RatsAndOtherParasiticLifeForms
Introduction/Definition/etc
So I've lived in low rent areas,
Points Of Blight, I sometimes
call it, with gang activity, grafitti,
Slumlords, Thugs & Drugs on the corner(s),
but some relatively recent
stuff is getting beyond me...

I've heard of Rats here in the 'Hood,
but recently, have had seen the little
pest...
The Plague (the original one,
not currently referring to AIDS
epidemic, but the carrying
flea bitten Black Death?
or something, I'm not a history
geek to know the full plight...)
They are or can be fast moving,
so I'm still trying to get a photo
of the closest critter,
MetroRail signs so graceously
put them up on posters and
claim to not have them, but
I've personally seen 3 rats
in a caravan along the third
Rail (electrified inside, but they
were not toast at 650 - 750 Volts
on the top cover..,)
In DC, I've seen them at night
waiting for rides, and other times
smooshed along the roads
while biking and sometimes
walking...
Probably any water town has
some Rat Problem, but I'd have
thought, or hoped the Suburbs,
even along the Revitalization Areas
would have been exempt...
Fairfax County started running
Bed Bug programs on cable 16 or similar,
shelters, and Motels along some
areas seem to have them,
one homeless person I'd directed
to low cost accommodations reported
having to go to the hospital to deal
with the bites...
Some Hotels/ Motels have been raided
for prostitution and other issues,
the human parasites like many
"Consumers/Survivors/ExPatients"
are used to with Hospital and
case workers and administrators
who are on a ego/power
trips, don't show up when appointed,
with no explanation and then
attempt "Do What I Say"
slavery or control which is
contrary to Recovery and
most basic human rights,
likely illegal, even in the First
and Fourth World...
I'm wondering what in Rural areas,
people do about mice, and rats,
maybe mousing cats,
I've tried looking for the Mickey Mouse
arch along baseboards, and when I had a house,
living with a group, we had something
and I seem to recall trying to put
balled up aluminum foil to block entrance holes,
exterminators put some poison
down holes (what happens when it Rains/
storms? where does the poison go?
into the watershed? down drains???),
I've started telling people about the rats,
so kids, dogs, and others are not harmed,
but the reaction is about as bad
as giving bad news can be...
Many are not surprised,
they had seen them, but no one
had said anything. I'd heard
they were here or nearby,
but recently seen as I was coming in/out
the front door...
Sleeping when rats are around
is further difficult. Is it really an
Outside Rat, like pet cats and some
hunting dogs that stay outside?
Or while I or others sleep is the
the little pest(s) looking to upgrade
digs and expanding it's family line?
King Rat, stories of huge rats
grown on restaurant and other
refuse, around here kids and
probably adults don't put the
trash in the dumpster,
back in the day, there weren't even
dumpsters, but maybe the county
required upgrading the T parking
spots to something where people
didn't have to be up by 7 am
to dispose of trash (only 9-5 employed
people are up at that hour, people going
to evening support groups plus commuting
time, assumed lazy for sleeping in,
really on a swing shift for self care...),
a pickup truck was
coming by to get the T parking spot refuse,
maybe feeding the feral cats
that were babies and kittens on
my patio seen some winters ago
and likely elsewhere...
[Always worried about their lives,
taking in feral cats & kittens,
I'm not sure how...
I do know some who have taken
in abandoned kittens, but I'm likely
allergic, besides the subsidized pet policies,
recent statistics of normals having pets
I seem to recall being maybe 40-50%?]
Rabies was encountered here in some
Possum or Opossum, I'm not sure,
but rumors of the hairless odd
looking creatures, with "puppies"?
babies in tow, climbing trees,
up rain gutters, and startling people,
raccoon or similar seen,
maybe our expansion into
previously wooded lots
relocates and crowds out
the natural habitats?
And I've seen Fox on the Fairfax Cross
County Trail years ago, and dead on the
highway near here, Fox looks between a
large cat and odd dog, with a bushy
tail, moving quickly, and not a wonder
why Fox Hunts are done in
some communities, for centuries,
millenia, these creatures possibly
coexisted? with humans, and likely
outnumbered us, I'm sure there
are probably more rats and bugs
in this world than humans,
and we Homo Sapiens are in the billions
hundreds of millions in the USA alone...
As you might imagine BenX
encountered human pests,
teen high school bullies, taunting and were
creatively dealt with...
But the other rodents,
Rats here in this Non Fiction
world, may need another approach,
predatory providers, sick people
enjoying hurting or trying to exploit
the vulnerable and disabled, are counter
to what has been worked on for
over 5 years here, and likely
decades with others.
Even some of our prominent
Peers are IMO predatory,
waiting after others have done
prep work, swooping in for the cash/
jobs, titles, respect lacking even among
people claiming to be equals,
the shortage of peer and drop in center
director/ officer and paid positions,
the revenge for decades of
provider control, the likely
response is trying to be like
the Providers, control freaks,
undermining and Queen Bees
belong in prison instead of
trying for professional credentials
like MSW's, positions of power
and an institutionalized
disgrace to any true community...
Professional and ParaProfessional
societies have ethical rules against
such stuff, creating dependency
on their services, demeaning,
belittling and other power and
control issues...
But you already knew this,
just didn't do anything about
it as it was being formed
and escalated...
