

Am I overweight?  A little.

Education?  Finished a bachelors, but on the

19 year plan.  Doing other researchy type stuff,

and not really into reading for class...

BS.  Bull Shit.  Learn the terms.

MS. More Shit. Learn everything there is to know about it.

Ph.D.  Piled Higher and Deeper.  Find out it isn't necessarily so...

And then there is Community College...

Night School.  AA.  Associates.  Got to start somewhere.

I've been.  End of High School.  And again after finishing BS.

Specialize in Substance Abuse, but ABD.  All But Done.

Take the Classes.  Work on internships, more than anyone should

have.   Get teased by the teacher.  Not appropriate.

And he's on the local ads with a microscope...

Anyway, the boy wants to go to computer tech high school,

and got in!  Seems to have found some friends, but they

have the jerseys/ vests on, which makes me think

they are peer counselors, or some thing like safety

guards.  Happily Ever After?  Probably Not,

but transitioning somehow, to somewhere...

Look it up.
